Els Paisatges Europeus De Carles Batlle, Sharon G. Feldman
Latin American, Latino and Iberian Studies Faculty Publications

Review Of Inge Nielsen, Cultic Theatres And Ritual Drama In American Journal Of Archaeology, On-Line Reviews, Vol. 111.1:, Kenneth S. Rothwell Jr.
Classics & Religious Studies Faculty Publication Series
Nielsen has done us a great service by collecting the considerable evidence for cultic performance spaces in Egypt, Mesopotamia, Syria, Phoenicia, Asia Minor, Crete, Greece, Sicily, and Italy. A table (340–41) gives an index of the 58 bestpreserved theaters, but dozens of others are discussed as well. Although some of the theaters could also have been used for “secular” literary drama, this volume focuses on cultic use. Nielsen’s observations should be of great interest to students of theater, religion, and ancient architecture.

The Pedagogy And Ethics Of Improvisation Using The Harold, David Dellus Patton
The Pedagogy And Ethics Of Improvisation Using The Harold, David Dellus Patton
Theses and Dissertations
Scenic improvisation is dramatic performance without a script. Performers develop scenes in real time in front of an audience. They do this by submitting to a set of rules of relating on-stage which allow them, by mutual assent, to develop scenes and stories based on their relationships with one another. This methodology by which improvisers develop their scenes can give us a tangible vocabulary and model by which we can fulfill the requirements of love. The Harold, an improvisational form created by Del Close and Charna Halpern and taught and performed at IO (formerly ImprovOlympic), emphasizes this relational ethic as …

As Robert Wilson suggests "I will always ask 'What is it?' before telling you what it is." My goal is to present you with some tools with which to approach your craft, your life, your uncertainties. And though I may not always be the best example, I still wish to encourage all that read this or spend time with me to see this craft/business and indeed your life as a great, happy adventure; guided by love. Cinematography And Choreography: "It Takes Two To Tango", Laura Boynes
Cinematography And Choreography: "It Takes Two To Tango", Laura Boynes
Theses : Honours
As a practicing dancer and choreographer with a developing interest in film, the lifelong struggle (where many have gone before) to capture and accurately depict choreography on screen, intrigues me.
Who should dance the camera or the choreography? These are questions that have been pondered by choreographers and theorists for centuries, with pioneers such as Busby Berkeley and Maya Deren each finding their own answers to success.
This thesis discusses the creation and production of dance film, and the importance of movement in front of and behind the camera lens. I believe experimentation and research are the most effective methods …
Peforming Louisiana: The History Of Cajun Dialect Humor And Its Impact On The Cajun Cultural Identity, Debrah Royer Richardson
Peforming Louisiana: The History Of Cajun Dialect Humor And Its Impact On The Cajun Cultural Identity, Debrah Royer Richardson
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Cajuns, the descendants of the Acadian diaspora begun in 1755, chose to live a largely isolated existence in Louisiana until elements in the nineteenth century began concerted efforts to assimilate the Cajuns. By the beginnings of the twentieth century, the dual challenges of enforced schooling and the prohibition of spoken French affected the Cajun sense of pride. Around the same time, outsiders (satirists from Louisiana who were not of Cajun descent) used the Cajun dialect, in publications and on the radio, to humorously skewer Louisiana politics. Over the last century, Cajun dialect humor has evolved along specific lines that have …

The Implantation Of Western Theatre In Korea: Hong Hae-Sǒng (1894-1957), Korea's First Director, Saejoon Oh
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
While Korea experienced the threats of imperialist powers in the 19th century, and Japanese colonial rule in the early part of the 20th century, many Korean intellectuals expressed their nationalism through efforts to implant Western culture for the modernization of the Korean nation. They believed such activities would help to realize enlightenment and industrial development, the major conditions for assuring the independence of Korea and the survival of the nation. This attitude became known as Cultural Nationalism. The establishment of modern Korean theatre participated in the movement of Cultural Nationalism. Many leaders of Korean theatre tried to implant Western modern …

Lost In Translation: Making Sense Of Dance Through Words, Paul T. O'Sullivan
Lost In Translation: Making Sense Of Dance Through Words, Paul T. O'Sullivan
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
The aim of this paper is to enter into the debate about meaning and movement and challenge the idea of dance as linguistic communication. Without words, and even with words according to some linguistic theorists, it's not possible to make sense unless we come to an agreement about a set of shared concepts. This is difficult in dance, an art form that has been silent, but undergoing evolutionary change for a large part of its history. I take the point of view that performance movement is even more arbitrary than text as a form of signification. We can read words …

El Motivo En La Ciencia Literaria: Del Formalismo Ruso Al Estructuralismo Genético, Miguel Ángel Zamorano
Teatro: Revista de Estudios Escénicos / A Journal of Theater Studies
This article presents two divergent structuralisms approaching the literary event: Russian Formalism and the Linguistic Circle of Prague with a linguistic orientation …

"Locus Del Ser": Numeración Y Precisión Formal En Las Obras De Samuel Beckett, Robert Scanlan, Diego Santos Sánchez
Teatro: Revista de Estudios Escénicos / A Journal of Theater Studies
This paper presents the «locus of being» model for dramaturgical analysis, a method that establishes a distinction …
