Students with different abilities perform lower on state standardized tests, such as the STAAR test (Texas Education Agency, n.d.). The purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to study the underlying causes that contributed to the low performance of students with different abilities on STAAR standardized tests and strategies the teachers in the State of Texas use to prepare students with different abilities. For this study, students with different abilities include students with special needs, students from economically disadvantaged families, and English language learners through the perception of middle school teachers. The Practical Implementation Of Virtual Instruction To Support Cognitive Development In Students With Low-Incidence Disabilities Through Social-Emotional Interactions, Ida Smith

This qualitative phenomenological study examines special education teachers’ perspectives to understand how virtual learning environments can support, through social–emotional interactions, the cognitive development of students with low-incident disabilities in a homebound setting. For this study, which was based on Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory (1978), qualitative data were collected through 15 semi-structured interviews with special education teachers with experience providing virtual instruction to students with low-incidence disabilities. The study’s findings showed that special education teachers perceive virtual instruction as benefiting low-incidence disability students in a homebound setting. The problem to be addressed in this quantitative study was the education system’s failure to produce individuals with the necessary skills to fulfill high-wage, high-demand technical positions in the market. The study examined whether career counseling self-efficacy levels varied across different experiences, such as educational background, years working as a community college advisor, years working as a teacher, recent training in career counseling, and perceived knowledge of career and technical education. “An Analysis of Factors Influencing the Success of Dual-Enrollment Students Through the Perspectives of Faculty and Counselors” is a qualitative study. Dual enrollment has increased enrollment by offering opportunities to a broader audience. However, portions of this broader audience may be unprepared to face the challenges of being dual-enrollment students. A lack of preparation could cause increased anxiety, feelings of inadequacy, and failure to complete classes. In 2019, a coronavirus strand, SARS-CoV-2, caused a global pandemic of respiratory illness, also referred to as the coronavirus (Covid-19). The U.S. government implemented massive school closures as a non-pharmaceutical intervention to mitigate the spread of the virus. The abrupt pivot to the asynchronous learning model resulted in low levels of engagement for many students. As a result of the pivot, students were expected to return to onsite instruction with a fraction of the learning gains, compared to a pre-pandemic school year. The purpose of this quantitative non-experimental cross-sectional study was to examine the possible relationship between students’ autonomy, students’ competence, and student-teacher relatedness, and their performance on ELA and math high-stakes tests. The self-determination theory was employed to guide the study. This study collected self-reported data from a sample of 116 5th through 8th grade students using the Basic Psychological Needs in the Classroom survey. This 5-point Likert-type survey determined to the extent that students’ perceived levels of the basic psychological needs of autonomy, competence, and relatedness influence their test performance. The problem addressed in this qualitative study is the rise in teacher job dissatisfaction and low rates of retention, which has resulted in a significant increase in teacher vacancies in school districts across the United States. The purpose of this study was to describe and understand the lived experiences of early-career secondary teachers with organizational constraints and supports as related to job satisfaction. This qualitative exploratory study investigated the selection and change of majors for nine HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) students. The study included individual structured interviews that provided data that answered the following research questions: 1) what factors influenced the initial selection of major, and 2) what factors influenced the change of major? Bronfenbrenner's ecological theory (BET), utilizing each of the five layers, was used as the theoretical framework to understand how the students’ backgrounds or their ecology influenced major choices. This study investigates the relationship between mastery goal performance and achievement on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test. With policies like the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) placing increased importance on standardized-state assessments, schools are making efforts to improve scores, often by focusing heavily on test preparation. However, such conventional methods can restrict teaching in unproductive ways. In 2020, the coronavirus pandemic and the murder of George Floyd sparked a review of racial inequities in the United States of America. There was a push to advance anti-racism and a pull to revert to the status quo of following White norms. However, many school leaders could not ignore the racial disparities plaguing the education system. They strived to support necessary change toward anti-racist, equitable schools. To achieve such transformation, organizational change was required. In the ever-evolving landscape of today's world, the realm of leadership finds itself confronted with a tapestry of intricate challenges, each thread contributing to the fabric of modern leadership style dilemmas. In this study, we aimed to explore the integrated values of Asta Brata’s leadership style within the leadership practices of school principals in Bali Provinces, Indonesia. We employed a phenomenological research design and interviewed a cohort of 50 principals from various elementary schools. Speech-language pathologists often report a lack of preparedness to provide augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) services, suggesting the need for improved graduate level training. Recent studies of AAC coursework offerings found 86% to 88% of programs offered AAC coursework, but these studies relied on survey methods with limited numbers of responses. This study examined AAC course offerings at 311 graduate programs using website and course catalog reviews, supplemented by direct contact with departments when dedicated AAC courses could not be found using online resources. Of these, 282 (90.68%) offered a dedicated AAC course, and 16 (5.14%) offered AAC in combination …

This statewide, multiyear study was an examination of industry-based certification attainment rates by the economic status of Texas public high school graduates. Data analyzed were provided by the Texas Education Agency via the Texas Academic Performance Reports for the 2019-2020, 2020-2021, and 2021-2022 school years. Inferential statistical analyses revealed that students who were economically disadvantaged earned industry-based certifications at a lower rate than all Texas high school graduates in aggregate. The gaps in attainment rates between students who were economically disadvantaged and the all student group increased over the three school years of data analyzed. Trends in attainment for both …

The intersectional identities of Black, Indigenous, and Women of Color (BIWOC) affect their sense of belonging in doctoral study as they face microaggressions and unwelcoming institutional structures. Imposter Syndrome (IS), resulting from situational, institutional, and dispositional factors, is often the result of exclusion and self-doubt. Program directors, peers, and faculty members all have a role in creating an inclusive community that mitigates IS.
