This study report assesses the free availability of scholarly publications during the 1996 to 2013 period. It is the largest scale measurement of open access availability performed to date: a sample of one-quarter of a million records was used to study the historical evolution of open access (OA) between 1996 and 2013 and a larger, one million records sample was used to perform an in-depth assessment of the proportion and scientific impact of OA between 2008 and 2013 in different types of OA, for different scientific fields of knowledge, and for 44 countries, the EU28, ERA, and the world.

Print your own cookie cutter on a 3D printer using one of these files designed by Chip Wolfe, Digitization Specialist/Access Services Technician at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

The .dae file does not need to scaled; the .stl file will need to be scaled. The cutter was designed to be 14 mm deep and 85 mm top to bottom, but can be rescaled to whatever size you like.

Door hangers provide a brief description of OA Week events aimed at faculty.

These were printed at our campus print shop at minimal cost. Circles were cut with a circle tool borrowed from the library's Badge-A-Minit button-making system. Door hangers were hung on every professor's office door.

The Singapore Management University started implementing a new solution for Integrated Research Information System (IRIS) in April 2014. Project background and some success factors is covered. IRIS would replace existing silo in-house systems. The key objective of IRIS is to have one system that takes care of ethics, research project management, grant management, publications and reporting. During the IRIS project implementation, the tasks performed included mapping of existing fields to the new IRIS and loading of existing data to IRIS test system. New workflows and some re-configuration of the default system were proposed.

In October 2013, George Washington University's School of Public Health and Health Services (now the Milken Institute School of Public Health) approached the Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library about moving a large collection of Health Policy Department publications and citations from the school's website into the Health Sciences Research Commons (HSRC) institutional repository. After a project planning meeting with the school's representative, library staff began uploading documents and citations from the collection. Working from a spreadsheet and file set provided by the school, library staff processed 604 citations (including 319 full-text files) dating back to 1996. Despite some problem files and …

A faculty publication fund is a fairly new concept in scholarly communication, and academic institutions are experimenting with different models for the administration of funds designed to assist faculty who face prohibitive journal publication charges. Findings are reported from a survey-based, qualitative study of small and medium-sized academic libraries involved with open access faculty publication funds. The survey results and a case study of one library’s involvement in fund development are considered in light of the broader research questions: How are libraries engaging as facilitators of scholarly publishing, and what successes and challenges are they facing in this new role?

In 2009, Purdue University Press had recently been moved into the Libraries, and there was enthusiasm about exploring new relationships which could combine the publishing skills of the Press with use of Purdue e-Pubs, the institutional repository platform that also featured powerful publishing features. Publishing an undergraduate research journal was particularly appealing because it connected the scholarly communication program of the Libraries with strategic goals around information literacy. INTRODUCTION This paper reports on a survey administered to faculty at Chapman University to assess their knowledge, attitudes, and practices with regard to scholarly communications, in order to help the new scholarly communications librarian plan appropriate library programs and services to meet faculty needs. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM The survey was adapted from the Institute on Scholarly Communications’ “Faculty Involvement in Scholarly Communications Opportunity Assessment Instrument” for a faculty audience in early fall 2013. NISO is the National Information Standards Organization, a non-profit industry organization whose mission statement reads: “NISO fosters the development and maintenance of standards that facilitate the creation, persistent management, and effective interchange of information so that it can be trusted for use in research and learning.” Their recently-issued proposed guidelines for new metadata fields to be attached to scholarly works purport to address and clarify issues of access and re-licensing surrounding the electronic distribution of journal articles.
