Electronic medical record systems (EMRs) were quickly adopted by ambulatory care practices due to federal government programs encouraging their rapid adoption and implementation. The accelerated implementation and adoption of these digital care systems introduced new forms of administrative burdens that have become negatively associated with the practice of medicine. Research regarding the challenges related to implementing and adopting EMR systems has been abundant. However, there is little research on EMR optimization strategies within ambulatory practice settings. This article provides an overview of six examples of public sector AI applications in Singapore that illustrate different ways of enhancing engagement with the public. These applications demonstrate ways of enhancing engagement with the public by providing greater accessibility to government services (access anywhere, anytime) and speedier responses to public processes and feedback. Some applications make it substantially easier for members of the public to do things or make choices, while others reduce waiting time, either across an entire public infrastructure, or for an individual transaction. The curse of dimensionality, due to lots of network-traffic attributes, has a negative impact on machine learning algorithms in detecting distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. This study investigated whether adding the filter and wrapper methods, preceded by combined clustering algorithms using the Vote classifier method, was effective in lowering the false-positive rates of DDoS-attack detection methods. We examined this process to address the curse of dimensionality of machine learning algorithms in detecting DDoS attacks. Plastic waste represents one of the most urgent environmental challenges facing humankind. Upcycling has been proposed to solve the low profitability and high market sensitivity of known recycling methods. Existing upcycling methods operate under energy-intense conditions and use precious-metal catalysts, but produce low-value oligomers, monomers, and common aromatics. Herein, we report a tandem degradation-upcycling strategy to exploit high-value chemicals from polystyrene (PS) waste with high selectivity. We first degrade PS waste to aromatics using ultraviolet (UV) light and then valorize the intermediate to diphenylmethane. Low-cost AlCl3 catalyzes both the reactions of degradation and upcycling at ambient temperatures under atmospheric pressure. …

Supporting the growth of minority-owned small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is an important goal in many countries. In the US, Latinos start businesses faster than any other demographic group, yet Latino wealth and income have not kept pace with the broader society. In this study, we explore the impact of different business and owner characteristics on the performance of Latino-owned small businesses. Using a survey of over 200 Latino small business owners in Silicon Valley, we apply ordered logistic regression to measure the effect of several variables on firm revenue. Organizations with large facility and infrastructure portfolios have used asset management databases for over ten years to collect and standardize asset condition data. Decision makers use these data to predict asset degradation and expected service life, enabling prioritized maintenance, repair, and renovation actions that reduce asset life-cycle costs and achieve organizational objectives. However, these asset condition forecasts are calculated using standardized, self-correcting distribution models that rely on poorly-fit, continuous functions. The importance of quantitative literacy in business education cannot be overstated. A barrier to enhancing quantitative skills for many business majors is their math anxiety, an angst some individuals experience when working with numbers. This study explored the relationship between math anxiety, locus of control, and impostor phenomenon in business students. 220 business students (undergraduate and graduate) from a two moderately sized southeastern universities in the United States participated in an online survey that assessed these three phenomena. Smart appliances will be a significant part of the annual $300 billion smart-home market by 2025. Their use is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 31% for the foreseeable future. Currently, 12-16% of households use smart-home products in the U.S., including thermostats, TVs, refrigerators, coffee machines, garage door openers, and vision-equipped doorbells.
