Shedding Light On Employee Theft’S Dark Figure: A Typology Of Employee Theft Nonreporting Rationalizations, Jay P. Kennedy

Employee theft is one of the most harmful crimes a small business can experience. Yet despite the large financial, organizational, and emotional toll employee theft takes, it is one of the most underreported crimes committed against small businesses. Using data obtained from interviews with victimized small business owners, this article develops a typology of employee theft nonreporting rationalizations. Additionally, interview data indicate that nonreporting rationalizations follow a general pattern of use, beginning with an assessment of the theft as trivial or significant, and proceeding to a consideration of personal factors that influence nonreporting, which is followed by a consideration of …

Antecedents Of Cross-Cultural Adaptation Stress In Short-Term International Assignments, Kerri Anne Crowne, Robert L. Engle

Organization Management Journal

This study examines the role of cultural intelligence, perceived language fluency, and number of previous international experiences during a short-term international community service project in a foreign country. Based on a sample of 171 undergraduate and graduate students, the findings suggest that motivational cultural intelligence significantly impacted lowering cross-cultural adaptation stress levels experiences during short-term trips, while perceived language ability significantly increased stress levels. In addition, the control variables of age and gender were also found to significantly impact stress levels. Implications for research and practice are discussed

The purpose of this study is to measure the message terror organizations hope to convey using the financial markets as a proxy of measurement to determine patterns within the marketplace and the effects on the terrorists’ ability to deliver a desired message due to the increased use of digital devices and access to instantaneous news, seen over the past decade. Using death count, geographic location, and event type, this study identified 109 attacks between 1985 and 2015 to be analyzed against 5 market indices and 5 securities. Corporate Crisis Communication: Examining The Interplay Of Reputation And Crisis Response Strategies, Dane M. Kiambi, Autumn Shafer

This experiment study used a 2 × 3 between-subjects design to assess two factors in crisis communication and reputation management—prior corporate reputation (good and bad) and crisis response strategies (apology, sympathy, and compensation)—on an organization facing high crisis responsibility. Results indicate that stakeholders prefer apology to compensation response strategies. Organizations with a prior good reputation have better postcrisis reviews that those with a prior bad reputation. Crisis managers facing crises that generate high attribution of crisis responsibility and anger are advised to rely on apology rather than compensation strategy. The present study investigated the influence of receiver sex on supervisor’s feedback message choice, and the influence of the interaction between receiver sex and feedback message type on employees’ subsequent behaviors and attitudes. Participants (N = 45) included a representative sample from a reputable organization in the southeastern United States. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected using a survey methodology. This mixed-methods approach revealed that while participants in this study rated the overall atmosphere of the performance evaluation as positive and informal, the interaction between receiver sex and feedback message type did have a statistically significant influence on …

"The development, content, and application of mission statements have been highly researched, studied, and discussed in generic terms. This case study was designed to develop and expand understanding of the mission of Downtown Spokane Partnership, rather than to generalize beyond it. Mission-focused questions were included in a communication audit conducted for Downtown Spokane Partnership [DSP], a non-profit organization [NPO] that advocates for the development of the downtown Spokane area.
