This research examined how Protection of Personal Information Act No 4 of 2013 (POPIA) compliance affects organizations in South Africa. Despite the promulgation of POPIA in 2021, data breaches, abuse of personal information, and increased cyber threats persist in South Africa. As a privacy regulation, POPIA has yet to successfully safeguard personal information because it exists in a complex regulatory environment. Lack of technical measures to combat the abuse of personal information, limited awareness of the implications of POPIA compliance on organisations, and organisations' resource constraints are some factors that exacerbate the complexity of the regulatory environment. The prevalence of Generative AI (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) is increasing rapidly. For Extension professionals, the utilization of prompt engineering is key to leveraging GenAI and LLMs effectively. Prompt engineering involves crafting prompts that elicit desired LLM responses. This article discusses prompt engineering principles, providing examples and guidance. The application of prompt engineering in Extension is explored, showcasing its potential to enhance programs, deliver personalized advice, engage audiences, and disseminate research-based information. By learning prompt engineering skills, Extension professionals can harness the power of GenAI and LLMs, enhancing their ability to address complex challenges in the 21st century.

Are Corporations Responding To Civil Society Pressure?: A Multilevel Analysis Of Corporate Emissions, Annika Rieger

Previous research in the world-society tradition associates improvements in nation-level environmental outcomes with greater civil society integration. However, research in the world-systems tradition indicates these improvements depend on a nation’s position in the global political-economic hierarchy. To test whether these patterns are present at the organizational level, I estimate a multilevel model using corporate emissions data from the Carbon Disclosure Project and include interactions between world-system position and three measures of civil society integration: number of NGOs, proportion of corporations with climate-management incentives, and number of corporate UN Global Compact signatories. We examine how nationalism influences governance choice in cross-border collaborations. While nationalism has historically been within the purview of political scientists, we demonstrate its relevance to management scholars by theorizing how nationalist attitudes and behaviors among decision-makers might shape strategic decisions about collaborations with foreign partners. Drawing on insights from the social psychology literature, we theorize how two attitudes commonly associated with nationalism, i.e., lower levels of trust and an unwillingness to work with foreigners, may increase decision-makers’ concerns about opportunistic behavior and invasiveness in cross-border collaborations. Under the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA), entities existing as of January 1, 2024, must report beneficial ownership to FinCEN by December 31, 2024. Beneficial owners include those with 25% ownership or substantial control. Required information includes legal name, birthdate, address, and ID details. Non-compliance can result in severe civil and criminal penalties. Exceptions may apply for tax-exempt entities and large companies. Legal challenges to the CTA are ongoing, but compliance is advised.

Does Violent Crime Matter In Tax Aggressiveness?, Chun Qi

Research in psychology documents that repeated exposure to violence increases behavioral aggressiveness. This mechanism is likely to apply to organizations through interactions and connections among individuals within local social networks. In this study, violent crimes are used as a social context to examine local corporate aggressive behaviors. The focus is on management, which is mainly responsible for making corporate decisions. The study investigates whether firms' tax aggressiveness is positively associated with the violent crime rate surrounding their headquarters. This article brings valuable insights from Stephen Covey’s Principle-Centered Leadership (PCL) to the limelight as a contribution to the critical efforts of leadership practitioners and scholars to remedy organizations and societies through quest for ethics in leadership and practice of value-based leadership (VBL). It explored the major ideas and content of PCL and demonstrated its significance in the current leadership research. In 2021, Nevada’s legislature passed Senate Bill 267 (SB267), authorizing the University Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) to study DEI benchmarks in the State. A survey was provided to businesses, state and local governments, and the Nevada System of Higher Education in an effort to study and evaluate how effectively employers are implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in Nevada.
