Globalization has often been perceived as the culprit in the decline of employment in several manufacturing industries in the United States. The purpose of this research was to investigate how globalization affected the gas engine manufacturing and parts industry in Indiana during the period of 1998 – 2008, in order to assess the perception of industry professionals as to the characteristics that could, or have, led to globalization through offshoring and outsourcing. Additionally factors for the employment decline experienced in this industry were identified and assessed. The Hardwood Ecosystem Experiment (HEE) in central Indiana presents an excellent opportunity to study species reactions to different forestry practices: clearcutting, shelterwood cutting, and single tree selections. This project focuses on the differences in the populations and diets of the various insectivorous bat species in the HEE management units. Bats studied were Myotis septentrionalis, Lasiurus borealis, Eptesicus fuscus, Perimyotis subflavus, Myotis sodalis, Myotis lucifugus, and Lasionycteris noctivagans. Since insectivorous bats do not simply eat whatever is available, and I hypothesize that the diets of these bats will not change despite their changing environment and changing populations. The Hearing Room is a multimedia project intended to give its audience a unique audiovisual experience. The project takes the form of five videos, all of which include an electroacoustic soundtrack. These videos will incorporate elements of other multimedia artists’ works, utilizing the aspects that make those works so effective. With The Hearing Room, the ultimate artistic goal is to give viewers a unique audiovisual experience, while also creating a series of works that are aesthetically pleasing and personally relevant.

The conservation status of Crawfish Frogs (Lithobates areolatus) in Indiana has changed over the past several decades. Once described as being locally plentiful, declines led to the listing of Crawfish Frogs as a State Endangered Species in 1988. Several records for this species in Indiana are > 50 yrs old and have gone unconfirmed for several decades. However, recent surveys have confirmed the continued presence of Crawfish Frogs in parts of southern Indiana, redefining the perceived range of this species in the state. This research project is focused on sound art, and the material qualities of sound. The aim of this project is to employ the methodology of reflexive praxis, to better understand 'sound art' and how it communicates in the gallery context. Two mutually informing streams of research have been applied; textual analysis and creative practice. Through their combined use, the relationship between 'sound art'; and the gallery can be understood in theory based analysis and discussion, and in practice. The classroom environment can be an acoustically difficult atmosphere for students to learn effectively, sometimes due in part to poor acoustical properties. Noise and reverberation have a substantial influence on room acoustics and subsequently intelligibility of speech. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA, 1995) developed minimal standards for noise and reverberation in a classroom for the purpose of providing an adequate listening environment. A lack of adherence to these standards may have undesirable consequences, which may lead to poor academic performance.

Sonic diversity in the midst of wilderness, as original and untamed, can confound and discomfort the novice listener who becomes overwhelmed by its plethora of mysterious languages. Transcendentalist Margaret Fuller, author of Summer on the Lakes (1844), expressed sensory overload when she was confronted with the sights and sounds of Niagara Falls. Sound permeates our life, from conception, birth, and varied sonic spheres of influence that penetrate our physical space. Sound acknowledges its relevance as a cultural influence within the socialization of the individual. Storytelling is one of humanity's oldest art forms and an enduring educational method. Stories can spark social change. Although storytelling is tacitly recognized in diverse social science domains as a communication medium used to powerfully transmit leadership vision and ideas, little empirical research has been reported about how a teller constructs and tells a story. Through qualitative, arts-based methods, this heuristic study examines and describes the lived experience of a storyteller composing and performing a tale on issues of peace, justice, and social change. Rediscovering Toscanini: The Man Behind The Legend, Mark Mcknight, Susannah Cleveland

Focuses on the Don Gillis Collection, which the University of North Texas Music Library acquired after Gillis's death in 1978. Gillis, a longtime associate of Arturo Toscanini, served as the conductor's assistant and the producer for the NBC Symphony broadcast concerts from 1944 until they ended ten years later. The collection includes hundreds of tape recordings, among them complete tapes of the NBC Radio programsToscanini: The Man Behind the Legend and Toscanini: The Centennial Series, and the interviews conducted for these two programs.

In 1966 Mark Kac posed an interesting question regarding vibrating membranes and the sounds they make. His article entitled "Can One Hear the Shape of a Drum?", which appeared in The American Mathematical Monthly, generated much interest and scholarly debate. The evolution of Kac's intriguing question will be the subject of this project.
