The purpose of this study was (1) the selection of consonant clusters of both English and Japanese; (2) the comparison and analysis of the clusters on the phonemic as well as phonetic level; and (3) the formulation of a hierarchy of difficulties encountered by the Japanese students in learning English consonant clusters.

With the capitulation of Japan in August 1945, World Tier II came to an abrupt end but that date signified the beginning of a phenomenon quite unique in history: the transformation of an alien and authoritarian culture into a democratically oriented society by means of educational Ideas and methodology. The role of American educational philosophy in the democratization of Japanese society warrants more attention than it has thus far received. It was with this in mind that the following study was undertaken.

This paper will attempt to evaluate the agricultural production of China, Japan, and Asiatic Russia in the post-World War II period. The appraisal is based on the agricultural productions which are raised mainly for food consumption; however, such industrial crops as cotton, flax, and hemp are considered also. The claims of the Chinese First Five Year Plan, results of the Japanese Land reform, and the land development program in Asiatic Russian are all examined. A comparison is made between the pre-war and post-War periods in an effort to determine the amount of increase in production of agricultural goods, on both …

Ceremonial music in Japan is a type of music used to celebrate special occasions in special places, e.g., to honor the Emperor on his birthday, or for other special celebrations at a shrine.

In Japanese, the character for ceremonial music is written 雅楽 (pronounced Gagaku). The character 雅 (ga) means graceful, noble, or excellent. The character 楽 (gaku) means good or beautiful musical sounds. Appearing together, 雅楽 the two parts of this character mean ceremonial music, which is not performed among ordinary people.

The ceremonial music is used in the Imperial Court and in shrines, although not every shrine is …

This honors project explores the historical, theoretical, and practical relationship between the Anglo-American Imagist movement and the Japanese haiku. The author argues that while Imagism existed as a formal movement for less than a decade, its core principles regarding the image and objectivity significantly shaped modern poetry. 

The study begins by tracing the origins of Imagism to T. E. Hulme, who provided the foundational theory of "new classicism" characterized by dry, hard, and accurate description. Ezra Pound later organized the movement, promoting principles such as direct treatment of the subject and the use of precise language. Simultaneously, the author outlines …

The problem investigated in this thesis is the history of the Stilwell Road, from its beginning in 1920, as the old Burma Road, to its completion, re-naming, use in 1945, and death in 1946 .

The study of this problem justifies itself for various reasons, namely: (1) The Stilwell Road was severely needed by China as the only thoroughfare to the outside world. Chinese needs were of morale , equipment and arms- both large and small, and the training and advisory leadership of existing man-power.
