Anchorage control plays a key role in the correction of malocclusion. With the advent of orthodontic bone screws, attaining absolute anchorage control has become hassle free. They have the advantages of low cost, simple surgical placement, and ease of removal; therefore, they are convenient in the treatment of various malocclusions. Although the clinical stability of bone screws is exceptionally high, stability of the bone screws is compromised by factors such as microbial contamination and morphological defects. Background: The goal of this in vitro study was to compare three different surfaces: two types of implant surfaces commercially available ([a] smooth/machined and [b] acid-treated surface) versus (c) anodized surface. Discs were manufactured with commercially pure titanium (CP) grade IV, which were subsequently analyzed by scanning microscopy and fibroblastic and osteoblastic cell cultures. Objectives: The goal of this study was to assess the newly formed bone and the remnant biomaterial by comparing four different bone grafts used to treat critical-size defects, associated or not with the non-resorbable membrane.

Materials and methods: Two calvaria critical-size bone defects were created in 50 male Wistar rats. They were divided into blood (G1), autogenous (G2), bioglass (G3), hydroxyapatite (G4), and xenograft (G5) groups, associated or not with e-PTFE. The experimental periods were 15 and 45 days. Sections were prepared for histomorphometric assessment. All data were analyzed by the mixed-effects model with multiple comparisons (significance level, p < .05).

Presentation summary: The speakers focused on signs and symptoms of TMD that may be familiar and many that are commonly overlooked. This insight provides an opportunity to better identify and treat patients suffering from TMD. Various treatment methodologies were discussed with an emphasis on the concept of neuromuscular dentistry. Neuromuscular treatment of TMD involves identifying the mandibular position that corresponds to relaxed muscles of the anterior temporalis, masseters, and sternocleidomastoids. Purpose: Evaluate current hiring practices and employee retention characteristics in orthodontic private practices.

Methods: Orthodontists (n=1000) were surveyed regarding their hiring methods and outcomes. Responses were summarized with descriptive statistics. Chi-square tests were used to compare hiring practices and perceptions. Nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis tests were utilized in analysis of retention thresholds.

Results: Survey response rate was 7.2% (72 responses). When comparing thresholds previous to, and after the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an increase in open clinical positions compared with non-clinical and managerial positions (p=.0008). 68% of orthodontists reported a decrease in qualified applications for clinical positions compared with non-clinical and managerial …
