In 2017, the Chester Fritz Library launched our institutional repository, the UND Scholarly Commons. Our first publication was an open access edition of The History of North Dakota, a widely used state history book that we purchased the rights to publish digitally. After receiving scans of the print book from the publisher, we created PDF, EPUB, and MOBI versions of the book and disseminated it widely across OER indexing platforms.

We drew on this experience in 2023, when we partnered with North Dakota’s Department of Public Instruction to release digital editions of a series of textbooks about the culture and …

Restructuring And Upgradation Of The Dspace-Based Institutional Repository Of Cept University Library: A Case Study, Namrata Dobariya, Gayatri Doctor Dr.

The Journal of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Purpose: This paper aims to present a strategic overview of the restructuring of the CEPT repository structure, maintaining and upgrading its software for continuous access improved services.

Method: The process of restructuring and upgrading CEPT University Library's repository to DSpace 7 involved identifying the need for technical proficiency, establishing a new server, configuring the repository, migrating existing data while preparing metadata. Furthermore, data in the new storage hierarchy was restructured, and SSL integration with Shibboleth was implemented.

Result: The paper highlights the benefits and outcomes of the restructuring process, emphasizing the enhanced accessibility, discoverability, and preservation of scholarly works.

Over the past two decades, institutional repositories (IRs) have become commonplace among academic libraries. The digitization of theses and dissertations at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) began five years ago with the Digital Commons institutional repository (IR) platform, ScholarWorks, employed for the purpose. The project, initiated by the University Library, exemplifies how academic libraries can take the lead in advocating for digital preservation and open access publishing of institutional research materials. A team of four people administers the UNL institutional repository (https://digitalcommons.unl.edu), which is one of the largest (109,000-plus full text items) and most-accessed (over 62,000,000 downloads) in the United States. The team also administers a robust library publishing program with over 80 scholarly monographs and 12 peer-reviewed journals. A recent focus of the program has been open educational resources, partnering with scholars to identify or create free online learning objects.

This article describes a collaboration between Grinnell College’s libraries and its Office of Development and Alumni Relations on an oral history project in which college alumni are interviewed about their experiences at the college. Such close collaborations between development offices and libraries are rare. This collaboration was successful due to the equal participation of all parties.

Smathers Libraries (Libraries) at the University of Florida (UF) andElsevier delivered the Phase I findings of a pilot project that aimed to maximize visibility, impact and dissemination of articles by UF researchers who have published in Elsevier journals. Beginning April 2016, the collaboration provided metadata with article links automatically delivered toUF’s Institutional Repository, the IR@UF, in theIR@UF-Elsevier Collection. The Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA)’s Academic Resources & Repository System (CALASYS) is an important initiative to curate its members’ research works, the organizational archival materials, and other cultural resources. CALASYS uses Omeka, an open source web-publishing platform, to store, link, display, and exhibit its collections. During its development, several aspects of the platform have been significantly improved due to the effort of the CALASYS Group and the CALA members.
