AI chatbots have made vast strides in technology improvement in recent years and are already operational in many industries. Advanced Natural Language Processing techniques, based on deep networks, efficiently process user requests to carry out their functions. As chatbots gain traction, their applicability in healthcare is an attractive proposition due to the reduced economic and people costs of an overburdened system. However, healthcare bots require safe and medically accurate information capture, which deep networks aren’t yet capable of due to user text and speech variations. Knowledge in symbolic structures is more suited for accurate reasoning but cannot handle natural language …

Comparison Of Risc-V And Transport Triggered Architectures For A Postquantumcryptography Application, Lati̇f Akçay, Siddika Berna Örs Yalçin
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Cryptography is one of the basic phenomena of security systems. However, some of the widely used publickey cryptography algorithms can be broken by using quantum computers. Therefore, many postquantum cryptography algorithms are proposed in recent years to handle this issue. NTRU (Nth degree truncated polynomial ring units) is one of the most important of these quantum-safe algorithms. Besides the importance of cryptography algorithms, the architecture where they are implemented is also essential. In this study, we developed an NTRU public key cryptosystem application and designed several processors to compare them in many aspects. We address two different architectures in this …

Human Activity Recognition Based On Wearable Flex Sensor And Pulse Sensor, Xiaozhu Jin
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In order to fulfill the needs of everyday monitoring for healthcare and emergency advice, many HAR systems have been designed [1]. Based on the healthcare purpose, these systems can be implanted into an astronaut’s spacesuit to provide necessary life movement monitoring and healthcare suggestions. Most of these systems use acceleration data-based data record as human activity representation [2,3]. But this data attribute approach has a limitation that makes it impossible to be used as an activity monitoring system for astronavigation. Because an accelerometer senses acceleration by distinguishing acceleration data based on the earth’s gravity offset [4], the accelerometer cannot read …

Disaster Analysis Using Satellite Image Data With Knowledge Transfer And Semi-Supervised Learning Techniques, Palavi Jain
Reports
With the increase in frequency of disasters and crisis situations like floods, earthquake and hurricanes, the requirement to handle the situation efficiently through disaster response and humanitarian relief has increased. Disasters are mostly unpredictable in nature with respect to their impact on people and property. Moreover, the dynamic and varied nature of disasters makes it difficult to predict their impact accurately for advanced preparation of responses [104]. It is also notable that the economical loss due to natural disasters has increased in recent years, and it, along with the pure humanitarian need, is one of the reasons to research innovative …

This paper considers the problem of coordinating multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in a circular formation around a moving target. The main contribution is allowing for versatile formation patterns on the basis of the following components. Firstly, new uniform spacing control laws are proposed that spread the agents not necessarily over a full circle, but over a circular arc. Uniform spacing formation controllers are proposed, regulating either the separation distances or the separation angles between agents. Secondly, the use of virtual agents is proposed to allow for different radii in agents’ orbits. Thirdly, a hierarchical combination of formation patterns is …

This paper investigates a multiple sensor fusion based drift compensation technique for a mecanum wheeledmobile robot platform. The mobile robot is equipped with high-precision encoders integrated to the wheels and fouraccelerometers placed on its chassis. The proposed algorithm combines the information from the encoders and theacceleration sensors to estimate the total drift in the acceleration dimension. The inner loop controller is designedutilizing a disturbance-observer-based acceleration control structure which is blind against the slipping motion of thewheels. The estimated drift acceleration from the sensor fusion is then mapped back to the joint space of the robot andused as additional compensation over …

On Performance Analysis Of Multioperator Ran Sharing For Mobile Networkoperators, Yekta Türk, Engi̇n Zeydan
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Enhancing the coverage and eliminating the poor performance is key to balance end-user experience andfuture network investments for mobile network operators (MNOs). Although vast amounts of infrastructure investmentsare provided by MNOs, there are still coverage and capacity planning problems at remote locations. This is because,in most cases, the population density and return-of-investments are low in those areas. In this paper, radio accessnetwork (RAN) sharing paradigm is utilized on experimental sites in Turkey to accommodate user equipment of multiplenetwork operators under the same cell sites. We first investigate characteristics, benefits, and limitations of two differentRAN sharing deployment scenarios. Then, a city-wide …

Dynamic Issue Queue Capping For Simultaneous Multithreaded Processors, Merve Güney, Büşra Kuru, Sercan Sari, İsa Ahmet Güney, Gürhan Küçük
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
A simultaneous multithreaded (SMT) processor mixes multiple instruction streams in its superscalar out-of-order execution core for higher throughput. To achieve this, a superscalar processor is modified in such a way that someof its resources are duplicated and the rest is shared among multiple threads. The issue queue (IQ), which holds allwaiting instructions until they become ready and scheduled for execution, is among these shared resources. A baselineunmanaged IQ can give an unexpectedly low performance since a hungry thread can tie up most of the IQ entries. This type of scenario is also worse in terms of the fairness metric since some …

Pfecc: A Precise Feedback-Based Explicit Congestion Control Algorithm In Nameddata Networking, Hui Li
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Named data networking (NDN), as a future Internet architecture that is a promising alternative to TCP/IPnetworks, has the new features of connectionless, in-network cache, and hop-by-hop forwarding, which makes thecongestion control algorithms of traditional TCP/IP networks unable to be directly applied to NDN. In addition, sincethe optimal size of the sending window cannot be determined, the existing window-based congestion control algorithmsgenerally use the AIMD-like window adjustment algorithm, which cannot achieve the optimal throughput. In thispaper, we propose a precise feedback-based, multipath-aware congestion control algorithm PFECC, which is inspiredby Accel-Brake Control algorithm. PFECC considers the influence of Interest flows, uses a …

Determining And Evaluating New Store Locations Using Remote Sensing Andmachine Learning, Berkan Höke, Zeynep Zerri̇n Turgay, Cem Ünsalan, Hande Küçükaydin
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Decision making for store locations is crucial for retail companies as the profit depends on the location. The key point for correct store location is profit approximation, which is highly dependent on population of the corresponding region, and hence, the volume of the residential area. Thus, estimating building volumes provides insight about the revenue if a new store is about to be opened there. Remote sensing through stereo/tri-stereo satellite images provides wide area coverage as well as adequate resolution for three dimensional reconstruction for volume estimation. We reconstruct 3D map of corresponding region with the help of semiglobal matching and …
Determining Overfitting And Underfitting In Generative Adversarial Networksusing Fréchet Distance, Enes Eken
Determining Overfitting And Underfitting In Generative Adversarial Networksusing Fréchet Distance, Enes Eken
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Generative adversarial networks (GANs) can be used in a wide range of applications where drawing samples from a data probability distribution without explicitly representing it is essential. Unlike the deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) trained for mapping an input to one of the multiple outputs, monitoring the overfitting and underfitting in GANs is not trivial since they are not classifying but generating a data. While training set and validation set accuracy give a direct sense of success in terms of overfitting and underfitting for CNNs during the training process, evaluating the GANs mainly depends on the visual inspection of the …
Analysis Of Optical Gyroscopes With Vertically Stacked Ring Resonators, Dooyoung Hah
Analysis Of Optical Gyroscopes With Vertically Stacked Ring Resonators, Dooyoung Hah
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Without any moving part, optical gyroscopes exhibit superior reliability and accuracy in comparison to mechanical sensors. Microring-resonator-based optical gyroscopes emerged as alternatives for bulky conventional Sagnac interferometer sensors, especially attractive for applications with limited footprints. Previously, it has been reported that planar incorporation of multiple resonators does not bring about improvement in sensitivity for a given area because the increase in Sagnac phase accumulation does not outrun the increase of area. Therefore, it was naturally suggested to consider vertical stacking of ring resonators because then, the resonators can share the same footprint. In this work, sensitivity performances of such configurations …

Joint Optimization Of Target Wake Time Mechanism And Scheduling For Ieee802.11ax, Mehmet Karaca
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
IEEE 802.11ax as the newest wireless local area networks (WLANs) standard brings enormous improvements in network throughput, coverage and energy efficiency in densely populated areas. Unlike previous IEEE 802.11 WLAN standards where power saving mechanisms have a limited capability and flexibility, 802.11ax comes with a different mechanism called target wake time (TWT) where stations (STAs) wake up only after each TWT interval and different STAs can wake up at different time instance depending on their application requirements. As an example, for a periodic data arrival occurring in IoT applications, STA can wake up by following the data period and go …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Optimal coordination of directional over-current relays (DOCRs) is a crucial task in ensuring the security and reliability of power system network. In this paper, a hybridization of an improved particle swarm optimization and linear programming (IPSO-LP) is proposed to solve DOCRs coordination problem. The considered decision variables in the optimization are plug setting current, time multiplier setting, type of relay, and type of curve. By considering these parameters in the optimization, the best relay operating time can be determined. Furthermore, the proposed technique also considered the continuous values of pick-up current setting (PSC) and time setting multiplier (TMS). Test on …

Zero-shot learning (ZSL) is a recent promising learning approach that is similar to human vision systems. ZSL essentially allows machines to categorize objects without requiring labeled training data. In principle, ZSL proposes a novel recognition model by specifying merely the attributes of the category. Recently, several sophisticated approaches have been introduced to address the challenges regarding this problem. Embarrassingly simple approach to zeroshot learning (ESZSL) is one of the critical of those approaches that basically proposes a simple but efficient linear code solution. However, the performance of the ESZSL model mainly depends on parameter selection. Metaheuristic algorithms are considered as …

Novel Fast Terminal Sliding Mode Controller With Current Constraint Forpermanent-Magnet Synchronous Motor, Yao Fang, Huifang Kong, Daoyuan Ding
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Under the noncascade structure, the balance between q-axis current constraint and dynamic performance in permanent-magnet synchronous motor system has become a critical problem. On the one hand, large transient current is required to provide high torque to achieve fast dynamic performance. On the other hand, current constraint becomes a state constraint problem, instead of governing q-axis reference current in the cascade structure directly. Aiming at this issue, a novel fast terminal sliding mode control (FTSMC)-based controller with current constraint is developed in this paper. The novelty of this scheme is related to the proposed penalty function based on interior point …

In this paper, a novel hybrid Taguchi-vortex search algorithm (HTVS) is proposed for solving global optimization problems. Taguchi orthogonal approximation and vortex search algorithm (VS) are hybridized in presenting method. In HTVS, orthogonal arrays in the Taguchi method are trained and obtained better solutions are used to find global optima in VS. Thus, HTVS has better relation between exploration and exploitation, and it exhibits more powerful approximation to find global optimum value. Proposed HTVS algorithm is applied to sixteen well-known benchmark optimization test functions with different dimensions. The results are compared with the Taguchi orthogonal array approximation (TOAA), vortex search …

Compressed sensing is widely used to compress electrocardiogram (ECG) signals, but the major challenges of the compressed sensing algorithms are their highly complex signal reconstruction processes. In this paper, a reconfigurable high-speed and low-power field-programmable gate array (FPGA) implementation of the least support denoising-orthogonal matching pursuit (LSD-OMP) algorithm for the real-time reconstruction of the ECG signals is presented. The contribution of this study is two-fold: Firstly, LSD-OMP can pick more than one element at each iteration and reconstruct the sparse signal using less number of iterations as compared to the standard OMP algorithms. Latency of the proposed design is therefore …
