Background: Asymmetrical joint space narrowing occurs in many cases of knee osteoarthritis (OA). The objective of the present study is to elucidate the biomechanics of lateral wedges in shoes used to widen the medial joint space in predominantly medial OA, and the biomechanics of medial wedges in shoes used to widen the lateral joint space in predominantly lateral OA. Per-/polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent organic pollutants commonly used in non-stick, oil-resistant, and water-proof food packaging as well as textiles; they are detected in more than 99% of human serum. Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), one of the most ubiquitous PFAS, is associated with altered lipid metabolism, immunotoxicity, and neurodevelopmental disorders. These outcomes all implicate microglia, resident macrophages in the brain critical for development and sensitive to lipid signaling, as key mediators of toxicity. However, developmental effects of PFOS on microglia are not well-characterized, nor is it clear how PFOS alters microglial inflammatory responses. This study examined whether family relationship quality and communication with parents during stressful situations were associated with mental health among urban immigrant adolescents. Guided by Lazarus and Folkman’s transactional model of stress and coping, I used secondary data from the Stress and Learning Study, which surveyed 78 immigrant adolescents in Chicago Public Schools (ages 11 to 14) at two time points approximately 7-9 months apart. Continuous blood pressure monitoring is essential for intraoperative hemodynamic management, particularly in patients with cardiovascular comorbidities or procedures associated with significant hemodynamic shifts. Invasive arterial catheterization remains the standard for continuous monitoring but carries risks including infection, thrombosis, and hematoma. The ClearSight system (Edwards Lifesciences) is a noninvasive finger-cuff device that provides continuous beat-to-beat blood pressure monitoring using a volume clamp method. This case involved a 67-year-old female with multiple cardiovascular and metabolic comorbidities undergoing revision shoulder arthroscopy in the beach chair position who refused preoperative arterial line placement. The project involved developing and implementing an educational program to raise awareness, prevent workplace bullying, and effectively respond to it among healthcare staff. Workplace bullying harms physical and emotional well-being, reduces productivity, increases absenteeism, and increases turnover. Black women experience intimate partner violence (IPV) at disproportionately high rates, yet most research has focused on those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, overlooking how educated Black women navigate relationships after IPV. While extensive studies have examined the health consequences of IPV among Black women, less attention has been given to their experiences with intimacy, trust, and partner selection post-IPV. Background/Objectives: Unhealthy lifestyles lead to chronic low-grade inflammation, increasing the risk of colorectal cancer. Few studies in East Asia have examined the association between the dietary inflammation potential and colorectal cancer incidence. Therefore, we aimed to investigate this association further in the Japanese population. Methods: This study included 38,807 men aged 45–74 years who participated in the Japan Public Health Center-based prospective study (JPHC Study). The energy-adjusted dietary inflammatory index (E-DII) was derived from a food frequency questionnaire. INTRODUCTION: The Standardized Letter of Evaluation (SLOE) is a core component of emergency medicine (EM) residency applications, designed to assess clinical performance, professionalism, and leadership potential. While its utility in selecting residency candidates is well established, its association with future leadership roles, such as chief resident, remains unclear. Identifying early indicators of leadership potential could inform both recruitment and resident development efforts. Coastal communities, like Tampa Bay, face growing compound hazards as tidal flooding and extreme temperatures increasingly co-occur. Tidal flooding is shallow, recurring inundation during routine king tides and intensifies in frequency and extent with sea level rise. In some instances, its cumulative impact on infrastructure and daily life can amount to that of a major hurricane over time (Moftakhari et al., 2018).

Background: Light-to-moderate alcohol consumption has been linked to improved insulin resistance and lower type 2 diabetes (T2D) risk predominantly in females but not males. Potential mechanisms underlying this sex difference remain unclear.

Objective: This study evaluated associations of sex-specific alcohol-associated metabolomic signatures (AMSs) with insulin resistance and T2D risk in US Hispanic/Latino adults.

Methods: We analyzed serum metabolome data in the HCHS/SOL, a prospective, multicenter, community-based study of Hispanics/Latinos, aged 18 to 74 years old, enrolled from four U.S. metropolitan areas between 2008 and 2011. Marine cold-spells are an understudied phenomena which can both negatively impact marine wildlife and provide thermal refugia for species displaced by climate change. To develop forward-looking and climate-ready management schemes, it is critical to examine how marine species respond to cold-spells, how long-term warming will affect marine cold-spells over the next century, and how these future cold-spells will in turn affect species of conservation concern, particularly in marine protected areas. In the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, the idea of alienation took hold across the United States as a way of explaining feelings of disconnection, powerlessness, and meaninglessness that seemed to be pervading American society. This was no less true on college and university campuses, where students engaged in protest over both government action and inaction and a new youth counterculture took root. What led to alienation’s prominence as a social phenomenon is a matter of some debate, as are the causes of its precipitous decline in the early 70s. This dissertation investigated the phenomenon of a significant, acute, externally-driven crisis event on university resilience at four-year, tuition-driven, public and private higher education institutions in the United States of America. The study primarily considered the resilience indicators of university undergraduate enrollment and financial stability through the crisis context of COVID-19. The dissatisfaction with democratic processes and the low participation rates we see trending in cities around the world, have inspired practitioners to experiment with new democratic practices. Scholars of participatory democracy have argued that when people participate in one democratic activity, they are more likely to engage in other activities. Therefore, this project clarifies the expectations set for a specific type of process, called Participatory Budgeting (PB). Revisiting Collective Efficacy: Insights From Cognitive Interviews And Experimental Surveys, Tori Kay Olson

This three-part study revisits the collective efficacy scale developed by Sampson and colleagues in the 1990s to see if the scale needs updating. Defined as community cohesion and social control, collective efficacy is often used in community research to explain crime rates. The first phase uses cognitive interviews to understand how survey respondents interpret the original collective efficacy survey. The interview data then helps create new versions of the ten questions in the second phase. In the third phase, ChatGPT generates a revised version of the collective efficacy scale.
