The real capability of Desktop Publishing (DTP) is the ability it gives the user to quickly design an entire document, complete with type and graphics, see it accurately on the screen, proof it on a laser printer, then typeset the entire page ready for printing, the same computer file, at a fraction of the time and cost required before. This study was carried out to determine the impact of desktop publishing on the printing industry in the state of Kansas. A desktop publishing lab to serve education and industry involves a multiple of problems not the least of which is defining what it is and how it is used by individuals, business and the printing industry. Desktop publishing is a method whereby an individual can at will produce computer generated material, at his or her desktop, that is camera-ready for reproducing in a chosen manner and then distributed for the public's information. The term was coined in 1985 by Paul Brainerd, president and founder of Aldus Corporation, makers of one of the first pagination programs, PageMaker.

The two purposes of the research were to determine if differences existed between the perceptions of Iowa graphic arts manufacturers and Iowa graphic arts educators regarding current (1988) and future (1993) employment needs for skilled production workers and management and sales personnel, and to identify selected characteristics of manufacturers and educators in attempting to meet employment needs. Recruitment Practices Influencing Enrollment Of Four-Year Undergraduate Students Who Specialize In Graphic Arts, Joseph George Gindele

The purpose of this study was to identify recruitment practices and other selected factors that could be utilized to increase undergraduate student enrollment in three types of graphic arts programs: education, technology, and management. The study involved graphic arts faculty and students in 76 colleges and universities in the United States.

Six instruments were used to secure data. These included two preliminary devices, three faculty opinionnaires, and one student opinionnaire. Each faculty opinionnaire focused on one of three graphic arts programs and contained a list of 32 recruitment practices. This Honors thesis sets out to examine some significant aspects of corporate trademark design. The thesis will provide an analysis of a corporate trademark program, focusing on the recent trademark change by The Krystal Company. I wish to point out early in the paper that certain features of Krystal's design program, such as uniform, package, and architectural design were reviewed only briefly. Materials include correspondence, teaching samples, class lecture notes, 2-D and 3-D studio technique posters, student papers, and original artworks. Of particular note are documents pertaining to Bak’s work on the window for St. John’s Abbey in Collegeville, Minnesota, and the 1980 biography written by his son, Clemens R. Bak.

In lieu of the traditional thesis, I have chosen to culminate the Master of Arts in Related Arts program with a creative project and a paper that describes and evaluates the completion of the project. The project involved a personal aesthetic and technical development of the aesthetic in graphic design and communications. Documentation of the creative arts project is presented in a portfolio which includes graphic designs, publications, and news feature stories. The project is interdisciplinary in that it involves skills in art (design) and English (writing) as well as effective interdisciplinary communication skills necessary to produce interdepartmental publications.
