Explainable Stock Price Prediction Using Technical Indicators With Short Thai Textual Information, Kittisak Prachyachuwong
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
A stock trend prediction has been in the spotlight from the past to the present. Fortunately, there is an enormous amount of information available nowadays. There were prior attempts that have tried to forecast the trend using textual information; however, it can be further improved since they relied on fixed word embedding, and it depends on the sentiment of the whole market. In this paper, we propose a deep learning model to predict the Thailand Futures Exchange (TFEX) with the ability to analyze both numerical and textual information. We have used Thai economic news headlines from various online sources. To …

Redesigning Weakly Supervised Localization Architectures For Medical Images, Konpat Preechakul
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Point localization is a task that aims to identify the location but not the extent of an object of interest in an input image. A success localization is when a model predicts a point which is within the boundary of an object of interest. This task has been successfully learnt using only image-level annotation i.e. image classification. This setting is known as weakly-supervised point localization. Weakly-supervised point localization is particularly useful in medical imaging task where not only the decision of a model is required by also the explanation. The better the explanation the more useful the model is. Usually …

Learning Personally Identifiable Information Transmission In Android Applications By Using Data From Fast Static Code Analysis, Nattanon Wongwiwatchai
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The ease of use of mobile devices has resulted in a significant increase in the everyday use of mobile applications as well as the amount of personal information stored on devices. Users are becoming more aware of applications' access to their personal information, as well as the risk that these applications may unwittingly transmit Personally Identifiable Information (PII) to third-party servers. There is no simple way to determine whether or not an application transmits PII. If this information could be made available to users before installing new applications, they could weigh the pros and cons of having the risk of …

Accurate Surface Ultraviolet Radiation Forecasting For Clinical Applications With Deep Neural Network, Raksit Raksasat
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Exposure to appropriate doses of UV radiation provides enormously health and medical treatment benefits including psoriasis. Typical hospital-based phototherapy cabinets contain a bunch of artificial lamps, either broad-band (main emission spectrum 280-360 nm, maximum 320 nm), or narrow-band UV B irradiation (main emission spectrum 310-315nm, maximum 311nm). For patients who cannot access phototherapy centers, sun-bathing, or heliotherapy, can be a safe and effective treatment alternative. However, as sunlight contains the full range of UV radiation (290-400 nm), careful sun-bathing supervised by photodermatologist based on accurate UV radiation forecast is vital to minimize potential adverse effects. Here, using 10-year UV radiation …

Consuming video content poses significant challenges for many screen magnifier users, which is the “go to” assistive technology for people with low vision. While screen magnifier software could be used to achieve a zoom factor that would make the content of the video visible to low-vision users, it is oftentimes a major challenge for these users to navigate through videos. Towards making videos more accessible for low-vision users, we have developed the SViM video magnifier system [6]. Specifically, SViM consists of three different magnifier interfaces with easy-to-use means of interactions. All three interfaces are driven by visual saliency as a …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
This is an empirical research investigating the impact of business analytics (BA) and business intelligence (BI) use, IT infrastructure flexibility, and their interactions on organizational agility. Synthesizing the systems theory and awareness-motivation-capability framework, the authors propose that BA-Use, IT infrastructure flexibility, and their interactions significantly influence organizational agility. The results show the significant association of BA use and IT infrastructure flexibility with organizational agility. The results also suggest that BA use may demand corporations to build a more flexible IT infrastructure. However, the data does not reveal the proposed interaction between the two drivers of organizational agility.

What we discover and see online, and consequently our opinions and decisions, are becoming increasingly affected by automated machine learned predictions. Similarly, the predictive accuracy of learning machines heavily depends on the feedback data that we provide them. This mutual influence can lead to closed-loop interactions that may cause unknown biases which can be exacerbated after several iterations of machine learning predictions and user feedback. Machine-caused biases risk leading to undesirable social effects ranging from polarization to unfairness and filter bubbles. In this paper, we study the bias inherent in widely used recommendation strategies such as matrix factorization. Then we …

Sorting By Strip Moves And Strip Swaps, Chandrika Pandurang Rao
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Genome rearrangement problems in computational biology [19, 29, 27] and zoning algorithms in optical character recognition [14, 4] have been modeled as combinatorial optimization problems related to the familiar problem of sorting, namely transforming arbitrary permutations to the identity permutation. The term permutation is used for an arbitrary arrangement of the integers 1, 2,···, n, and the term identity permutation for the arrangement of 1, 2,···, n in increasing order. When a permutation is viewed as the string of integers from 1 through n, any substring in it that is also a substring in the identity permutation will …

Brexit Election: Forecasting A Conservative Party Victory Through The Pound Using Arima And Facebook's Prophet, James Usher, Pierpaolo Dondio
Conference papers
On the 30th October, 2019, the markets watched as British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, took a massive political gamble to call a general election to break the Withdrawal Agreement stalemate in the House of Commons to “Get BREXIT Done”. The pound had been politically sensitive owing to BREXIT uncertainty. With the polls indicating a Conservative win on 4thDecember, 2019, the margin of victory could be observed through increases in the pound. The outcome of a Conservative party victory would benefit the pound by removing the current market turbulence. We look to provide a short-term forecast of the pound. Our approach …

Android systems have been successfully developed to meet the demands of users. The following four methods are used in Android systems for memory management: backing swap, CompCache, traditional Linux swap, and low memory killer. These memory management methods are fully functioning.
However, Android phones cannot swap memory into solid-state drives, thus slowing the processor and reducing storage lifetime. In addition, the compression and decompression processes consume additional energy and latency. Therefore, the CompCache requires an extension. An extended Android CompCache using a graphics processing unit to compress and decompress memory pages on demand and reduce the latency is introduced in …
Dynamic Dependency Collapsing, Görkem Aşılıoğlu
Dynamic Dependency Collapsing, Görkem Aşılıoğlu
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
In this dissertation, we explore the concept of dynamic dependency collapsing. Performance increases in computer architecture are always introduced by exploiting additional parallelism when the clock speed is fixed. We show that further improvements are possible even when the available parallelism in programs are exhausted. This performance improvement is possible due to executing instructions in parallel that would ordinarily have been serialized. We call this concept dependency collapsing. We explore existing techniques that exploit parallelism and show which of them fall under the umbrella of dependency collapsing. We then introduce two dependency collapsing techniques of our own. The first technique …
Demand-Driven Execution Using Future Gated Single Assignment Form, Omkar Javeri
Demand-Driven Execution Using Future Gated Single Assignment Form, Omkar Javeri
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
This dissertation discusses a novel, previously unexplored execution model called Demand-Driven Execution (DDE), which executes programs starting from the outputs of the program, progressing towards the inputs of the program. This approach is significantly different from prior demand-driven reduction machines as it can execute a program written in an imperative language using the demand-driven paradigm while extracting both instruction and data level parallelism. The execution model relies on an executable Single Assignment Form which serves both as the internal representation of the compiler as well as the Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) of the machine. This work develops the instruction set …

Energy Efficiency In Cmos Power Amplifier Designs For Ultralow Power Mobile Wireless Communication Systems, Selvakumar Mariappan, Jagadheswaran Rajendran, Norlaili Mohd Noh, Harikrishnan Ramiah, Asrulnizam Abd Manaf
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Wireless communication standards keep evolving so that the requirement for high data rate operation can be fulfilled. This leads to the efforts in designing high linearity and low power consumption radio frequency power amplifier (RFPA) to support high data rate signal transmission and preserving battery life. The percentage of the DC power of the transceiver utilized by the power amplifier (PA) depends on the efficiency of the PA, user data rate, propagation conditions, signal modulations, and communication protocols. For example, the PA of a WLAN transceiver consumes 49 % of the overall efficiency from the transmitter. Hence, operating the PA …

A Review On Embedded Field Programmable Gate Array Architectures And Configuration Tools, Khouloud Bouaziz, Abdulfattah M. Obeid, Sonda Chtourou, Mohamed Abid
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Nowadays, systems-on-chip have reached a level where nonrecurring engineering costs have become a great challenge due to the increase of design complexity and postfabrication errors. Embedded field programmable gate arrays (eFPGAs) represent a viable alternative to overcome these issues since they provide postmanufacturing flexibility that can reduce the number of chip redesigns and amortize chip fabrication cost. In this paper, we present an overview on eFPGAs and their architectures, computer aided design (CAD) tools, and design challenges. An eFPGA must be well-designed and accompanied by an optimized CAD tool suite to respond to target application's requirements in terms of power …

Design Of A High Performance Narrowband Low Noise Amplifier Using An On-Chip Orthogonal Series Stacked Differential Fractal Inductor For 5g Applications, Sunil Kumar Tumma, Bheemarao Nistala
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Inductors play a crucial role in the design of radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) and they typically consume a considerably large area and have a low-quality factor at high frequencies. The employment of fractal structure in on-chip inductors helps in improving the quality factor and also reduces the overall area besides improving the inductance value. In this paper, an orthogonal series stacked differential fractal inductor is proposed and the same is used to design a low noise amplifier (LNA) for 5G band (27--30 GHz) applications. The proposed inductor is fabricated on a multilayer printed circuit board and the measurement results …
A Novel Semisupervised Classification Method Via Membership And Polyhedral Conic Functions, Nur Uylaş Sati
A Novel Semisupervised Classification Method Via Membership And Polyhedral Conic Functions, Nur Uylaş Sati
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In real-world problems, finding sufficient labeled data for defining classification rules is very difficult. This paper suggests a new semisupervised multiclass classification method. In the initialization, new membership functions are defined by utilizing the labeled data?Äôs medoids and means. Then the unlabeled points are labeled with the class of the highest membership value. In the supervised learning phase, separation via the polyhedral conic functions (PCFs) approach is improved by using defined membership values in the linear programming problem. The suggested algorithm is tested on real-world datasets and compared with the state-of-the-art semisupervised methods. The results obtained indicate that the suggested …
Retinal Vessel Segmentation Using Modified Symmetrical Local Threshold, Umar Özgünalp
Retinal Vessel Segmentation Using Modified Symmetrical Local Threshold, Umar Özgünalp
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Retinal vessel segmentation is important for the identification of many diseases including glaucoma, hypertensive retinopathy, diabetes, and hypertension. Moreover, retinal vessel diameter is associated with cardiovascular mortality. Accurate detection of blood vessels improves the detection of exudates in color fundus images, as well as detection of the retinal nerve, optic disc, or fovea. A retinal vessel is a darker stripe on a lighter background. Thus, the objective is very similar to the lane detection task for intelligent vehicles. A lane on a road is a light stripe on a darker background (i.e. asphalt). For lane detection, the symmetrical local threshold …
