Dentistry And The Law: Update On The Ftc’S Rule Banning Covenants Not To Compete, Daniel Schulte Jd
Dentistry And The Law: Update On The Ftc’S Rule Banning Covenants Not To Compete, Daniel Schulte Jd
The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association
The Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) Final Rule to ban most employee non-compete agreements, originally set to take effect on September 4, 2024, has been delayed due to ongoing litigation. Court decisions in Pennsylvania and Texas have resulted in conflicting rulings regarding the FTC's authority to enforce such a ban. A Pennsylvania district court upheld the FTC's power to regulate non-compete agreements, while a Texas court ruled against it, declaring the ban arbitrary and capricious. No appeals have been filed yet, and the issue remains unresolved, with potential appellate court decisions and the results of the presidential election likely influencing the …

The legislation, introduced by Rep. Sharon MacDonell, aims to ensure that dental practitioners have alternative payment options that guarantee full reimbursement. The MDA continues to advocate for the bill through the legislative process, …

The New Professional: Debt Repayment Strategies: What New Dentists Should Know, Amrita Patel Dds
The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association
Dentists face significant financial challenges due to educational and practice-related loans. Effective debt repayment strategies are essential for financial stability and long-term success. Dentists should prioritize high-interest debts and explore consolidation or refinancing options to simplify debt management and reduce interest costs. Popular repayment methods include the "snowball" and "avalanche" methods, focusing on either debt balances or interest rates. Income-driven repayment plans for federal educational loans offer flexibility and potential forgiveness. Financial literacy, budgeting, emergency funds, and professional advice are key to successful debt management.

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association
This month, the MDA Editor discusses a presentation from the summer board meeting that resulted in nostalgic recollection of the '90s hit "Whoomp! (There It Is)" and the evolution of her career from a dental student to managing a large practice. By applying WOOP, the practice aims to prioritize reliable patients and manage appointments more effectively, ultimately reducing stress and improving workflow.

Disrupting Vocational Awe: Strategies For Supervisors To Identify, Counter, And Prevent Unsustainable Workloads And Unreasonable Expectations, Amanda Koziura, Amy Tureen
Library Faculty Research
This chapter provides practical recommendations for supervisors on combating the impacts of vocational awe and its resulting unsustainable workloads and unreasonable workplace expectations. We focus on supervisors because they are generally more empowered to make structural changes to employee responsibilities and job descriptions than are employees themselves. Tis formal authority to adjust work- loads in response to changing external factors renders supervisors key players in reducing organizationally embedded vocational awe and the results thereof.

Workplace loneliness is a topic of growing interest among scholars and practitioners, in part because of the known impacts of loneliness on individuals’ well-being and performance. Recent literature has suggested that senior leaders may be vulnerable to feelings of workplace loneliness but lacks a thorough depiction of how leaders experience and cope with the feelings. This qualitative study explores the lived experiences and perspectives of senior leaders through interviews with 26 leaders and seven close confidants who provide a nuanced understanding of how senior leaders experience workplace loneliness and offer insight on mitigating these feelings. The findings suggest that the …

The author presents highlights from a paper accepted at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting. A 12-minute videorecording is also available.
Gender and leadership research has traditionally employed a binary framework, overlooking the experiences of transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) leaders and forcing leaders of all genders and intersectional identities into a dichotomous frame. This paper reviewed interdisciplinary literature using a robust search strategy in three academic databases and Google Scholar, as well as across eight leadership studies journals. Sixteen sources involving 440 leaders’ experiences were found. The author conducted a thematic analysis to explore how TGNC leaders’ experiences challenge …

Sales Professional Preservation: Examining The Impact Of Incongruent Ideological Belief Systems On Intentions To Quit Among Sales Professionals, Brian Lee Morgan
Dissertations
Organizations that lead with ideologies of moral tradition, politics, and social economics are playing a losing game. The ideological belief system congruence within the organization between leaders and members creates a better atmosphere with less turnover and better recruitment. Sales professionals want an environment free of ideological incongruence. Without ideological alignment, they will defect from the organization. Leaders are miscalculating the negative impact on members’ intentions to quit when they are faced with leaders acting upon ideology changes that affect the member-customer ecosystem. In addition, leaders should be aware of the personal attributes that can exacerbate turnover and work to …

Corporate Crisis Management: A Contemporary Best Practices Template, Vivek Narayan
Finance Undergraduate Honors Theses
This paper seeks to re-envision the crisis management framework used by organizations in their day-to-day activities. In the modern world, with exponential technological advancements, the social media age, and the 24/7 news cycle, crises have worsened in severity. Despite this, most literature on the subject is more than a decade old.
Incorporating past literature, this thesis demonstrates that society is in an “era of crises,” then defines and discusses the types and origins of these crises. It compares the topics of issues and crisis management before commentating on corporate and academic literature and ultimately previous 3-stage models for crisis management. …

Breaking The Silence: Exploring The Impact Of Supervisor Vulnerability On Menstrual Disclosures At Work, Marilla Hayman
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Management research has traditionally overlooked the significance of the human body in the workplace. However, recent recognition of organizational body work has prompted the examination of biological processes such as pregnancy and breastfeeding. Menstruation, however, has received little attention, despite the challenges faced by menstruating employees. The invisibility and silence around menstruation at work hinders managers' understanding of employee needs and prevents employees from accessing needed accommodations. An important first step in remedying this problem is understanding the factors influencing employees to disclose their menstrual symptoms and seek support. Bringing together theories of organizational body work and concealable stigmas, this …

For locum tenens dentists, benefits include flexible schedules, diverse experiences, networking opportunities, and potential higher earnings. Both parties should have clear agreements and consult with healthcare attorneys. The demand for locum tenens dentists is growing, offering valuable support in the dental community.
