When, in 2003, the Las Vegas Visitors and Convention Authority (LVCVA) launched the tag line “What happens here, stays here,” it reinforced the idea, already supported by the media, that in Sin City everything is allowed. Looking at the COVID-19 crisis, one might wonder how, after being seen for years as a place without restrictions, Las Vegas could convince its tourists to respect some rigid safety guidelines. This paper tries to answer that question starting from the framework of the host-guest relationship, which is widely used in anthropology and sociology of tourism. Dignity: A Journal of Analysis of Exploitation and Violence

The purpose of this manuscript is to examine the risk of sexual exploitation (both assault and harassment) associated with sorority and fraternity membership on U.S. college campuses. The results from this study come from data collected through an online survey. Participants (N=883) at a large Pacific Northwestern university provided information related to their sorority or fraternity membership, experiences of sexual violence (i.e., assault and harassment), and alcohol use. We both replicated and extended past research. Corroborating prior research, Greek-affiliated students experienced higher rates of sexual assault than non-affiliated students. This thesis is an invitation to dive into the possibilities that emerge in the multiple stages of displacement journeys of a group of diverse Syrian women from a middle-class background, who happen to live in Berlin today, and learn about the displaced bodies' experiences from a personal scale. By capturing the journeys' nuances and trajectories, this study demonstrates how the mobile subjects interact differently and create different attachments with different power structures in the various modes which emerge through the journeys' different spatial and chronological stages. The paper studies the immense opposition to a nonviolent campaign against the practice of moral policing in Kerala to understand the dominant spaces, collective identities, and discourses that give shape to the outrage of public morality in India. The campaign through its politics specifically targeted rightwing and political groups as well as socially embedded familial and institutional structures that exercise control over individuals through patriarchal regimes. This article assesses whether or not a cultural event can play a peacebuilding role during the postviolence phase of conflict. Cultural expression has long been a contentious issue in Northern Ireland, no more so than in Derry/Londonderry, the city at the center of this study. Adopting a qualitative approach, the authors used the city’s Fleadh Cheoil (2013) event as a case study and found that it served three of the seven peacebuilding functions outlined by Paffenholz and Spurk: social cohesion, in-group socialization, and intermediation/facilitation. This study explores how twelve former Lexington-area Japanese sojourning mothers define culturally and linguistically appropriate services and how culture, gender and language shaped their health care beliefs, behaviors and experiences in pediatric settings. It is a naturalistic, pragmatic line of inquiry born in collaboration with Japanese sojourning moms across cups of matcha 末茶 and mugicha 麦茶. Margaret Cho is a comedic goddess who, in her mockery, serves flaming hot social commentary about race, body image, and fatness. Within this thesis, I used critical discourse analysis to understand how Margaret Cho embodies Asianness, whiteness, and the body types and images prescribed respectively. While working on data analysis, I came across a common media trope of fat women: the use of indexically Southern (United States), Appalachian, and Working class indexicals in speech and lexical items. The use of dating applications (apps) to find romantic and sexual partners is widespread across age groups, however, there is a paucity of research on dating apps with those in middle adulthood. Sexual script theory suggests that women’s agency (i.e. the ability to act in one’s own best interest) may be impacted by expectations from an inherently sexualized context, such as dating apps. When we recount the histories of social movements, there is a tendency to imagine either a steady, linear march towards progress or a slow descent from radical ideas into complacency. This study explores the complex relationship between humans and nonhuman animals through the lens of stock shows and rodeos (SSR). This study employs a feminist theoretical framework and an interpretive qualitative research methodology to gain insight into the ways in which humans practice a range of speciesist behaviors relating to their commodification, consumption, and care of other animals. Data consist of semi-structured interviews with 21 individuals who participate in SSR as spectators and competitors and with two animal medical experts, along with field observations at three different SSR held in Florida and Texas. I define girlboss feminism as emergent, mediated formations of neoliberal feminism that equate feminist empowerment with financial success, market competition, individualized work-life balance, and curated digital and physical presences driven by self-monetization. I look toward how the mediation of girlboss feminism utilizes branded and affective engagements with representational politics, discourses of authenticity and rebellion, as well as meritocratic aspiration to promote cultural interest in conceptualizing feminism in ways that are divorced from collective, intersectional struggle. การศึกษาวิจัยเรื่อง "ปัจจัยการพัฒนาการท่องเที่ยวเชิงสร้างสรรค์ในเส้นทางวัฒนธรรม กรณีศึกษา ชุมชนการท่องเที่ยวเชิงวัฒนธรรมย่านเมืองเก่าริมแม่น้ำเพชรบุรี" ในครั้งนี้เป็นการศึกษาเชิงปริมาณกับการศึกษาเชิงคุณภาพ โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์ในการศึกษาเพื่อ 1) เพื่อศึกษาทุนทางวัฒนธรรมของชุมชนท่องเที่ยวเชิงวัฒนธรรมย่านเมืองเก่าริมแม่น้ำเพชรบุรีที่สามารถนำมาต่อยอดให้เกิดมูลค่าเพิ่มและกิจกรรมทางการท่องเที่ยวเชิงสร้างสรรค์ 2) เพื่อศึกษาการมีส่วนร่วมและศักยภาพด้านการท่องเที่ยวเชิงสร้างสรรค์ของตัวแทนชุมชนและสมาชิกในชุมชนท่องเที่ยวเชิงวัฒนธรรมย่านเมืองเก่าริมแม่น้ำเพชรบุรี 3) เพื่อเสนอแนะปัจจัยที่นำไปสู่แนวทางการพัฒนาการท่องเที่ยวเชิงสร้างสรรค์ในชุมชนท่องเที่ยวเชิงวัฒนธรรมย่านเมืองเก่าริมแม่น้ำเพชรบุรีในอนาคต ผลการศึกษา พบว่า 1) ทุนทางวัฒนธรรมมีความสอดคล้องและเอื้อให้สามารถให้เกิดกระบวนการที่ดำเนินให้เกิดการพัฒนา โดยสามารถใช้ปัจจัยภายในชุมชนนำเสนอและยกระดับให้เกิดการสร้างแรงจูงใจนักท่องเที่ยวชาวไทย 2) การมีส่วนร่วมในชุมชนมีการให้ความร่วมมือในการจัดกิจกรรมการท่องเที่ยวค่อนข้างน้อย เนื่องจากการจัดงานดำเนินการโดยกลุ่มแกนนำเป็นส่วนมาก ทำให้สมาชิกในชุมชนส่วนหนึ่งมีส่วนร่วมกับกิจกรรมในระดับน้อย ทางด้านศักยภาพของชุมชนมีความสามารถในการรองรับนักท่องเที่ยวชาวไทยในระดับที่ดี ทั้งในด้านเศรษฐกิจ สิ่งแวดแล้ว สังคมและชุมชน 3) แนวทางในการพัฒนาการท่องเที่ยวเชิงสร้างสรรค์ในเส้นทางวัฒนธรรมที่ต้องอาศัยการจัดการที่ดีและความมีส่วนร่วมจากทุกภาคส่วน เนื่องจากชุมชนมีทิ้งจุดเด่นและจุดที่ต้องปรับปรุงของชุมชนที่สามารถพัฒนาไปเป็นการท่องเที่ยวเชิงสร้างสรรค์และกระตุ้นเศรษฐกิจภายในชุมชนไปในทิศทางที่ดียิ่งขึ้น โดยในชุมชนการท่องเที่ยวเชิงวัฒนธรรมย่านเมืองเก่าริมแม่น้ำเพชรบุรีมีปัจจัยอยู่ 4 ด้าน ได้แก่ ปัจจัยด้านการจัดการ ปัจจัยด้านการมีส่วนร่วม ปัจจัยด้านการเข้าถึงและปัจจัยด้านสถานที่ท่องเที่ยว
