After the reformation (reformasi) in 1998, some civil society organizations (CSOs) have en- dorsed policy changes from outside the government and have involved in many ministries’ assistance team to implement government’s development programs. These CSOs’ political action changes from outside to become inside the government are caused by the openness of political opportunity from political regime after Reformasi. This paper tries to understand why religious violence increasingly occurs in post-New Order Indonesia. There are two dominant views in understanding this. First, the secu- rity approach that perceives the violence as a result of the emergent of “radical” agent of political Islam in the more open political space. In this regard, the state is considered weak because the iron hand as used by the authoritarian regime in the past New Order has disappeared. Although research has made significant gains in understanding the constitutive nature of conversation in the process of organizing, its predictive effects on organizational outcomes are still uncertain. To contribute in this direction, based on social exchange theory and leader-member exchange (LMX) research, this study examined the predictive effects of leader-member conversational quality (LMCQ) on employee organizational commitment (OC), and the potential interaction effects of LMCQ with LMX quality. Using data from an online survey, this study found that above and beyond communication frequency and other control variables, LMCQ is significantly associated with employee OC. The Relationship Between Accounting Processes And Interpersonal Trust Within Organizations, Jace B. Garrett

Trust is an increasingly critical determinant of organizational success. This dissertation consists of three studies investigating the relationship between firms’ accounting processes and interpersonal trust. Using survey data from Great Place to Work® Institute, the first study investigates the association between trust (i.e., employees’ trust in management) and three aspects of financial reporting: accruals quality, misstatements, and internal control quality. Results suggest that trust is associated with better financial reporting quality. However, these effects are not uniform across companies. Consistent with trust improving financial reporting quality through improved information production and information sharing, results suggest that trust is significantly associated …
