During the high-speed and long-runout sliding failure process of large landslides, severe friction and heat generation in the sliding zone induce an interface friction effect between the debris flow and the bedrock, influencing the final accumulation morphology of the landslide. In this paper, a two-dimensional landslide model of the Yangbaodi landslide in Shenzhen was established using the material point method. A contact algorithm was introduced through a multi-background grid method to conduct numerical simulations on the initiation, sliding, and accumulation processes of the landslide. Dewatering prior to foundation pit excavation is a critical measure to prevent engineering hazards such as slope instability at the pit top, seepage around the pit, and bottom heave. As a key parameter in dewatering design, hydraulic conductivity directly influences the risk control in foundation pit engineering. Based on the east anchor foundation pit project of the Shiziyang Passageway, single-well pumping tests and stratified multi-well pumping tests were conducted. To investigate the mechanical properties and particle breakage effect of construction solid waste, a series of static and dynamic direct shear tests were carried out using a dynamic interface shear tester. Different coarse particle contents (40%, 50%, and 60%), amplitudes (45 kPa, 60 kPa, and 75 kPa), and frequencies (0.5 Hz, 1 Hz, and 2 Hz) were used as variables, and the variation rules of shear stress‒shear displacement curves, shear strength parameters, and particle breakage under three normal stresses (50 kPa, 100 kPa, and 150 kPa) were analyzed. In view of the shortcomings of traditional incremental launching calculation methods and the assembly construction control of incremental launching beams, an incremental launching calculation method based on nonlinear analysis was proposed in this paper. This method could truly simulate the running state where the incremental launching pier remains stationary, and the beam moves forward. To investigate the typical disease characteristics of energy transport channels in winter cold regions and guide the design for extending road service life, the causes of diseases such as pavement reflective cracks, continuous potholes on bridge decks, and failures of bridge drainage systems were analyzed based on the 20-year operation data of a 531 km in-service expressway in the coal energy region of northern Shaanxi. The research results indicate that when the asphalt pavement thickness reaches 22 cm, the reflective crack spacing of the expressway operated for 15 years can be controlled to over 50 m. Static pelican crossing systems often fail to accommodate the stochastic arrival patterns prevalent in high-density transit-oriented development (TOD) zones, creating operational inefficiencies between pedestrian clearance and vehicular flow. At the Cikini Station transit hub in Jakarta, existing fixed signal cycles contribute to pedestrian delays and peak-hour congestion. This study evaluates an adaptive signal control model for mid-block pelican crossings using a Deep Q-Network (DQN) algorithm. Transportation practitioners use crash modification factors/functions (CMFs) to calculate the number of crashes expected once a countermeasure has been implemented. When evaluating design alternatives, CMFs can be used in conjunction with safety performance functions (SPFs) to derive crash predictions. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) maintains the CMF Clearinghouse as a repository for CMFs. Contributions are submitted by researchers across the U.S., Canada, and throughout the world. Urban areas are increasingly exposed to natural hazards while accommodating a growing share of the global population, yet a consistent science-based framework for quantifying urban and community resilience remains lacking. This dissertation develops a physics-based analytical framework grounded in statistical mechanics and the quantitative theory of Brownian motion. A city is conceptualized as a complex medium in which citizens move analogously to Brownian particles within a viscoelastic environment, influenced by socioeconomic interactions and infrastructure functionality.

Although cybersecurity risks in transportation are widely recognized, much of the existing research remains mode-specific and lacks a standardized quantitative framework for comparing risk across transportation systems. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) uses AASHTOWare’s Pavement ME Design Version 3.0 (PaveME) to develop mechanistic-empirical designs for new and reconstructed pavements. Transfer functions used for estimating pavement distress in PaveME rely on national calibration values derived from the Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) database. However, these often fail to reflect Kentucky’s local conditions, materials, and practices. The number of pedestrian deaths increased by 78% between 2009 and 2023, while other motor vehicle crash deaths increased by 13% in the same period [1]. To identify potential pedestrian safety measures, this study analyzed the effects of location-based demographics, pedestrian phasing type, and other physical infrastructure and behavior variables on the probability of pedestrian-vehicle conflicts at signalized intersections, which is a surrogate measure of crash risk. These ICs are vulnerable to malicious hardware attacks, with hardware Trojans being one of the stealthiest threats. Trojans are malicious implants in the circuitry, which are often inserted during design or fabrication stages. This dissertation work investigated the structural performance of the 2nd Avenue Bridge in Detroit, Michigan, the first skewed, unbraced network tied-arch bridge in the U.S. The 245-ft long, 96.5-ft wide bridge features an 18-degree skew. The bridge was constructed using accelerated bridge construction (ABC) techniques, including off-site fabrication at a bridge staging area (BSA) and installation via self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) and lateral launching, enabling the completion of construction with minimal disruptions to I-94 traffic and improved safety.
