The research questions in this essay ask whether or not the Nebraska State Archives contains literature in the Russian and Spanish languages. These documents, and others written in English on the same topic, are introduced and analyzed throughout the essay, exploring the history of immigrants from Russia and Latin America. As well as history, the documents delve into the current state of these immigrant groups, and how their traditions have changed Nebraska and continue to influence it today. This dissertation looks at the creation and dissemination of alternative versions of English history through the means of dramatic fiction, and contextualizes them in the panorama of the intellectual debates of seventeenth-century Italy. Staging English Affairs in Early Modern Italy studies the ways in which the reinvention of Tudor and Stuart affairs in dramatic literature mirrored the ambitions, fears, and fantasies of a century in disquieting transformation. This research documents how news and information from England entered the Italian states, how they were perceived, and what their repurposing can reveal about the potentialities of intercultural exchange. Since the death of fascist dictator Francisco Franco in 1975, Spain has witnessed one of the greatest explosions in its real population in the nation’s history, brought about by extensive migrations from Africa and the Middle East. The increasing presence of immigrants, particularly from predominantly Muslim-countries, has forced Spain to reflect on its own idiosyncratic past of coexistence and violent exclusion between Catholics and Muslims. This exposition investigates how Spain’s unique history has produced a confusing atmosphere for Muslim migrants, who profess a deep kinship towards the country, but who are systematically marginalized by Spanish immigration law.

Dans son roman, Leila : Avoir 17 ans dans un camp de harkis, Dalila Kerchouche retrace le parcours de ceux dont la jeunesse fut passée/gâchée dans les camps de la relégation. In El general en su laberinto, García Marquez offers a critique of the historical process and examination of the methodology of history as a discipline in several interrelated dimensions. Central to a vision of the novel as "historiographic metafiction" are the author's disclosure of his own methodology in compiling the story of Bolivar an the relationship between oral versions and written documents within the fiction itself.

This thesis was assigned by the Department of German principally to learn through the study of the German newspapers of the day what influence the German-American population of Indiana might have had upon the election of Governor Conrad baker and also upon his whole administration as such; since Governor Baker was of German descent and the act, August 16, 1859, which provided when the German language should be taught in the common schools, also took effect when Baker was Governor of Indiana.
