Analysis Of Slot Height Accuracy And Precision Of Stainless Steel Orthodontic Brackets Manufactured By Metal Injection Molding And Computer Numerical Control Milling Using Stereomicroscopy, Mark D. Angeloni
MUSC Theses and Dissertations
Objective: It is the objective of this study to determine the dimensional accuracy and precision that is achievable by two manufacturing methods of stainless steel orthodontic brackets, CNC milling and metal-injection molding. To determine this, we propose the following specific aims: 1) to determine the actual dimensions of the slots in both milled and MIMed orthodontic bracket and standard deviations. 2) Using mathematical models to determine if the dimensional difference, if one exists, between milled and MIMed brackets will result in a difference in third order tooth movement (torque) realization (effective torque vs nominal torque). The actual bracket slot dimensions …
New High Intensity Light-Emitting Diode (Led) Curing Lights: An In Vitro Evaluation Of Increased Power Density At Reduced Curing Times, Jeff Mirrielees
New High Intensity Light-Emitting Diode (Led) Curing Lights: An In Vitro Evaluation Of Increased Power Density At Reduced Curing Times, Jeff Mirrielees
MUSC Theses and Dissertations
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate two new light-emitting diode (LED) curing lights with increased power densities at reduced curing times. Methods: Ninety extracted bovine incisors were examined in vitro. The incisors were divided into six test groups and metallic adhesive pre-coated brackets were bonded using either the Valo Otho (Opal Orthodontics, Ultradent) @ 3200 mW/ cm 2 or the Ortholux Luminous {3M Unitek)@ 1600 mW/ cm 2 at curing intervals of 3-, 6-, or 12-seconds. The samples were stored for 24 hours in 37 degree Celsius water and debonded. Brackets were tested using an MTS Mini-Bionix …
Effect Of Bracket Width On The First-Order Toe-In Angle Of The Maxillary First Molar, Erin N. Brophey
Effect Of Bracket Width On The First-Order Toe-In Angle Of The Maxillary First Molar, Erin N. Brophey
MUSC Theses and Dissertations
Introduction: The first-order toe-in angle of the maxillary first molar is an important aspect of orthodontics and occlusion. Many variables contribute to the amount of distal offset expressed such as bracket slot dimensions, the amount of toe in angle built into the prescription of the bracket, bracket placement, bracket deformation, and tooth morphology. The purpose of this study is to mathematically predict the degree of first-order toe in angle loss with various archwire dimensions in various molar tube width preprogrammed brackets. Methods: Molar brackets from 3M Unitek, American Orthodontics™ (AO), Great American Orthodontics™ (GAC), Ormco™, Opal™, Rocky Mountain Orthodontics™ (RMO) …
Calpain 10: Mitochondrial Localization, Function, And Substrates, David Darrell Arrington
Calpain 10: Mitochondrial Localization, Function, And Substrates, David Darrell Arrington
MUSC Theses and Dissertations
The calpain family of cysteine proteases has undergone intense study since its discovery in 1976. Although numerous functions and proteolytic substrates have been linked to this 14-member family, little is known about the five atypical calpain isoforms. Over the past 25 years, investigators have identified ‘calpain-like’ activities in mitochondrial fractions isolated from various tissues. The studies undertaken in this dissertation were designed to positively identify the mitochondrial calpain present in renal cortical mitochondria (RCM) and to elucidate its function and proteolytic targets under both basal and CA2- -challenged conditions. We identified the RCM calpain as calpain 10 by both immunoblot …
