There is a growing movement in Great Britain to abolish the census. This development was spearheaded by conservative politicians, who argued that the census was both prohibitively expensive (Maude 2014) and a violation of citizens’ privacy rights (Dorling 2013:6). Other Anti-Census activists argued that data could be gathered from various local agencies could be gathered and aggregated, in much more streamlined and cost effective process. Although key stakeholders in academia, local government, and civil society vigorously fought these proposals, the census's existence in the UK remains distinctively in doubt. The State of South Dakota has incorporated GIS in a wide range of agency applications over the years. The current implementation of GIS in the State ranges from geoprocessing by environmental scientist to providing complex data in an easy to understand format for the general public. Currently the demand for GIS functionality has precipitated the State’s SDI (Spatial Data Infrastructure) to rapidly grow in depth and breadth. This expansion, although not complete, has had a huge impact in the improvement of data entry, improved data validation, and a more open and transparent government.

By all counts, Puerto Rico’s housing market is in a deep and prolonged crisis. At least 18 percent of Puerto Rico’s housing stock is vacant as a result of the island’s prolonged economic recession, which commenced in 2006, and the spike in foreclosures after Hurricane Maria suggests that vacant units are increasing at an accelerated rate. Puerto Rico’s economic recession led to depopulation and the loss of jobs, which induced a decline of home equity values and an increase in foreclosures. Census Bureau data indicated that, in 2016, Pennsylvania was the state with the fourth most Puerto Ricans (444,263), accounting for 8.2 percent of the Puerto Rican population in the United States. Puerto Ricans accounted for 3.5 percent of the total population in Pennsylvania, and 49.4 percent of the state’s Hispanic or Latino population in 2016. In other words, one in every two Latinos in Pennsylvania was Puerto Rican. As of 2016, the Puerto Rican population was the largest group of Latinos in Pennsylvania, followed by Mexicans (17.7%), Dominicans (11.5%), South Americans (7.1%), Central Americans (6.6%), and Cubans (2.5%). Data from the U.S. Census Bureau indicated that the Puerto Rican population in Connecticut has fluctuated over the past 6 years. Connecticut ranked as the sixth state with the most Puerto Ricans in the United States (298,245). The Puerto Rican population in Connecticut rose from 252,972 in 2010 to 298,245 in 2016. In 2016, Puerto Ricans accounted for 8.3 percent of the total population in Connecticut and 53 percent of the state’s Hispanic or Latino population making it the largest Latino-origin group in the state. Introduction: This report examines the extent of gentrification in the New York City neighborhood of Jackson Heights/Corona – officially designated Queens Community District #3 -- traditionally one of the borough’s most quintessential Latino neighborhoods.

Methods: The findings reported here are based on data collected by the Census Bureau IPUMS (Integrated Public Use Microdata Series), available at http://www.usa.ipums.org for the corresponding years and the US Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. This report analyzes data from PUMAS 05403 (1990) and 04102 (2000/2010/2016) in Queens.

This report describes research undertaken by the Center for Social & Demographic Research on Aging within the Gerontology Institute at the University of Massachusetts Boston, on behalf of the Bedford Council on Aging (COA), to investigate the needs, interests, preferences, and opinions of Bedford’s population of residents who are age 55 and older. The contents of this report are meant to inform the Bedford COA, and other municipal entities, for the purposes of planning and coordination of services, but also to build awareness about issues facing the Town of Bedford’s senior residents.

Incarceration rates and the release rate of ex-offenders into the community are both increasing. Studies have shown, on a consistent basis, that, while incarcerated, ex-offenders experience lower literacy levels than the general population, suffer emotional and mental distress from a harsh prison life, and suffer from the negative effects of public perception. Ex-offender anger abounds. These factors interfere with an inmate’s ability to communicate effectively. Notwithstanding, upon release from custody, how do we help such ex-offenders communicate? On September 20, 2017, Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico as a category 4 cyclone, with minimum sustained winds blowing at 145 mph, peaking at 155 mph as it made landfall. The northwest trajectory of the storm assured that the entire island would be affected by its effects. One month henceforth, the island’s authorities indicate that 49 people had died as a direct result of the hurricane. The Puerto Rican government figures indicated 64 deaths were directly related to the hurricane, even though journalistic accounts pointed to more than 1,000 deaths and a Harvard University Study estimated the count at 4,645.1 …
