Detecting malicious peers is a challenging task in peer-to-peer networks due to their decentralized structure and lack of central authority. Trust models can help identify malicious peers by maintaining information about peer relations and interactions. Keeping information about trust relations helps to reduce risks when providing or using services. This paper introduces two consistency concepts in trust management. Feedback consistency is used to evaluate how consistent feedback is with respect to past feedbacks. On the other side, peer consistency measures consistency of a peer's past feedbacks. Hydrogen gas sensors, based on palladium membranes, have considerable applications in areas such as industry, aerospace, and green energy monitoring. In this paper, we propose a surface plasmon resonance nanosensor, in which the main metal sensor is taken to be gold with a thin nanolayer of palladium membrane. The reason we chose palladium is its exceptional property of having high permittivity to hydrogen penetration. Many methods are introduced to accomplish determining the position of emitters with respect to known-position receivers in indoor localizations. Among them, the direct position determination (DPD) approach advocates using the received signals by all the base stations together in order to estimate the locations in a single step. The aim of this paper is to develop a brain-computer interface (BCI) system that can control a robotic arm using EEG signals generated by facial expressions. The EEG signals are acquired using a neurosignal acquisition headset. The robotic arm consists of a 3-D printed prosthetic hand that is attached to a forearm and elbow made of craft wood. Next-generation sequencing generates large numbers of short reads from DNA. This makes it difficult to process and store. Therefore, efficient sequence alignment and mapping techniques are needed in bioinformatics. Alignment and mapping are the basic steps involved in genetic data analysis. The Smith-Waterman (SW) algorithm, a well-known dynamic programming algorithm, is often used for this purpose. This paper presents a novel classification approach for surface electromyogram (sEMG) signals. The proposed classification approach involves two steps: (1) feature extraction from an sEMG, in which a 7-dimensional feature vector is extracted from 27 types of features of the sEMG by linear discriminant analysis (LDA), and (2) a novel classifier, DAGSVMerr, based on a directed acyclic graph (DAG) and support vector machine (SVM), in which a separability measure function based on erroneous recognition rates (ERRs) is defined to determine the initial operation list. In this paper, a new speed planning method is developed for semiautonomous systems by improving our previous fuzzy logic-based approach. In this proposed method, an extended risk factor is calculated on top of the classical risk factor, using environmental factors and the user's speed reference. We obtain safer speed values in critical scenarios with this new extended risk factor definition. Another improvement comes from the design of the semiautonomous architecture. This article presents a novel method for estimating 19 parameters of RGB and depth camera calibration simultaneously. The proposed algorithm is based on applying metaheuristic methods for deep optimization and estimating all parameters of intrinsic, extrinsic, and lens distortions of cameras. This paper compares four metaheuristic algorithms, i.e. a genetic algorithm, particle swarm optimization, the colonial competitive algorithm, and the shuffled frog leaping algorithm, with a numerical algorithm called singular value decomposition. Baseline wander (BW) is a common low frequency artifact in electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. The prime cause from which BW arises is the patient's breathing and movement. To facilitate reliable visual interpretation of the ECG and to discern particular patterns in the ECG signal, BW needs to be removed. In this paper, a novel BW removal method is presented. Accurate placement of pilot tones has been a crucial task in multicarrier transmission technologies since there is a strong relation between pilot positions and channel estimation performance. Therefore, the firefly algorithm (FA) is proposed for achieving the optimal pilot distribution by optimizing the pilot positions in order to minimize the estimation errors of the least squares algorithm employed in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-interleave division multiple access (OFDM-IDMA) systems. According to the simulation results, our proposed FA-based pilot optimizer provides a great performance increase in OFDM-IDMA systems by obtaining the most appropriate pilot distribution pattern among the considered pilot placement strategies. …

Design of wideband infinite impulse response (IIR) digital fractional order integrators (DFOIs) based on a bio-inspired metaheuristic optimization approach called the cat swarm optimization (CSO) algorithm is presented in this paper. To investigate the efficiency of the proposed approach, the CSO-based DFOIs are evaluated against those of the approximations designed using real-coded genetic algorithm (RGA), standard particle swarm optimization (PSO), and differential evolution (DE) by different magnitude and phase response error metrics. This paper presents a new realization for a CMOS four-quadrant analogue multiplier. The proposed circuit is composed of three second generation current conveyor circuits (CCII), two NMOS transistors operating in the linear region, and four passive resistances. It can be operated in current mode and voltage mode without changing the circuit topology. The simulations results of the proposed mixed mode multiplier are verified by TSPICE simulator based on the BSIM3v3 transistor model for TSMC 0.18 $\mu $m CMOS process available from MOSIS at 25 $^{\circ}$C with $\pm $0.8 V supply voltage. Deduplication of data is essential to effectively use cloud storage. As the metadata in deduplicated cloud storage are shared across multiple users, concurrent updates may result in inconsistencies. A coarse-grained locking strategy that has been proposed earlier to overcome this difficulty is not suited for inline deduplication owing to poor performance. In the present work, a fine-grained locking strategy that overcomes this shortcoming is proposed. A metadata structure along with a set of concurrent control mechanisms to accomplish this is presented. This strategy is shown to improve the throughput by as much as 60% with only marginal lock overhead.

Railway tracks must be periodically inspected. This study proposes a new approach for eliminating two major disadvantages experienced during rail inspection applications performed via computer vision. The first is the blurring effect on images, resulting from physical vibration during movement on the rail lines. This effect significantly reduces the high accuracy rate expected from anomaly inspection algorithms. The second disadvantage is the need to operate in real time. In this study, an analytical model is proposed for natural frequency calculation and acoustic noise prediction for high speed switched reluctance machines. The developed natural frequency model results are compared with the mechanical finite element analysis results in terms of 6 different mode shapes that cause the majority of the acoustic noise in switched reluctance machines. The results show that the analytical results are consistent with the numerical method results with minimum 90% matching. In this paper, an analysis of the interaction between the switching ripple filter components of a matrix converter-based drive and the components of a 0.4-kV electrical grid is presented. Based on the analysis, we propose a simplification of the conventional LCR filter. An inductance of the power grid transformer windings and an impedance of the power distribution lines could be considered as a filter component. Stemming from the above, a simplification of the filter topology is proposed. Only the capacitance component is necessary for realizing a conventional LCR filter. The paper discusses the comparison of different shapes of embedded air coils for the attitude control of small satellites. Various systems are available in the market for the attitude control of small satellites such as reaction wheels, permanent magnets, magnetic rods, and thrusters. The available systems have large size, heavier weight, and relatively higher power consumption. A miniaturized system with less power consumption and heat dissipation is required that can provide the anticipated torque. We have exploited the dual slope (DS) conversion technique to realize an intelligent system with high resolution that ensures active power measurement and electrical energy consumption. The load power is suited by two Hall effect current and voltage transducers, which are associated upstream with a precision analogue multiplier. A DS analogue-to-digital converter (DS-ADC) performs the conversion by rejecting noise with a conversion time that is multiple frequencies of the ADC's first slope. An analytically extended function based on power-exponential functions is used in this paper for approximation of electrostatic discharge (ESD) currents and their derivatives. The Marquardt least-squares method (MLSM) is applied for obtaining nonlinear function parameters. IEC 61000-4-2 Standard ESD current is approximated, as well as some measured ESD currents' wave shapes. Power-exponential terms are extended at the local maxima and minima of the represented wave shape, so that this approximation is done from peak to peak. As the use of ontologies expands, their visualization is becoming increasingly important. In this study, an ontology browser for visualizing the Trajectory Simulation ONTology (TSONT) was evaluated in terms of usability by considering its subdimensions, which are effectiveness, efficiency, and user satisfaction. The methodology employed in this study for evaluating an ontology browser is reported along with the results of the evaluation. The TSONT browser is a tree-type ontology browser created to allow developers to visualize TSONT. Six flight simulation programmers with at least one year of experience participated in the study.
