The goal of an airline is to sell tickets at the highest fare possible, thus yielding maximum profit for the stakeholders. As airline seat pricing is divided into different fare classes, a revenue management system is created and maintained to identify opportunity costs where the airline may sell an optimum number of available seats in both discounted fare and full fare classes. Ideally, under perfect conditions, the airline will sell all available seats at full capacity for each leg of a trip. This article is about FMCSA data and its analysis. The article responds to the two-part question: How does an Item Response Theory (IRT) model work differently . . . or better than any other model? The response to the first part is a careful, completely non-technical exposition of the fundamentals for IRT models. It differentiates IRT models from other models by providing the rationale underlying IRT modeling and by using graphs to illustrate two key properties for data items. The trucking industry faces a number of issues as it tries to meet growing demand for services. Trucking services are stifled by three factors: (1) strict enforcement of hours of service requirements which preclude carriers from meeting scheduled appointments; (2) over-the-road driver shortages; and (3) the absence of tort reform or federal preemption to trump nuclear judgments which reach upstream to shippers and brokers. However, rail may be an alternative for a growing number of commodities. This article examines the viability of rail services for the wine industry.

On-farm emergency slaughter (OFES), whereby inspection, stunning, and bleeding occur on the farm before the carcass is transported to a slaughterhouse, is permitted in some jurisdictions as a means to avoid inhumane transportation while salvaging meat from injured animals. However, OFES is controversial and its use for dairy cows has been little studied. Inspection documents for 812 dairy cows were examined to identify how OFES was used for dairy cows in British Columbia, Canada, over 16.5 mo. On 24 April 2013 more than 1,100 people died in the Rana Plaza garment factory collapse in Bangladesh. TV cameras focused on the victims of this horror – the garment workers, their unsafe and pitifully low incomes. Improvements were promised, by the factory owners, their international buyer customers, Bangladesh Government and civil society groups. This study sought to examine to what extent these promises had been delivered upon. Bangladesh is the world’s second largest exporter of ready-made garments. The discoverability and admissibility of post-accident “preventability” determinations by trucking companies is often much disputed in truck accident cases. It is well known that Plaintiff’s attorneys will try to construe a trucking company’s classification of an accident as “preventable” as an admission of fault during the course of a lawsuit. However, statements made by the FMCSA provide significant support to a trucking company’s efforts to preclude discovery or admission of preventability determinations in a lawsuit. Maximum difference scaling was used to analyze the importance logistics students attach to 17 job attributes for internships as well as for full-time, entry-level positions. Significant differences in importance were found on nine of the 17 attributes tested. Room for advancement was the most important criterion for full-time positions while atmosphere/work environment was most important for internships. Implications for practitioners, academics and students are discussed. Surveys of retail security directors show that almost half of those polled had been the victims of a supplychain disruption directly related to cargo theft. This is a significant increase from just five years ago. In order to fully understand the issue of cargo theft, retailers need to know why it exists, who is perpetrating it, how risk can be reduced, and ultimately how to react to a loss. This article explores a number of dimensions of the issue, and offers several suggestions for mitigating the risk and dealing with theft after it occurs.

Risk is a significant issue for supply chain managers. Not only must they contend with multiple dimensions of risk in decision making, they must reconcile decision making with broader organizational interests. This study examines the influence of organizational communication regarding supply chain risk on individual decision-making strategies and the perceptions of risk. A multi-stage experimental design is applied, in which decision makers make decisions across three dimensions of risk and adjust their risk-taking behavior after being presented with organizational communication regarding supply chain risk levels. This research uses consumer culture theory and thematic analysis to study the phenomenon of brand symbolism and self-image in 10 year old Pakistani boys from the high socioeconomic class. Results reveal that 10-year-old Pakistani boys want to be seen as intelligent and mature. They start benchmarking themselves against an ideal self-image and also develop an understanding of symbolic consumption. Their sense of how different brands correlate with different age groups is well developed and their own consumption is moving in favor of brands and product categories that are patronized by adults.

تهدف الدراسة إلى قياس مدى تأثيرا مؤشرات سوق العراق للأوراق المالية في الاستثمار الاجنبي المباشر , بناءً على الفرضية التي تفيد بوجود علاقة ارتباط وتأثير إيجابية ومعنوية بين مؤشرات سوق العراق للأوراق المالية والاستثمار الأجنبي المباشر, وقد بيّنت هذه الدراسة أثر العلاقة باستخدام الأسلوب الوصفي لعرض مفاهيم المتغيرات, بالإضافة إلى الأسلوب القياسي باستخدام معادلة الانحدار الخطي حيث تم تقديرها بطريقة المربعات الصغرى العادية, وتوصلت نتائج الاختبار القياسي إلى وجود علاقة طردية معنوية بين الاستثمار الاجنبي وبعض مؤشرات سوق العراق الأوراق المالية وهي مؤشرات (عدد الأسهم المتداولة، حجم التداول، القيمة السوقية ,مؤشر الأسعار، عدد الشركات المتداولة)، مقابل عدم معنوية النماذج المتبقية.
