The main aim of this research is to study and identify errors in numerals and quantifiers in the Japanese Language which are often made by the Malay students at MARA University of Technology, Shah Alam. The writer attempts 10 find factors that cause these errors and suggests various methods to solve the problems. The translation of figurative language is an aspect of translation which not only requires the knowledge of languages and cultures of both source and target languages but also of specific discourse and appropriate translation strategies peculiar to idiomatic expressions. This dissertation studies and analyses the translation of figurative language from Japanese into Malay in order to identify types and ways of translating idiomatic language. This research focuses on the approaches and strategies to be taken by any translator in the search for the closest natural equivalence for any given noun. However the approaches and strategies are only a suggestion based on the writer's extracted samplings from the two Japanese novels, namely Hatsukoi by Tatsuya Yoshimura and Hyaku lkkai Me no Puropousu by Shinji Yojima.
