Asserting Librarian Expertise And Value In Strategic Marketing Efforts, Memo Cordova, Elizabeth Ramsey Jul 2019

Asserting Librarian Expertise And Value In Strategic Marketing Efforts, Memo Cordova, Elizabeth Ramsey

Library Faculty Publications and Presentations

This case study of librarian-led marketing efforts at a mid-size academic library examines workarounds to obstacles that librarians frequently encounter when taking on marketing for their libraries. These obstacles often stem from a combination of misunderstanding and/or misplaced priorities at both the unit and administrative levels. Challenges in this case study include a number of factors: no marketing strategy at the administrative level, a lack of understanding from colleagues generally, little time to complete tasks or improve marketing skills, and no dedicated funding. To address these challenges the authors embarked on an internal marketing campaign engaged extensively on social media …

An Investigation Of Problem Gambling And Young Sports Players In An Irish Amateur Sporting Organisation., Maurice Murphy

Dept. of Management & Enterprise Conference Material

The gambling industry is huge in Ireland. The betting firm Paddy Power alone had an operating profit of €163.8million in 2014. The activity has become more popular and accessible in recent years due to its move online. In fact, anybody with a smartphone can gamble wherever they may be. While research within Ireland has been limited, there are some startling statistics related to gambling addiction in Ireland with roughly 7% of gamblers at risk of developing a gambling problem and approximately 30-35% of the gambling industry’s revenues coming from those who have gambling issues. According to the Institute of Public …

Matieralism Or Morality In Social Media, Which Matters Most? Insights From Millennials Luxury Consumption, Sukki Yoon, Virginia Vannucci, Lamberto Zollo, Riccardo Rialti

Marketing Department Faculty Journal Articles

"Social media are increasingly becoming a fundamental channel for every marketing strategy, particularly in advertising. The pertinent literature stresses how Millennials - the digital born generation very inclined to web interaction - represent one of the most relevant segments of social media users. Hence, firms are more and more using social media channels to engage Millennials, especially thanks to the use of mobile apps. Although Millennials do not represent the traditional target of luxury firms, social media might represent a useful strategic tool to reach them and also transfer the luxury brands’ image and value. While scholars widely investigated the …

Savoring The Product: A Look At The Impact Of Ai On Pre And Post Purchase Satisfaction, Sharmin Attaran, Moshen Attaran, Diane Kirkland

Marketing Department Faculty Journal Articles

The purpose of this paper is to examine some of the profound effects of Augmented Intelligence (AI) on Product, one of the “Four-Ps” of marketing: Product, Price, Place, and Promotion. Today’s customers are used to extreme convenience, beyond the brick-and-mortar shopping experience, and beyond online images. Customers increasingly demand more information, and more personalized information. This paper addresses how the presentation of products has changed. This paper is conceptual, based on a review of academic literature on marketing strategy, psychology, AI, and Machine Learning as chronicled in major marketing and business research journals.

Squeezed Out Of The Marketplace: Legal And Policy Issues Pertaining To Airline Seating Configurations, Daniel Friedenzohn, Stephen Shrewsbury Jul 2019

Squeezed Out Of The Marketplace: Legal And Policy Issues Pertaining To Airline Seating Configurations, Daniel Friedenzohn, Stephen Shrewsbury

Publications

The quality of airline service in the United States has received a significant amount of attention since the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 went into effect. Much of that attention has been negative due to efforts by the airlines to find ways to increase revenue by charging for services that were once included in the price of a ticket, such as charging for checked luggageI and other add-on fees for passengers. 2 Given the high level of competition during much of this period, it was certainly expected, and to some extent understandable, that carriers would attempt to find new revenue …

Mapping Consumer Cognition And Emotions: A Neuroscientific Approach, Dongjun Rew Jul 2019

Mapping Consumer Cognition And Emotions: A Neuroscientific Approach, Dongjun Rew

Theses and Dissertations

Although the rival theories for consumer decision making process, cognitive perspective and experiential perspective, have successfully contributed to the marketing discipline, there is an alternative point of view that cognition and emotions work together for a decision or even a behavior. However, the methodological limitation has been a big hurdle that interrupts insightfulness and fruitfulness of marketing research, especially in consumer research. This study thus aims to develop a brain map and functional connectivity of consumer decision making and emotions to show physiological and neurological evidence that emotional behaviors and cognitive behaviors are associated when consumers decide a behavior by …

Retail Format Selection In On-The-Go Shopping Situations, Sabine Benoit, Heiner Evanschitzky, Christoph Teller Jul 2019

Retail Format Selection In On-The-Go Shopping Situations, Sabine Benoit, Heiner Evanschitzky, Christoph Teller

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Consumers patronize different store formats to purchase products. Prior literature describes store and format choices for big, multi-item shopping baskets, but limited insights determine consumers' unique shopping routines when they seek to buy just one or a few items while on the go. Such shopping situations might affect consumers' format selections for both search and experience goods. This study uses multi-attribute utility theory to develop a framework, tested with a scenario-based experiment. For search goods, a format's economic utility (price level, speed) is more important; its functional utility (quality, variety) and psychological utility (atmosphere, service) become less important considerations. Furthermore, …

Two Essays On The Consumer Acculturation Process – A Need For And Development Of A Consumer Acculturation Measure, Kristina Marie Harrison Jul 2019

Two Essays On The Consumer Acculturation Process – A Need For And Development Of A Consumer Acculturation Measure, Kristina Marie Harrison

Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration

The United States is becoming increasingly multi-cultural and there are various new immigrant consumer groups that businesses try to reach through ethnic-based segmentation and targeting. Often, businesses offer accommodation strategies to their ethnic consumer groups through language or other cultural accommodation tactics. There are inconsistencies in the literature for the efficacy of ethnic-based targeting and accommodation strategies: often these do not have the desired results and there is evidence that ethnic identification may be fading over time for many immigrant groups.

There is evidence that acculturation may be a better predictor of consumer behavior such as preferences for brand, services, …
