Objective: This research compared the effectiveness of the Active Skeletonized Sutural Distractor (ASSD) and the face mask (FM) in treating adolescent Class III malocclusion and assessed the stability of the mini screw utilized in the ASSD appliance. Anterior openbite may be due to skeletal, dental, habitual, or functional problems. Apical external root resorption (AERR) is considered as one of the risks associated with orthodontic treatment. Some clinical factors have been shown to correlate with orthodontic treatment, whereas the determinants for predicting AERR consistently were not found. Adult patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion may have several available treatment options: (1) a combination of orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery. (2) camouflaged orthodontic treatment with various extraction selections. In this case report, we use miniscrew anchorage to retract mandibular incisors and control labial tipping of maxillary incisors. Not only improving dental occlusion without extraction of teeth (except for wisdom teeth) but also achieving a balanced profile in only 14 months of treatment time.

Anterior crossbite is a common clinical problem that requires early diagnosis and proper treatment. Here we report on a pair of siblings with anterior crossbite. They have a similar dental and facial profile at the start of treatment, but developed different types of dental facial patterns on follow-up. Our report highlights that it is difficult to precisely predict the facial growth simply based on patient’s family history and the data of cephalometric analysis. Young patients with growth potential should be monitored continuously after orthodontic treatment.
