A Comparison Of Isotonic Versus Isokinetic Exercise In The Development Of Strength And Concomitant Enhancement Of Body Proportions For College Females, Diane Lloyd Gillo

This study compared Isotonic to Isokinetic exercise in an eight-week resistance training program for college females. Strength development and anthropometric measurements were evaluated by the correlated t test of initial and final scores. The independent t test compared mean improvement scores between the Isotonic group (N=14-) and the Isokinetic group (N=15)» All strength items showed significant improvement within each group; however, neither program proved superior for general strength gain. The only significant difference between groups favored the Isotonic group in leg extension. A trend was observed in enhancement of body proportions, measured anthropometrically. The purpose of this study was to survey the opinions of head basketball coaches of colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada relative to proposed rule changes in college basketball. Methodology involved construction of a ten item questionnaire dealing with proposed rule changes; a five item Liekert Scale was utilized for measure­ment of responses. The college classifications included divisions I, II, and III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Canadian College Athletic Association. The purpose of this study was to investigate the grading pro­cedures used for secondary school physical education classes in selected Virginia school districts.

A questionnaire was sent to one hundred and sixty-one physical education teachers who were listed as members of the Virginia Association For Health, Physical Education and Recreation. One hundred and seventeen questionnaires (72.5 percent) were returned.

The authors of recent literature in grading practices point out that teachers base course grades on dressing out in gym uniform, skill, effort, participation, and written tests. The data gathered in this study reflect a similar situation in Virginia schools.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the Cooper 12 Minute Run test and Bruce Multistage Treadmill test measure the same type of cardiovascular-endurance performance when testing adult women. A second purpose was to determine whether divergent levels of habitual activity by women are reflected in the scores on each test. Four groups of habitual activity were defined and labeled as follows: non-exercisers, minimal exercisers, adequate exercisers, and more than adequate exercisers. During World War I the American Red Cross initiated a program of organized recreation services for patients in military hospitals. Following the precedent established by Clara Barton who affirmed the use of recreation activities for servicemen "to counteract the baleful influence of liquor-selling resorts,” Red Cross recreators applied the pliable medium of recreation to achieve results other than the recreation experience itself. During World War II, when the Red Cross employed nearly 2,000 recreators in military hospitals, recreation specialists developed specific programs and techniques to facilitate the rehabilitation of patients in various diagnostic classifications. This study was designed to test the effects of three kinds of verbal feedback on the form and accuracy of a tennis forehand volley. Four groups (corrective, positive, positive-corrective, and control), each composed of ten eighth-grade female students, were given a pre-test, an appropriate treatment, and a post-test. During the pre- and post-tests, subjects were tested simultaneously for form and accuracy. Accuracy was measured by placement of the volleys into court sections marked with different point values. This investigation was conducted to evaluate effects of acute altitude exposure on selected pulmonary, cardiovascular, metabolic, and psychological variables measured at rest, during, and after submaximal exercise. Comparisons were made between a group of men with coronary heart disease who were participants in an exercise reha­bilitation program (trained CHD's) and a group of healthy, asymptomatic, and sedentary individuals (HI's).

Numerous concerns have led to the investigation of underlying problems associated with ineffective nutrition education programs. The need for a nutrition component to be integrated in all educational systems became apparent immediately following the 1969 National Nutrition Survey. Two-hundred and twenty successful and 143 unsuccessful free throw attempts, performed by 20 members of the South Dakota State University men's varsity basketball team, were photographed. Components of each trial which were analyzed included: (1) angle of release, (2) angle of entry, (3) height of the arch, (4) horizontal distance of the point of release from the highest point of the arch, (5) horizontal distance of the highest point of the arch to the front of the rim, and (6) height of the release.
