Quiescin sulfhydryl oxidase 1 (QSOX1) is a disulfide bond-forming enzyme with both disulfide isomerase and oxidoreductase activities. It plays an important role in protein folding, stability, and secretion. Growing evidence demonstrates that QSOX1 is upregulated in multiple cancer types and influences key behaviors of cancer cells, including proliferation, migration, invasion, and metastasis. Elevated QSOX1 expression is also associated with tumor malignancy and disease relapse. However, the molecular mechanisms by which QSOX1 drives cancer progression remain incompletely understood. Aromatase inhibitors are widely used in the treatment of hormone-sensitive breast cancer, but their suppression of estrogen production accelerates bone loss, increases fracture risk, and negatively impacts muscle and fat metabolism. Here, we demonstrate that daily low intensity vibration, serving as a non-drug mimetic for exercise, protects musculoskeletal health in skeletally immature, female mice under complete estrogen deprivation. Subsequent improvements in vertebral bone density are paralleled by greater and leaner skeletal muscle mass and function alongside reduced fat accretion and circulating metabolites. Social signals about current environmental risks can shape development in young animals. Distress calls made by young chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus) may also encode affective state, with high arousal, potentially ‘anxiety-like’ state characterized by continuous calling, and learned helplessness or potentially ‘depression-like’ state by a more intermittent pattern. During early life (age 4–7 days), we played chicks artificial stimuli mimicking these two call patterns. Growth effects suggest caller affective state can modulate this social signal: chicks exposed to bouts of ‘Continuous’ calls grew faster and were heavier by late commercial life (day 43) than Controls. BACKGROUND: Quantitative coronary CT angiography plaque analysis (QCCTA) is a novel tool for atherosclerosis detection.

OBJECTIVES: The authors examined utilization of a health plan offering of QCCTA to diabetic members and the impact of utilization on health plan costs.

METHODS: Diabetic health plan members ≥40 years without prior myocardial infarction were offered QCCTA as a pilot benefit. Benefit utilizers were compared to eligible nonutilizers for incident cardiovascular episodes of care post-notification of eligibility.

RESULTS: Over 14 months, 2,064 of 38,079 health plan members were identified as eligible. Utilizers (19.1%) were predominantly White (76.4%) and female (72.6%) residing in communities with …

Tractography is a key component of efforts to map brain connectivity. As a rapidly evolving field of neuroscience, current tractography methods are diverse, often varying across research laboratories and different software pipelines. Therefore, it suffers from a lack of standardization, leading to inconsistencies in results, which can limit reproducibility and affect the robustness needed for research and clinical applications of these methods. Context: Current practice guidelines recommend considering a diagnosis of maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) in patients with diabetes with an affected parent but without typical features of type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Objective: To test if these criteria apply to a real-world cohort of racially/ethnically diverse children with diabetes.

Methods: We performed a retrospective case review of electronic medical records of youth diagnosed with MODY in a large academic pediatric hospital in Southwestern United States. Cases were ascertained based on the identification of a molecular diagnosis of MODY.

Marine cold-spells are an understudied phenomena which can both negatively impact marine wildlife and provide thermal refugia for species displaced by climate change. The IpsiHand™ System is an FDA-authorized, non-invasive therapy for chronic stroke-induced upper limb motor impairment that uses a brain-computer interface (BCI) to translate intent-to-move signals into hand movement. This retrospective study evaluated real-world outcomes in stroke survivors ≥ 6 months post-stroke who were prescribed IpsiHand™ and completed regular Upper Extremity Fugl-Meyer (UEFM) assessments as part of routine care. Objectives: Post activation potentiation (PAP) is the phenomenon where muscle force-generating capacity during explosive activities increases after sustained activation. Alternatively, fatigue refers to the decrease in muscle force-generating capacity following sustained activation. The level to which muscles are fatigued or potentiated may influence whether performance is enhanced or decreased. While PAP has been well-documented in able-bodied athletes, few studies have examined PAP in athletes with spinal cord injuries (SCI). Grassroots Governance And Resilience: The Role Of Barangay Disaster Communication Amid Political Uncertainty, Karl Lenin Calaramo Benigno, Elsie Pilar, Yolanda Sabado-Lao

This study examines the role of barangay-level communication in disaster preparedness and response amid political uncertainty, focusing on Ilocos Norte, Philippines. Specifically, it investigates how comprehension of disaster warnings and COVID-19-related terms affects citizens’ compliance, and how demographic and barangay-related factors moderate this relationship. A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving surveys of 44 respondents (household heads, barangay officials, and Sangguniang Kabataan officers) and key informant interviews to document communication practices, sources of information, and community trust. Statistical analysis revealed a strong positive correlation (r = 0.843, p < 0.001) between comprehension and compliance, highlighting the critical role of understanding in disaster response. Findings also show that traditional communication channels, such as barangay announcements and personal networks, remain central, while political uncertainty can indirectly undermine trust and affect message adherence. Youth participation via SK initiatives contributes to information dissemination but requires enhanced resources and training. This study contributes novel insights by integrating statistical evidence, qualitative analysis, and political context to explain the dynamics of grassroots disaster communication. Policy recommendations include capacity-building, hybrid communication strategies, participatory governance, youth engagement, and integration of political risk into preparedness planning, aimed at enhancing resilience and adaptive capacity in local communities.

perkembangan ovarium akibat gangguan pertumbuhan pada ayam, kerusakan ovarium atau akibat penyakit. Penelitian ini dirancang untuk mengisolasi, mengidentifikasi, dan karakteristik bakteri penyebab infeksi ovarium pada ayam petelur komersial. Sejumlah 19 sampel ayam petelur komersial yang diperoleh dari tiga peternakan di wilayah Yogyakarta. Ongole (PO) disilangkan dengan Simmental, menghasilkan keturunan sapi Simmental Peranakan Ongole (SimPO) yang memiliki keunggulan bobot lahir tinggi dan pertumbuhan yang cepat. Sapi SimPO (Fenotip) F2 diduga mengalami penurunan performan reproduksi sehingga tingkat kebuntingan menjadi rendah. Keberhasilan kebuntingan dapat terjadi apabila oosit dapat terfertilisasi. Masa kosong merupakan indikator utama kebehasilan usaha sapi perah yang sangat terkait pada pendapatan peternak. Tingkat pendapatan yang berhubungan dengan masa kosong dapat berasal dari jumlah

perkawinan yang menghasilkan kebuntingan, kesehatan serta produksi susu. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui asosiasi masa kosong terhadap produksi susu yang efek selanjutnya terhadap pendapatan yang diperoleh peternak. Derajat kesehatan itik menentukan daya tahannya terhadap penyakit. Status heterofil dan limfosit menunjukkan kemampuan tubuh itik untuk menetralisasi agen infeksi sehingga jumlah heterofil dan jumlah limfosit itik menunjukkan derajat kesehatan itik tersebut, sedangkan rasio H/L dapat digunakan untuk menentukan adanya stres fisiologis akibat adanya infeksi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat status heterofil dan limfosit serta rasio H/L pada itik Pengging, itik Tegal dan itik Magelang, sehingga dapat digunakan sebagai acuan dalam menentukan tingkat produktivitasnya. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk melakukan evaluasi terhadap nilai pemuliaan (NP) pada calon pejantan sapi Aceh sebagai pejantan unggul berdasarkan performans keturunan selama tahun 2010 sampai 2013. Sapi Aceh yang diikutsertakan dalam penelitian ini, masing-masing dengan nomor A001, A004, P0751 dan P0752. Analisis data dilakukan berdasarkan performans berat sapih terkoreksi 205 hari (BB205), berat setahunan terkoreksi 365 hari (BB365) dan berat akhir atau dewasa terkoreksi 550 hari (BB550) hasil keturunan keempat calon pejantan tersebut.
