Manuscript Collection

The collection consists of Dr. Bryant’s professional and organizational files, biographical data, correspondence, and speeches. Most of the material relates to her publishing efforts, her work as a faculty member at Brooklyn College, and her involvement with professional organizations, especially the New York branch of the American Association of University Women. Most of the material extends form 1950-1975. A list of the more prominent individuals who corresponded with Margaret Bryant has been included as an appendix to the inventory. An impressive amount of recent critical work has dealt with the philosophic element in Voltaire's tragedies. His plays have been labelled a theatre of involvement and a theatre of ideas; they have been examined from the standpoint of propaganda and as tragedy. However,the focus of such studies has been primarily on Voltaire's message or on the meaning of the plays, rather than on the dramatic structure he created to convey his philosophic concerns.

El proposito del presente ensayo sobre la novela El dia sefialado, es iniciar un estudio a fondo de la obra de Manuel Mejia Vallejo (n. 1924-), considerado hoy como uno de los mejores novelistas colombianos, y, sin lugar a dudas, como el mejor cuentista nacional. A pesar de que El dia sefialado es ganadora del Premia Nadal en 1963, parece ser que aun los criticos de la novela hispanoamericana no le han prestado a Mejia Vallejo la atcncion que si le han dedicado a otros autores contemporaneos del escritor.

The eye witnesses against MacArthur were members of the Truman Administration. Acheson and Marshall were the principal critics of MacArthur’s stand. Secretary Acheson testified that MacArthur had done a fine job in Japan and our allies agreed without policy there. Acheson replied to the alleged lack of policy by making a distinction between our policy and our war aims. Our policy in Korea looked to a unified, independent democratic government, but our war aim was to stop the attack on South Korea. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the various methods of word-formation in the English language, to ascertain which methods are active in the post-World War II of today, and decide, if possible, which methods are coming into increasing use and which methods are temporarily out of favor.

For this study materials over a seventeen -year period 1939-1956 were consulted, and then the war words which seemed to find no permanent place in the language were discarded. Many of the war words were retained, however, if the seemed to fill a continuing need.

Pour savoir jusqu'à quel point Corneille se servit des oeuvres de Plutarque, de Suétone, et de Tacite, il sera utile de se rappeler que la pièce commence au moment où le héro, Othon, ayant été l'ami de Néron, éprouve le besoin d'un protecteur.
