Writing Intensive Courses In Theatre, Alisa Roost
Writing Intensive Courses In Theatre, Alisa Roost
Publications and Research
Most professors believe writing matters. Through writing our students are better able to synthesize ideas, communicate those ideas, and make connections across fields. While it can take significant time to grade all the assignments, it can threaten coverage of material, and our students rarely appreciate it, writing assignments can be crafted to reduce grading, add depth to coverage, and spark interest. What follows is an overview of how I incorporate writing into my theatre courses and some ways of crafting engaging writing-intensive courses.

The Phenomenology Of Büchner's Woyzeck: Historical And Critical Problems In The Ongoing Adaptation, Jonathan W. Myers
The Phenomenology Of Büchner's Woyzeck: Historical And Critical Problems In The Ongoing Adaptation, Jonathan W. Myers
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Georg BUchner is considered by many to be the father of 20th century drama, despite his death in 1837 at the young age of 23. His legacy is visible in any contemporary survey of the history of theater. The origins of the styles and techniques of Naturalism, Expressionism, Theater of the Absurd, Existential Drama, Theater of Alienation, Theater of Cruelty, Socialist theatre, and documentary drama may all be feasibly traced to BUchner's own innovative themes and playwriting techniques. His final manuscript Woyzeck remained incomplete at his death, leaving what would become a dramaturgical puzzle for the theater scholars of each …

Beginning with an overview of the historical development of dance and dance education in the United States, the study closely examined the current cultural, educational, and political structures, functions, and mechanisms which influence prevailing public views of this …

Pocahontas Reclaimed: The Powhatans' Theatrical Rebuttal To Disney's Revisionist Myth, Barbara E. Gardner
Theses and Dissertations
This study compares the content of play The One Called Pocahontas to the Walt Disney film Pocahontas. The author examined the accepted history of the Powhatan woman known as Pocahontas in relation to the "infotainment" provided by both the play and the movie. The study examines the objections to the Walt Disney movie Pocahontas and poses them as motivating factors for the Powhatan tribe's decision to use theatre to respond to the inaccuracies they perceived in the movie. The primary research methods of the study include an analysis of existing literature and internet sites about Pocahontas, an interview with …

The purpose of this paper is to present different approaches to starting a theatre company in Chicago based on the experiences of two young companies, First Folio Shakespeare Festival and Rivendell Theatre Ensemble. This will also provide general knowledge for anyone who may consider starting a company and additional resources for that individual to use. Chicago was the optimal choice for this project as it is located near IIlinois Wesleyan University's campus, has an active and varied theatre industry, and is a place where alumni have started theatre companies.
To accomplish this project, the general environment of the Chicago theatre …
