Workers at large plantation companies have various activities. These activities include caring for plants, regularly applying fertilizers according to schedule, and crop harvesting activities. The density of worker activities must be balanced with efficient and fair work scheduling. A good schedule will minimize worker dissatisfaction while also maintaining their physical health. This study aims to optimize workers' schedules using a genetic algorithm. An efficient chromosome representation is designed to produce a good schedule in a reasonable amount of time. The mutation method is used in combination with reciprocal mutation and exchange mutation, while the type of crossover used is one …

A Review Of Accessing Big Data With Significant Ontologies, Jumah Y.J Sleeman, Jehad A.H Hammad Dec 2020

A Review Of Accessing Big Data With Significant Ontologies, Jumah Y.J Sleeman, Jehad A.H Hammad

Knowledge Engineering and Data Science

Ontology Based Data Access (OBDA) is a recently proposed approach which is able to provide a conceptual view on relational data sources. It addresses the problem of the direct access to big data through providing end-users with an ontology that goes between users and sources in which the ontology is connected to the data via mappings. We introduced the languages used to represent the ontologies and the mapping assertions technique that derived the query answering from sources. Query answering is divided into two steps: (i) Ontology rewriting, in which the query is rewritten with respect to the ontology into new …

Convolutional Neural Network On Tanned And Synthetic Leather Textures, Faadihilah Ahnaf Faiz, Ahmad Azhari

Knowledge Engineering and Data Science

Tanned leather is an output from complex processes called tanning. Leather tanning is an important step that used to protect the fiber or protein structure of animal’s skin. Another reason of tanning process is to prevent the animal’s skin from any defect or rot. After the tanning is complete, the leather can be applied to produce a wide variety of leather products. Thus, the leather prices usually more expensive because it takes longer time in process. Another way to get cheaper price is make non-animal leather that usually known as synthetic or imitation leather. The purpose of this paper is …

An Exploratory Study Of Pulse Width And Delta Sigma Modulators, Logan B. Penrod Dec 2020

An Exploratory Study Of Pulse Width And Delta Sigma Modulators, Logan B. Penrod

Master's Theses

This paper explores the noise shaping and noise producing qualities of Delta-Sigma Modulators (DSM) and Pulse-Width Modulators (PWM). DSM has long been dominant in the Delta Sigma Analog-to-Digital Converter (DSADC) as a noise-shaped quantizer and time discretizer, while PWM, with a similar self oscillating structure, has seen use in Class D Power Amplifiers, performing a similar function. It has been shown that the PWM in Class D Amplifiers outperforms the DSM [1], but could this advantage be used in DSADC use-cases? LTSpice simulation and printed circuit board implementation and test are used to present data on four variations of these …

Simulation Of An Sp8t 18 Ghz Rf Switch Using Smt Pin Diodes, Andre De Souza Vigano

Master's Theses

Radio frequency (RF) and microwave switches are widely used in several different applications including radar, measurement systems, telecommunications, and other areas. An RF switch can control a radar’s transmit vs. receive mode, select the operating band, or direct an RF signal to different paths. In this study, a single pole eight throw (SP8T) switch using only Surface Mount (SMT) components is designed and simulated in Keysight’s Advanced Design System (ADS). Single pole eight throw is defined as one input and eight possible outputs. A star network configuration with series-shunt PIN diode switches is used to create the 8-way RF switch. …

Designing And Evaluating Of Mimo Systems For Millimeter-Wave Communications, Mojtaba Ahmadi Almasi Dec 2020

Designing And Evaluating Of Mimo Systems For Millimeter-Wave Communications, Mojtaba Ahmadi Almasi

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

The fifth generation (5G) of wireless communications will integrate all existing technologies while bringing its own to the system. Amongst these technologies, millimeter-wave (mmWave) is emerging as a promising solution for 5G systems. However, to fully harness the potential of mmWave communications, obstacles such as severe path loss, channel sparsity, and hardware complexity should be overcome. The existing cost-effective systems can considerably reduce the hardware complexity and partially severe path loss, while channel sparsity still remains a main problem. Other factors such as transmission reliability and coverage area should be considered in 5G mmWave communications. Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is …

Power-Weighted Lpc Formant Estimation, Ruairí De Fréin Nov 2020

Power-Weighted Lpc Formant Estimation, Ruairí De Fréin

Conference papers

A power-weighted formant frequency estimation procedure based on Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) is presented. It works by pre-emphasizing the dominant spectral components of an input signal, which allows a subsequent estimation step to extract formant frequencies with greater accuracy. The accuracy of traditional LPC formant estimation is improved by this new power-weighted formant estimator for different classes of synthetic signals and for speech. Power-weighted LPC significantly and reliably outperforms LPC and variants of LPC at the task of formant estimation using the VTR formants dataset, a database consisting of the Vocal Tract Resonance (VTR) frequency trajectories obtained by human experts …

Predicting Quality Of Delivery Metrics For Adaptive Video Codec Sessions, Obinna Izima, Ruairí De Fréin, Mark Davis

Conference papers

Predicting video quality will continue to be an active area of research given the dominance of video traffic for years to come. Network service practitioners that are poised to handle the strain on the existing limited bandwidth constraints are better placed to be SLA-compliant. The dynamic and time-varying nature of cloud-hosted services require improved techniques to realize accurate models of the systems. To address this challenge: (1) we propose Codec-aware Network Adaptation Agent (cNAA), an online light-weight data learning engine that achieves accurate and correct predictions of quality of delivery (QoD) metrics, namely jitter for video services. cNAA achieves this …

Publications

The Internet of Things (IoT) provides applications and services that would otherwise not be possible. However, the open nature of IoT makes it vulnerable to cybersecurity threats. Especially, identity spoofing attacks, where an adversary passively listens to the existing radio communications and then mimic the identity of legitimate devices to conduct malicious activities. Existing solutions employ cryptographic signatures to verify the trustworthiness of received information. In prevalent IoT, secret keys for cryptography can potentially be disclosed and disable the verification mechanism. Noncryptographic device verification is needed to ensure trustworthy IoT. In this article, we propose an enhanced deep learning framework …

Model-Based And Data-Driven Situational Awareness For Distribution System Monitoring And Control, Ying Zhang

Electrical Engineering Theses and Dissertations

Electric power systems are undergoing a dramatic change. The penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs) such as wind turbine generators and photovoltaic panels is turning a traditional power system into the active distribution network. Power system situational awareness, which provides critical information for system monitoring and control, is being challenged by multiple sources of uncertainties such as random meter errors, stochastic power output of DERs, and imprecise network parameters. On the other hand, cyber-physical power system operation is vulnerable to cyberattacks against effective state estimation, such as false data injection attacks (FDIAs). To construct next-generation smart grids, this dissertation develops …

The spectral method is typically applied as a simple and efficient method to solve the parabolic wave equation in phase screen scintillation models. The critical factors that can greatly affect the spectral method accuracy is the uniformity and smoothness of the input function. This paper observes these effects on the accuracy of the finite difference and the spectral methods applied to a wideband SATCOM signal propagation model simulated in the ultra-high frequency (UHF) band. The finite difference method uses local pointwise approximations to calculate a derivative. The spectral method uses global trigonometric interpolants that achieve remarkable accuracy for continuously differentiable …
