Interdependence, Punitive Capability, And The Reciprocation Of Punitive Actions In Channel Relationships, Nirmalya Kumar, Lisa K. Scheer, Jan-Benedict E. M. Steenkamp May 1998

Interdependence, Punitive Capability, And The Reciprocation Of Punitive Actions In Channel Relationships, Nirmalya Kumar, Lisa K. Scheer, Jan-Benedict E. M. Steenkamp

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Using data from automobile dealers in the Netherlands, the authors find that dealers' punitive actions toward their key suppliers are affected by their perceptions of their own and their supplier's interdependence and punitive capabilities, as well as by the supplier's punitive actions. Punitive actions are affected by interdependence, but a more complete picture is achieved by also examining punitive capability. The authors test hypotheses based on bilateral deterrence, conflict spiral, and relative power theories, but none of these comprehensively explains the effects of both total power and power asymmetry. Dealer punitive actions are inhibited as total interdependence increases, but are …

Export Carrot Production Capability Study, Dennis Phillips

Horticulture research reports

A survey was conducted by personal interview of nearly 80 per cent of Western Australian export carrot growers to determine the range of business profiles and production practices prevailing in the industry in 1996-97. The study provided significant information which the industry can use to guide future development and to benchmark its performance.

The industry was characterised by a high level of Australian ownership and a healthy mix of family and corporate ownership and vertical integration. Capital investment in production was high, potentially inhibiting new entrants to the industry.

Threats to future industry growth were identified in an ageing management …

Fisheries Management Report No. 4 - Planning For The Further Development Of The Aquaculture And Marine Farming Industry At Jurien Bay, Dave Everall

Fisheries Published Reports

There is a well documented global requirement for some twenty million tonnes of edible sea foods from aquaculture in the next fifteen years. Most of the projected increase in production will need to be from mariculture because of limiting factors on land based aquaculture. At present, approximately 85%of all aquaculture occurs in the Asian region.

Globally, temperate water species have market advantages because of their ability to supply a growing market preference for a firm white fleshed fin fish. Although significant temperate water aquaculture occurs in various countries north of the equator, there are growing environmental concerns surrounding production of …

The Convenience Orientation Of Services Consumers: An Empirical Examination, Patricia Kramer Voli Apr 1998

The Convenience Orientation Of Services Consumers: An Empirical Examination, Patricia Kramer Voli

Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration

The growth of the convenience industry suggests that time-scarce consumers represent an important potential target market for firms that offer time and/or effort saving attributes in their product offerings. The research contained herein addresses a gap in the marketing literature by examining a proposed series of relationships involving household expenditures for "convenient services." These proposed relationships were captured in a "Conceptual Framework of Convenient Services Consumption" which synthesized the various existing theoretical conceptualizations relating to convenience consumption and the number of factors said to influence consumers' convenience orientation. Specifically, this study sought to profile the convenience oriented services consumer by …

Measurement Of Perceived Service Quality Of Selected Dental Specialists, David P. Paul Iii Apr 1998

Measurement Of Perceived Service Quality Of Selected Dental Specialists, David P. Paul Iii

Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration

Although consumers find it difficult to evaluate the quality of healthcare services in general and dental services in particular, they do make such evaluations. The most widely accepted measurement scale for service quality is SERVQUAL (Parasuraman, Zeithaml and Berry 1988). A more parsimonious alternative to SERVQUAL, SERVPERF, has also been developed (Cronin and Taylor 1992). Previous research comparing these two scales in the setting of adult patients of general dentists concluded that SERVPERF accounts for significantly more of the variance in perceived service quality than does SERVQUAL (McAlexander, Kaldenberg and Koenig 1994). This dissertation extends this line of research to …

Foreign Market Entry Mode Choice Of Service Firms: A Contingency Perspective, Ikechi Ekeledo, K. Sivakumar Jan 1998

Foreign Market Entry Mode Choice Of Service Firms: A Contingency Perspective, Ikechi Ekeledo, K. Sivakumar

Department of Marketing Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Research on how service firms choose their initial mode of operation in foreign markets appears to have led to two contradictory conclusions. Findings from one group of studies suggest that factors determining entry mode choice by manufacturing firms are generalizable to service firms. Findings from another group of studies contradict that view. The authors reconcile the two views by means of a classification scheme that allows some services to be grouped with manufactured goods in terms of entry mode choice. A conceptual model of factors affecting the entry mode choice of service firms is proposed, research propositions are developed, and …

Urban Freight Mobility: Collection Of Data On Time, Costs, And Barriers Related To Moving Product Into The Central Business District, Anne G. Morris, Alain L. Kornhauser, Mark Kay

Department of Marketing Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Just-in-time deliveries and lower inventories have led to more frequent deliveries of goods and services, markedly increasing urban congestion. The Goods Movement in the New York Metropolitan Area study's goal was to develop a research methodology for capturing urban freight mobility data and to collect cost and time data on freight moving into New York City's central business district (CBD). The methodology developed and its implementation are discussed. Problems with access and collecting data from industry executives are also addressed. In industry-sector focus groups, senior logistics executives discussed urban freight mobility issues, especially barriers to goods movement into the CBD. …

It's Not What You Make, It's The Way That You Say It: Reflections On The Design-Marketing Interface, Paul O'Sullivan Jan 1998

It's Not What You Make, It's The Way That You Say It: Reflections On The Design-Marketing Interface, Paul O'Sullivan

Articles

Good design is a cornerstone of marketing. Design is an important variable in every aspect of marketing activities- products, processes, packaging and communications. Yet this topic attracts little attention in the marketing literature and there is, one suspects, very little cross-fertilisation between marketing and design disciplines. This paper puts design on the agenda for both marketing academics and practitioners as well as providing a review of what is embraced within the broad subject of design. Some observations on the history and role of design in an Irish context are offered also.

Confounds In The Measurement Of Predictive Expectations, Richard A. Spreng, Robert Mackoy, Cornelia Dröge Jan 1998

Confounds In The Measurement Of Predictive Expectations, Richard A. Spreng, Robert Mackoy, Cornelia Dröge

Scholarship and Professional Work - Business

Given the importance of predictive expectations in consumer satisfaction models, confounds in the measurement of expectations could result in misspecified models. Results of two empirical studies indicate that consumers interpret the word "expect" in numerous ways. A large minority of consumers interpret "expect" to mean "desire." The magnitude of the resulting confounding effect is illustrated by comparing results using a measure of expectations alone with results obtained when using a measure of expectations together with a measure of desires in a side-by-side format.
