Policing strategies that seek to simultaneously combat crime and vehicle crashes operate under the assumption that these two problems have a corollary relationship—an assumption that has received scant empirical attention and is the focus of the present study. Geocoded vehicle crash, violent crime, and property crime totals across were aggregated to Indianapolis census blocks over a 36-month period (2011-2013). Time series negative binomial regression and local indicators of spatial autocorrelation analyses were conducted. Results indicate that both violent and property crime are significantly related to vehicle crash counts, both overall and during the temporal confines of patrol tours. Relationship strength …

Within the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice system, juvenile delinquency referrals have decreased, yet at the same time, juvenile recidivism rates continue to challenge policy makers. Using Hirschi's social learning theory as the foundation, the purpose of this descriptive phenomenological study was to examine the perceptions of juvenile justice professionals about their experiences with youthful offenders in order to determine the causes of juvenile recidivism. Police academies mandate specific job-related fitness requirements for recruits as a condition of graduation. การศึกษาเรื่องการกลับใจของผู้พ้นโทษในบ้านกึ่งวิถีแนวคริสต์ ศึกษากรณีบ้านกึ่งวิถีบ้านพระพร ของมูลนิธิพันธกิจเรือนจำคริสเตียน มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาแนวคิดและรูปแบบการดำเนินกระบวนการของบ้านกึ่งวิถีบ้านพระพร กระบวนการกลับใจที่เกิดขึ้นกับผู้พ้นโทษที่สมัครใจเข้าร่วมในบ้านกึ่งวิถีบ้านพระพร และแนวทางในการพัฒนาบทบาทของภาคประชาสังคมในรูปแบบของบ้านกึ่งวิถี ที่นำเอาหลักคำสอนในพระคริสตธรรมคัมภีร์มาปรับใช้ช่วยเหลือผู้พ้นโทษที่มีความแตกต่างหลากหลายให้กลับสู่สังคม โดยใช้วิธีการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลด้วยการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก และนำข้อมูลที่ได้มาวิเคราะห์เพื่ออธิบายประสบการณ์การกลับใจของผู้พ้นโทษและการดำเนินการในบ้านกึ่งวิถีแนวคริสต์ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า (1) การดำเนินงานของบ้านพระพรมีการดูแลสมาชิกอย่างเป็นระบบ กิจกรรมต่างๆส่งเสริมระเบียบวินัยและความรับผิดชอบของสมาชิก ดูแลปัจจัยพื้นฐาน ฝึกอาชีพเสริม และมีชั้นเรียนเพื่อพัฒนาความรู้ทางพระคัมภีร์ นอกจากนี้ ยังมีกระบวนการจัดการกับอารมณ์และพฤติกรรมติดตัวของสมาชิกให้เป็นไปในทางที่ดีขึ้น มีคริสตจักรพระพรเป็นศูนย์กลางประสานงานกับผู้พ้นโทษและเป็นสถานที่ที่สมาชิกเก่าและใหม่สามารถกลับมารวมตัวกันได้ ซึ่งทำให้เกิดพันธะทางสังคมที่ต่อเนื่องช่วยในการสอดส่องดูแลพฤติกรรมอย่างไม่เป็นทางการเมื่อกลับสู่สังคม (2) กระบวนการกลับใจของสมาชิกในบ้านพระพร พบว่าสมาชิกมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงในจิตใจคือตัดสินใจที่จะละทิ้งการกระทำผิดและตั้งใจดำเนินชีวิตตามแบบอย่างของพระเยซูคริสต์เริ่มตั้งแต่ในเรือนจำ และมีสมาชิกบางคนเกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงนี้เมื่อได้รับการฝึกฝนในบ้านพระพรแล้ว การเปลี่ยนแปลงเกิดทั้งด้านพฤติกรรม ด้านอัตมโนทัศน์ และด้านจิตวิญญาณส่งผลให้สมาชิกมีมุมมองใหม่ต่อตนเองและผู้อื่นในทางที่ดีขึ้น ช่วยให้พวกเขาดำเนินชีวิตในช่วงเปลี่ยนผ่าน (Transitional Period) จากเรือนจำไปสู่สังคมภายนอกได้อย่างเข้มแข็ง (3) ควรมีการขยายแนวคิดในการส่งต่อผู้พ้นโทษจากเรือนจำไปอยู่ในการดูแลของคริสตจักรหรือให้หน่วยงานภาคเอกชนอื่นๆ เข้ามาช่วยแก้ไขปัญหาแบบครบวงจรโดยอาจพ่วงมิติของศาสนาอันจะส่งผลให้เกิดการช่วยเหลือผู้พ้นโทษที่เป็นรูปธรรมมากขึ้น

Steven Avery, a Wisconsin native, has spent the majority of his adult life in prison, once for a crime he was later exonerated from, and then again for murder. The Netflix series Making a Murderer documents Avery's murder trial, and uses only first hand accounts. Ultimately, this research had two goals: one was to better understand how the series utilized framing to engage in advocacy for Avery and the second was to uncover what identity was constructed by the producers and series for Avery. The United States has unusually high rates of violence among developed nations, including the victimization of and perpetration by youth. Using Institutional Anomie Theory (IAT) as the theoretical framework, this study analyzes the relationships between social institutions and crime and the interactive relationships among the institutions in a sample of Virginia localities. Multivariate analyses are conducted to produce additive and multiplicative models, and simple slope analyses are conducted to clarify interaction/moderation effects. Findings yield mixed support for IAT. Localities with higher levels of monthly welfare per recipient (a measure of polity) have lower juvenile violent crime arrest rates, and welfare …

Seventy-five percent of women offenders confined to prison, jails, or residential treatment programs are custodial parents of minor children at the time of their separation. Little is known, though, about how prosocial networks are used to address the effects of separation from children. The prison system releases over 590,000 inmates annually, adding to the current 5 million ex-offenders on supervised release. The purpose of this study was to explore the problem of increasing recidivism by identifying ex-offenders' dynamic risk and criminogenic need factors using the Level of Service Inventory-Revised (LSI-R), coupled with or without mental health services during reentry in relation to recidivism. This quantitative, nonexperimental, cross-sectional study included data collected from a sample of 128 male recidivist and nonrecidivist federal ex-offenders currently on supervised release, who were recruited during probation office meetings within the South Texas region. Police officers continue to sustain injuries during close proximity encounters with non-compliant and combative suspects. The purpose of this quasi-experimental study was to examine whether the use of less-lethal instruments, such as conducted energy devices, oleoresin capsicum, impact batons, and hands/feet defensive tactic reduced police officer injury during confrontations with uncooperative suspects at a medium-sized police department in a southern state. This study sought to examine the factors that influenced a high school student’s educational aspirations. This study used data collected by the High School Longitudinal Study (HSLS) 2009-2013 to examine how a student’s engagement, interest, attitudes toward math teacher, counselors helping with college materials, and meeting with a counselor influence a student’s educational aspirations. The findings suggest that student engagement, student interest and meeting with a counselor were significant predictors of higher educational aspirations even after controlling for being white, female, academic track, and family income. การศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาปัญหาการบังคับใช้กฎหมายมาตรการสำหรับการเผยแพร่เพลงลิขสิทธิ์อย่างเหมาะสม และการลดปัญหาการเผยแพร่เพลงลิขสิทธิ์ในร้านอาหาร - ร้านกาแฟ โดยใช้วิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพเก็บข้อมูลด้วยวิธีการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกจากกลุ่มตัวอย่าง 2 กลุ่ม ได้แก่ ผู้ประกอบการร้านอาหาร - ร้านกาแฟในกรุงเทพมหานคร จำนวน 9 คน และเจ้าหน้าที่ในกระบวนการยุติธรรม ประกอบด้วยเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจในกรุงเทพมหานคร จำนวน 3 คน และผู้พิพากษาศาลทรัพย์สินทางปัญญาและการค้าระหว่างประเทศกลาง จำนวน 1 คน การสุ่มตัวอย่างใช้แบบที่มีลักษณะเฉพาะเจาะจง (purposive sampling) และการสุ่มตัวอย่างแบบลูกโซ่ (snowball sampling) โดยใช้วิธีการพรรณนาข้อมูลร่วมกับการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหาข้อมูลที่ได้จากการสัมภาษณ์ ผลการศึกษาพบว่า 1) ปัญหาด้านการบังคับใช้กฎหมายที่สำคัญคือ การเลือกปฏิบัติในการตรวจสอบการเผยแพร่เพลง รวมไปถึงการแสวงหาผลประโยชน์แอบแฝงของผู้รับมอบอำนาจ ประกอบกับผู้ประกอบการส่วนใหญ่มีความรู้ในการเผยแพร่เพลงลิขสิทธิ์อยู่ในระดับน้อย 2) มาตรการที่เหมาะสมสำหรับการเผยแพร่เพลงลิขสิทธิ์คือ การกำหนดบทบาทการใช้อำนาจของผู้รับมอบอำนาจให้ชัดเจนเพื่อป้องกันการแสวงหาผลประโยชน์แอบแฝง และระบุรายละเอียดในข้อกฎหมายเกี่ยวกับข้อยกเว้นการละเมิดลิขสิทธิ์ให้ชัดเจน โดยยึดผลประโยชน์ของเจ้าของผลงาน และการปกป้องคุ้มครองผลงานลิขสิทธิ์ 3) แนวทางการลดปัญหาและข้อเสนอแนะจากการศึกษานี้คือ การให้ความรู้ความเข้าใจในเรื่องกฎหมายลิขสิทธิ์และการเผยแพร่เพลงลิขสิทธิ์แก่ประชาชน เพื่อพัฒนาความรู้ความเข้าใจและทัศนคติที่ดีต่อลิขสิทธิ์ในประเทศไทยต่อไป
