Zone Path Construction (Zac) Based Approaches For Effective Real-Time Ridesharing, Meghna Lowalekar, Pradeep Varakantham, Patrick Jaillet
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Real-time ridesharing systems such as UberPool, Lyft Line, GrabShare have become hugely popular as they reduce the costs for customers, improve per trip revenue for drivers and reduce traffic on the roads by grouping customers with similar itineraries. The key challenge in these systems is to group the "right" requests to travel together in the "right" available vehicles in real-time, so that the objective (e.g., requests served, revenue or delay) is optimized. This challenge has been addressed in existing work by: (i) generating as many relevant feasible (with respect to the available delay for customers) combinations of requests as possible …

A Hybrid Framework Using A Qubo Solver For Permutation-Based Combinatorial Optimization, Siong Thye Goh, Sabrish Gopalakrishnan, Jianyuan Bo, Hoong Chuin Lau
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
In this paper, we propose a hybrid framework to solve large-scale permutation-based combinatorial problems effectively using a high-performance quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) solver. To do so, transformations are required to change a constrained optimization model to an unconstrained model that involves parameter tuning. We propose techniques to overcome the challenges in using a QUBO solver that typically comes with limited numbers of bits. First, to smooth the energy landscape, we reduce the magnitudes of the input without compromising optimality. We propose a machine learning approach to tune the parameters for good performance effectively. To handle possible infeasibility, we introduce …

A Genetic Algorithm To Minimise Number Of Vehicles In An Electric Vehicle Routing Problem, Kiian Leong Bertran Queck, Hoong Chuin Lau
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Electric Vehicles (EVs) and charging infrastructure are starting to become commonplace in major cities around the world. For logistics providers to adopt an EV fleet, there are many factors up for consideration, such as route planning for EVs with limited travel range as well as long-term planning of fleet size. In this paper, we present a genetic algorithm to perform route planning that minimises the number of vehicles required. Specifically, we discuss the challenges on the violations of constraints in the EV routing problem (EVRP) arising from applying genetic algorithm operators. To overcome the challenges, techniques specific to addressing the …

Survey Of Airflow Around A Heated Manikin As A Simulated Aeromedical Evacuation Patient On A Litter With Computational Fluid Dynamics Models, George P. Lemmer
Theses and Dissertations
Aeromedical Evacuations remain the predominant method used to transport patients from forward deployed areas of operations to secure locations with more robust medical infrastructure. Transportation of chemical warfare casualties and infectious patients require additional attention to prevent cross contamination. Specific airflow characteristics paired with environmental control system settings are a gap in scholarly literature. Based on the available literature computational fluid dynamics models were created to simulate the airflow around a patient represented by human geometry using commercially available software. In order to compare simulated and experimental results a heated manikin was placed in the MURPHEE aerosol exposure chamber and …
A Comprehensive And Absolute Corporate Sustainability Assessment And Enhanced Input Output Life Cycle Assessment, Joseph M. Wright
A Comprehensive And Absolute Corporate Sustainability Assessment And Enhanced Input Output Life Cycle Assessment, Joseph M. Wright
Dissertations
Stresses due to economic activity are threatening to exceed environmental and societal limits with the potential to jeopardize local communities and create global crises. This research proposes new methodologies and analytic techniques to comprehensively assess corporate sustainability and enhance the efficiency of estimating environmental and social impacts with Input Output Life Cycle Assessment (IOLCA).
Sustainability assessments and management require consideration of both social and environmental impacts as outflows of economic activity. There are a number of assessment tools available to gain insight into environmental and social impacts; but in most cases, these approaches lack essential components for a comprehensive and …

Chemical Technology, Control and Management
The conceptual foundations of modeling multi-coordinate mechatronic modules of robots are considered. The use of a multi-coordinate mechatronic movement module in robots made it possible to obtain at the output of one module several linear and angular coordinates, which reduces the weight and dimensions of the robot and thereby improves its dynamic characteristics. The proposed original concept of the mathematical description of a multi-coordinate mechatronic module, which is focused on displaying their structural and operating features. A structural diagram of a developed industrial robot operating in a Cartesian coordinate system and built on the basis of a multi-coordinate mechatronic module …

Identification Of Transition Matrix Of Controlled Objects Under Parametric Uncertainty Condition, Uktam Farkhodovich Mamirov
Chemical Technology, Control and Management
The questions of formation and construction of algorithms for identification of elements of the transition matrix of controlled objects in conditions of parametric uncertainty are considered. To identify elements of the transition matrix, we suggest using a custom model based on the type of Kalman filtration equations. Algorithms for stable calculation of a pseudo-inverse matrix using matrix decomposition are analyzed. Regular algorithms for solving argumentative problems of minimization of the identification quality criterion are given. These algorithms allow us to regularize the problem of adaptive identification of the transition matrix of an object based on regular methods for minimizing functionals …

Structural – Parametric Analysis And Synthesis Of Glass Furnace Condition Observer, Utkir Uktam O‘G‘Li Kholmanov
Chemical Technology, Control and Management
A modified Kalman filter of the glass cooking process is synthesized, taking into account perturbations in the form of a sequence of colored noises. The possibility of expanding this filter by noise filters to improve functioning in the presence of low-frequency disturbances is studied and a corresponding estimation scheme with additional noise filters is proposed. The results of the simulation allow us to assume that low-frequency disturbances in the glass furnace act at the input and affect the state of the control object.
