The Role Of User Psychological Contracts In The Sustainability Of Social Networks, Stanislav Mamonov, Marios Koufaris, Raquel Benbunan-Fich

Department of Information Management and Business Analytics Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Many emergent ventures, such as social networks, leverage crowd-sourced information assets as essential pillars supporting their business models. The appropriation of rights to information assets through legal contracts often fails to prevent conflicts between the users and the companies that claim information rights. In this paper, we focus on social networks and examine why those conflicts arise and what their consequences are by drawing on psychological contract theory. We propose that intellectual property and privacy expectancies comprise core domains of psychological contracts between social networks and their users. In turn, perceived breaches of those expectancies trigger a psychological contract violation. …

IT and Supply Chain Management Faculty Publications and Presentations

This article presents the results of a partnership between a nonprofit organization and a team of academic researchers that developed a low-cost spreadsheet-based tool that allows organizations to effectively schedule vehicle operations. Specifically, the tool (1) handles the real-world constraints present in moderately complex logistics environments; and (2) uses general computing hardware and software that is already deployed in most organizations, thereby rendering the solution radically low cost (effectively free). We deployed this tool to a humanitarian organization, the Idaho Foodbank, which realized a substantial improvement in its fleet efficiency and a corresponding reduction in route-planning time. The methodology used …

An Analysis Of The Renewable Energy Industry: Lagging Indicators In The Legal, Infrastructural, And Economic Forces, Alina Sigitova

Paper and Posters Presentations

The Renewable Energy industry is one of the most pivotal economic movements. As more companies shift to the corporate sustainability model, this shift must be supported by using alternative form of fuels which will not negatively impact the current and future environment and also preserve resources for future generations. However, the renewable energy industry has lagged. By examining history and status quo of the industry and the relationships between the legal, infrastructural, and economic structures surrounding it, a clearer understanding of what is holding back the industry may be gained and potential solutions may be discussed.

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

The world economy is undergoing dramatic changes, largely driven by the new availability of fine-grained information. Innovative ways of using data—large and small—have also prompted a rethinking of the boundaries for the combination and use of knowledge. The strategic design of information flows in the economy has the upside of higher economic rents and competitive advantage, as well as the downsides of wealth inequality and abuse of power. This has brought a wide range of regulatory challenges. To understand the nature of these sweeping changes, it is important to examine the new ways information is used, and how information flows …

A Needs-Ictd Strategy Alignment Foundation For The Measurement Of Ictd Impact: Three Case Studies In South Africa, Gugulethu Q. Baduza, Caroline P. Khene

The African Journal of Information Systems

Access to ICTD projects has increased over the years; however, they have not significantly changed the lives of the targeted communities. This discrepancy relates to the gap that exists between the reality of the community, its needs and the ICTD strategy of the project. This research paper presents a Needs-ICTD strategy alignment framework to support the alignment of ICTD strategy, and the development and promotion of contextual needs of marginalized areas. The framework also contributes to the identification of preliminary impact indicators, which can support impact assessment. Through a multi-case study investigation of the Siyakhula Living Lab and the SAP …

Communications of the IIMA

When developing IT systems it is important to know the requirements of the system. Requirements can be classified into different categories. In this study we look at functional and non-functional requirements. Respectively these describe the behaviour of the system (functional requirements) and the criteria under which the system works (the non-functional requirements). Furthermore this paper contributes to the understanding of the relation between the focus on non-functional requirements and the maturity of the requirements engineering process. The research question this paper addresses is: "How does the focus on non-functional requirements influence the maturity of the requirements engineering process?” The method …

Modeling Adoption Dynamics In Social Networks, Minh Duc LUU 2017 Singapore Management University

Modeling Adoption Dynamics In Social Networks, Minh Duc Luu

Dissertations and Theses Collection

This dissertation studies the modeling of user-item adoption dynamics where an item can be an innovation, a piece of contagious information or a product. By “adoption dynamics” we refer to the process of users making decision choices to adopt items based on a variety of user and item factors. In the context of social networks, “adoption dynamics” is closely related to “item diffusion”. When a user in a social network adopts an item, she may influence her network neighbors to adopt the item. Those neighbors of her who adopt the item then continue to trigger more adoptions. As this progress …
