Connecting People: An Exploration Of Building An Intranet Through Autoethnography, Christopher J. Martinez

This study examines the development and failure of an Intranet at a small company in Southern Illinois. Using autoethnographic methods, I analyzed the events surrounding the development and rejection of the Intranet by the organization's president. Using Burke's concepts of identification and mystery, I analyzed the relationship between the failure of the Intranet and the president's reasoning for not supporting its development. Throughout this study I evaluate the lntranet's development, the impact of other's involvement, as well as the impact that the design of the layout could have on communication at the Company. Speech delivered by WKU president Gary Ransdell at the National Governor's Association Center for Best Practices. In response to Governor Patton's challenges to create Programs of Distinction and enhance the state's capacity for economic development, we, at Western, have created a series of applied science centers. These centers are directing faculty talent toward creating a relevant curriculum in the sciences, toward solving environmental and material problems which limit economic development, and toward creating practice-based experiences for students. A by-product of these centers is a strengthened core curriculum which brings the applied sciences into focus for all WKU students.

Thanks to the popularity of Tiger Woods and other prominent professional golfers with diverse ethnicities and backgrounds, golf has gained a new patina of inclusivity. As a result, corporate golf outings have become more popular than ever before. For non-golfers, this may feel like it means more opportunities to be excluded from an elitist activity. For planners of corporate activities, it can mean a greater challenge to build inclusion into the equation. This article offers a middle-ground perspective on the ins and outs of golf outings.
