It examines the largely ignored impact white activists have had on the BLM movement and also explores the history of white activists in the abolitionist and Civil Rights movements. The climax details a highly-publicized spat between rival Black Lives Matter organizations that happened during a Dec. 4 protest to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Officer Daniel Pantaleo's non-indictment in Garner's death. Background: People experiencing serious illness have significant unmet physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. The Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) requires patients to be screened for emotional wellbeing and pain by their second oncology visit. This project details one cancer center’s quality improvement initiative to (a) implement electronic screening of every cancer patient by their second oncology visit, (b) design processes for ongoing assessment and intervention of need(s), and (c) develop measurable and sustainable evaluation metrics to ensure that palliative care needs are met. Thanks to a partnership between the Cedarville University School of Nursing and Department of Exercise Science, children in Springfield, Ohio will be getting a boost in health education and exercise activities.

The initiative will be led by Rachel Parill, Ph.D., associate professor of nursing, and April Crommett, Ph.D., associate professor of exercise science. Crommett and Parill, along with several Cedarville students, will work with the Springfield Promise Neighborhood to give better access to physical activities and health resources for children in low-income households.

Through the innovative Overseas Student Teaching Program (OSTOP), the Cedarville University School of Education is giving education majors unique experiences abroad.

Since its inception in 1972, OSTOP has sent almost 15 students overseas each year. This year, 13 students will get that opportunity, including Laura Tice, a senior social studies education major from Birmingham, Alabama.

Andrea Martinson, a biology major from Springfield, Ohio, and Amiah Warder, an environmental science major from Sheridan, Wyoming, area among just 13 students from an Ohio college or university to be awarded the 2015 Ohio EPA Environmental scholarship.

Cedarville University is the fifth most beautiful campus among all Christian colleges in the nation according to Christian Universities Online. Cedarville is the highest-ranked university in Ohio--Bluffton College (No. 24) and Mount Vernon Nazarene University (No. 46) were the only other Ohio universities on the list.

The ranking described Cedarville’s campus as being “set on a rural, 400 acre campus, the area has a classic college-town feel to it with a comfortable, natural setting.” The description also highlighted Cedar Lake and the compact, modern architectural style of the buildings.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Department of Theatre Arts will host its annual One Act Play Festival on Dec. 10-11 at 7:30 p.m. in Verser Theatre. The performances are free and open to the public.

The One-Act Play Festival is a required part of a senior level course for theatre majors. These seniors choose a play of their choosing, cast the actors and direct the plays. Auditions for these plays are open to anyone on the campus, so students from all majors have the opportunity to participate in the festival. This year’s festival includes nine different performances.

Proactive Communication: An Investigation Of Employee Reactions To Organizational Communication Problems, Katie Marie Reno

This study explored how employees proactively responded to perceived communication problems and what employees considered when proactively responding. The study utilized semi-structured interviews to gather data, resulting in 15 interviews. The interviews were transcribed yielding 130 single-spaced pages of data. Template analysis was used to code the data for themes. This analysis was chosen because it allowed the researcher to utilize previously established literature to develop a codebook, which could then be modified on the data.

The findings demonstrate that employees will enact many types of proactive behavior to correct perceived communication problems in an organization. Findings also demonstrated that …

Most newly licensed registered nurses go to work in acute care hospitals, which means they enter an increasingly complex healthcare environment where they experience staffing shortages, high nurse-patient ratios, and workplace violence. The purpose of this study is to attempt to understand the experiences of newly licensed registered nurses who have endured the early years of bedside hospital nursing and continue to work in their first nursing job. The existential phenomenological philosophy of Merleau-Ponty serves as the guiding framework for this qualitative research study. The language associated with President Nixon’s ‘war on drugs’ has sparked considerable debate in the political struggle against narcotics' abuse and crime, as well as within scholarly research. There is a language associated with the debate and it reflects the primary considerations of policy makers- economics, criminal behavior, and morality. The present study discusses these qualities as well as the rhetorical ideas of Richard Weaver, specifically his theory of ultimate terms. Then, discussions within research show the discontent that scholars bear towards narcotics'-related language. This qualitative study explored how bed and breakfast owners communicatively construct privacy while operating a business out of their personal home. One hundred eighty-two B&B owners from 20 U.S. states and 20 countries responded to an electronic qualitative questionnaire that, in part, explored the issue of privacy. Three themes emerged from the data, including: traditional organizational structures, perception of availability, and banking of time and space. These themes revealed that the owners of the nontraditional businesses relied upon recognizable organizational structures used in more traditional organizations to create and maintain private space and time. Especially in nonprofit business settings, mission statements can be an important way to provide goals and purpose for an organization’s staff. Creating and conveying mission statements to unify a staff whose tasks span a broad range is a difficult but important part of visionary leadership. Forensic coaches spend a large amount of time with their students and often struggle to find effective methods of motivation; however, studies have shown that teachers (Christophel, 1990) and athletic coaches (Turman, 2008) can use immediacy as a way to increase student/competitor motivation. This paper examines how forensic coaches can use a specific interpersonal tactic (self-disclosure) to potentially increase student motivation. The First Amendment prohibits any establishment of religion, a dicta that has been applied in an apparently inconsistent manner by the Supreme Court when called upon to evaluate various forms of verbal and nonverbal religious communication. Court decisions have approved religious prayers and displays in government settings. When such exercises and displays were introduced to the public school academic setting, the Court chose to disallow the practice. An examination of judicial opinions reveals that justices recognize three factors inherent to the academic setting which justify the apparently contradictory decisions.
