Remote and contingency operations, including military and disaster-relief activities, often require the use of temporary facilities powered by inefficient diesel generators that are expensive to operate and maintain. Site planners can reduce operating costs by increasing shelter insulation and augmenting generators with photovoltaic-battery hybrid energy systems, but they must select the optimal design configuration based on the region’s climate to meet the power demand at the lowest cost. Many manufacturing and service systems require a finite number of heterogeneous jobs to be processed by two stations in tandem. Each station serves at most one job at a time and there is a finite buffer between the two stations. We consider two flexible servers that are cross-trained to work at both stations. The duration for a server to finish a job at a station is exponentially distributed with a rate that depends on the server, the station, and the job. This article presents the modeling and solution of an extended type of split delivery vehicle routing problem (SDVRP). In SDVRP, the demands of customers need to be met by efficiently routing a given number of capacitated vehicles, wherein each customer may be served multiple times by more than one vehicle. Furthermore, in many real-world scenarios, consumption of vehicles en route is the same as the goods being delivered to customers, such as food, water and fuel in rescue or replenishment missions in harsh environments. There is an extensive literature on retrial queueing models. While a majority of the literature on retrial queueing models focuses on the retrial times to be exponentially distributed (so as to keep the state space to be of a reasonable size), a few papers deal with nonexponential retrial times but with some additional restrictions such as constant retrial rate, only the customer at the head of the retrial queue will attempt to capture a free server, 2-state phase type distribution, and finite retrial orbit. We present an English translation and discussion of an essay that a Japanese physicist, Torahiko Terada, wrote in 1922. In the essay, he described the waiting-time paradox, also called the bus paradox, which is a known mathematical phenomenon in queuing theory, stochastic processes, and modern temporal network analysis. He also observed and analyzed data on Tokyo City trams to verify the relevance of the waiting-time paradox to busy passengers in Tokyo at the time. This essay seems to be one of the earliest documentations of the waiting-time paradox in a sufficiently scientific manner.

Abstract: In consideration of the visual data and the data from the inertial measurement unit (IMU) having the different characteristics, the 6D pose of the visual sensor is recovered from the captured video by using the vision-based 3D reconstruction techniques, the obtained pose information and inertial measurements is fused via the spatial-temporal alignment, and based on the determined scale of the visual 3D reconstruction the non-contact measurement of a scene is performed. Abstract: In the traditional rectangular coordinate system, the human body characteristics can not match the differential equation. This leads to the low accuracy of the simulation results. A novel and compact interferometric refractive index (RI) point sensor is developed using hollow-core photonic crystal fiber (HC-PCF) and experimentally demonstrated for high sensitivity detection and measurement of pure gases. To construct the device, the sensing element fiber (HC-PCF) was placed between two single-mode fibers with airgaps at each side. Great measurement repeatability was shown in the cyclic test for the detection of various gases. The RI sensitivity of 4629 nm/RIU was demonstrated in the RI range of 1.0000347–1.000436 for the sensor with an HC-PCF length of 3.3 mm. In order to simulate the high-fidelity video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy, a VATS lobectomy simulator to realistically and efficiently simulate the different surgical operations during the VATS lobectomy procedure is developed. Abstract: Aiming at improving the accuracy of predicting the flight taxi-out time in a busy airport, based on the local regression and weighted support vector regression, a prediction model of the locally weighted support vector regression is proposed. Abstract: Aiming at the design requirements of the reconfigurable video array processor and the problem of traditional method testing the video codec system with slow speed, low precision and poor observability. A Qt-based user interface is developed, and a hardware-software co-testing platform based on FPGA is designed and implemented. The platform realizes the data transmission and image reproduction based on the software simulation on the PC side, and the parallel mapping of the video encoding and decoding algorithms based on the reconfigurable video array processor on the FPGA side. Abstract: Aiming at the equipment shortage, serious resource loss and hidden dangers in traditional horizontally oriented drilling rig training, a design scheme of the horizontally oriented drilling rig virtual training system based on the Unity3D is proposed. An experimental platform is built to verify the feasibility. The solidworks, 3dsMax model construction, Unity3D software virtual animation and scene development, Rodrigues rotation matrix 3D trajectory algorithm derivation, data acquisition (DAQ), system software and hardware communication and other technical content are used in the program. Abstract: A force/position hybrid control method for polishing the complex surface with an industrial robot is put forward. The method can achieve the stable force control and precise position control to ensure the consistency of the material removal rate at different normal vectors. Abstract: Aiming at the characteristics of the multivariable, strong coupling and large time delay of the grinding classification system, the improved inverse decoupling active disturbance rejection internal model control method is proposed. The inverse decoupling method is used to realize the decoupling of the grinding classification system, and the improved internal model control and linear active disturbance rejection control are adopted for the decoupled subsystem. Abstract: In order to deeply study the motion behavior of vehicles in the rear-end collision, a vehicle rear end collision accident model is established in the PC-Crash simulation environment. Considering with the relative velocity, offset, speed of the rear-end vehicle and wheel angle, the acceleration, yaw angle and yaw rate of the vehicle are obtained. Abstract: In the existing drug abuse dynamics models, the drug users are assumed to be permanent immune to drugs after rehabilitation and the possibility of the recovery drug users being susceptible again is neglected. To solve the problem, through the system dynamics (SD) method, the evolution process of the drug-related crowds is analyzed, and a relevant model based on the transient immunity is constructed.
