Barbara Reed, now in her eighties, is an individual who, for over fifty years, has been a leader in both children's drama and storytelling (for children and adults). It is because of her tenacious love of the performing arts that they flourish—albeit in some places more than others-for us today. Because of her, the imaginative lives of children and adults continues cyclically, each generation passing onto the next the rich experiences to be found in drama and storytelling.

A Midsummer Night's Dream--A Creole Creation: Directing Shakespeare In A High School Setting, Laurel Renee Kash
Master of Theater Production Graduate Projects
A full-length production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream was rehearsed and performed at Sunset High School in Portland, Oregon. The production was set in New Orleans during Mardi Gras in 1926. Research was conducted on Shakespeare's life, appropriate acting methods, and the play's historical and cultural context including lighting properties, setting, music, and costumes. Design concept statements were developed, the play was produced, and the experience was considered critically, both as an artistic production and as a learning experience.

The purpose of this project was to develop prototype lesson plans that connects and integrates musical and mathematical concepts at the 5th grade level. Both musical and mathematical concepts can be enhanced when studying the correlation between the two subjects. This project will provide lesson plans and activities using the Washington State Essential Academic Leaming Requirements as a basis for the concepts being taught. The goal of the project is to inspire teachers to use integration throughout the curriculum. The aim of this study is to examine the ability of students to produce the Form Three Art Folio in groups, as well as to study the effect of such group work on their ability to understand questions accurately and effectively. This study involves a sample of 38 Form Three students who underwent both a pre-test and a post-test. They were also tested as individuals and in groups. Findin&5 of this study show that group work does improve the ability of students in producing such a folio for art. This study may prove useful to teachers, students and the curriculum …

Art education theory and practice sees children as constructivist learners, but postmodern theory teaches us to see children with multiple and fragmented identities. Postmodern theory is used to examine childhood as a site of divergent discourses concerned with persistent adult attempts to control both actual children and the concept of childhood. Many alternative conceptions find pictorial form in the mass media, from abused child to nightmarish threat. This paper focuses on the idea of children as rabid consumers. It examines television advertisements aimed at children, especially by McDonald’s, Mattel and Cap Toys. Implications for the classroom as well as art …

The purpose of this project was to develop a model music curriculum for elementary-level students in Taiwan. With the current music curriculum utilized recently in Taiwan, this project will help the elementary-level students to develop their music potentials. In addition, teachers can educate students according to their level oflearning at different periods of time. To accomplish this purpose, a review ofrelated literature was conducted. Additionally, selected materials were obtained and adapted for use.

Examining Biases And Prejudices: Implications For Art Education, Shirley Hayes Yokley
Journal of Social Theory in Art Education
In this paper, I combine an overview of Elisabeth Young-Bruehl’s (1996) socio-psychological examination of group prejudices with a critical examination of artwork by Juan Sánchez to illustrate how issues-based studies of works of art help teachers and students examine and resist biases and prejudices that contribute to oppressive or hegemonic actions.
