This research project aimed to assist musicians with intellectual disabilities in the collaborative music-making process. By designing and implementing accessible techniques, the study addressed the question: "What songwriting and music production techniques can support musicians with intellectual disabilities to create original music?" The outcome was a framework of techniques and three original compositions created in collaboration with these musicians.

Using qualitative methods such as autoethnography, action research, observations, and music-specific practices, the project involved multiple collaborative sessions where participants actively engaged in music composition and recording. The purpose of this project was to explore Robert Plutchik’s eight primary human emotions - joy, sadness, trust, disgust, fear, anger, surprise, and anticipation - through three musical lenses: key selection and chord/rhythm choices; lyrics; and production and arrangement choices made for each of the eight demo recordings.

This corpus contains over 50 hours of voice acted readings as part of a dissertation project. These recordings represent one of four emotions or the subject's normal speaking voice. The four emotions acted are: anger, fear, happiness, and sadness. These recordings can be useful for building a simple emotion recognition model. Data were collected from BYU students in 2019. Supporting documents designed for people wanting replicate this project are included in Documents.zip. For more information about these files, read the README file.

This creative practice-led research project investigates sound design with the aim of exploring whether cultural influences play a crucial role in shaping sound design choices in American and Japanese supernatural horror films.
