Observations by the Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization, and Ices Explorer (SPHEREx) are combined with counterpart Spitzer spectral map data to study the aromatic, aliphatic, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) size evolution across the northwest photodissociation region (PDR) of the Iris Nebula (NGC 7023). The 3.3–3.4 μm complex (I_3.3) and 11.2 μm (I_11.2) PAH band strength are determined through direct integration. In addition, the former is decomposed into a 3.3 (I_3.3) and 3.4 μm (I_3.4) subfeature by fitting SPHEREx bandpass-integrated photometry using a modeled, highly sampled, multicomponent …

Both U.S. and certain international taxpayers are eligible to utilize the free services, which will run on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6:30–9:30 p.m. beginning January 26 and continuing through March 24. Services will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in Room 121 on the first floor of the Law School, located at 211 South Indiana Avenue in Bloomington.

A lawyer and client must be able to communicate about the client’s legal affairs in confidence for the lawyer to be able to meaningfully advise the client, hence courts’ recognition of the attorney-client privilege. Fundamentally, the very term “attorney-client privilege” seemingly requires a lawyer’s participation in a communication for the privilege to attach. But, in fact, lawyers need not always participate in client communications for the attorney-client privilege to shield the communications from discovery. Objectives: We aimed to investigate the effects of 6 weeks of leucine supplementation on athletic performance, central fatigue, and serum metabolome in endurance athletes, and to provide valuable insights into nutritional strategies for endurance athletes. Methods: Twenty cross-country skiers were recruited and randomized into 2 groups: the placebo (PLA) group and the leucine (LEU) group. Subjects were given leucine (8.5 g) + sucrose (14 g) or only sucrose (14 g) supplements twice each day from Monday to Saturday for 6 weeks. Test parameters include body composition, aerobic capacity, isokinetic muscle strength, blood biochemistry, and targeted metabolomics. Results: After intervention, compared …

“Liturgies of the Self: Contemporary American Cult Fiction, Identity, and Narrative Evangelism,” examines how American novels from 1980 to the present stage cultic logic as a cultural grammar of belonging. Across two cohorts—1980–2000 and 2001–present—the project demonstrates how narratives of consumerism, violence, embodiment, race, and simulation reveal identity as liturgical performance rather than autonomous selfhood. The first cohort—Don DeLillo’s White Noise (1985), Chuck Palahniuk’s Fight Club (1996), Bret Easton Ellis’s American Psycho (1991), Douglas Coupland’s Generation X (1991), and Katherine Dunn’s Geek Love (1989)—dramatizes cultic rituals through spectacle, grotesque display, and overt performance. A Point-Cloud Data Analysis Framework For Early Deformation Detection, Avinash Pandey

Frost heave and thaw-related deformation threaten the performance of roads, runways, embankments, and buried utilities in cold regions, yet traditional inspections remain reactive and often miss early uplift. This study evaluates the capability of LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) to detect small-scale ground deformation and introduces a practical point-cloud framework designed for early-stage characterization. Controlled jack-lift experiments quantified handheld LiDAR accuracy at uplift increments of 6.35, 12.7, 19.05, and 25.4 mm, with corresponding detection accuracies of 88%, 86%, 93.33%, and 94%. Registration quality had a significant impact. The targetless scans showed slight misalignment, whereas spherical targets provided precise, repeatable outputs. …

This oral history dissertation centers the experiences of six Black women who had formative experiences navigating hostile school and community-based settings on Staten Island during the 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s. Guided by a conceptual framework that draws on Black orality, Black feminist thought, and endarkened feminist epistemology, this study demonstrates how Black women were required to cross geographic and social boundaries to survive hostile conditions in Staten Island communities and schools. Findings from this study highlight Black women’s use of community cultural wealth to inform their survival strategies and resilience. At the same time, their experiences indicate the potential …

Population Health Research Brief Series

Gun violence worsened substantially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This brief summarizes findings from a study using weekly gun violence casualty data from 2016-2021 for 304 U.S. counties from the Gun Violence Archive and COVID-19 policy data from county-level measures of activity restrictions and masking requirements. The authors find that policies requiring masking and activity restrictions were associated with significant increases in gun violence. Indoor masking requirements were linked to a 28% increase in gun violence, while activity restrictions were associated with a 4.2% increase.

Living donor kidney transplantation (LDKT) is the most effective treatment for patients with end-stage kidney disease; however, living donation rates have remained suboptimal over the past two decades. As a result, many interventions have been developed and tailored to increase living donation. The Living Donor Navigator (LDN) Program is one effort designed to help transplant candidates identify potential living donors and guide them through the donation process, using a combination of advocacy and systems training. This work addresses key questions relating to the end of the Cold War. Contemporary wisdom suggests that Ronald Reagan’s policies beat the Soviet Union into submission, but this is not the case. Reagan’s initial policies were antagonistic towards the Soviet Union and his devotion to SDI later harmed his ability to establish relations with Michail Gorbachev later on. This thesis argues that it was George H.W. Bush, rather than Reagan, who was the more influential and effective President when dealing with the Soviet Union. Bush’s diplomacy was less idealized and more realistic than Reagan’s. Additionally, Bush was able to successfully …

Both Sjögren’s disease and glaucoma are known to have abnormal corneal biomechanics that impact their disease progression. The pathophysiology of Sjögren’s disease may also increase the likelihood of developing glaucoma. However, we do not yet know whether the prevalence of risk factors associated with glaucoma in Sjögren’s patients is due to underlying weakened corneal biomechanics. Oculus Corvis ST will be used to evaluate the corneal biomechanics in Sjögren’s patients in relation to the inflammatory mediators in the tear film. Phenotypic switching of smooth muscle cells (SMCs) from a contractile to a synthetic state underlies the pathogenesis of several cardiovascular disease (CVD) pathologies, including restenosis and atherosclerosis. Leiomodin 1 (LMOD1), an SMC-enriched actin-binding protein, has been previously found to regulate SMC phenotypic modulation in vitro. However, its contribution to CVD development and progression, along with its influence on gene regulatory networks (GRNs) that inform underlying responses to stress, remains incompletely defined. Triage is a critical function of emergency nursing practice, directly influencing patient safety, flow, and outcomes in the emergency department (ED). Despite widespread use of standardized triage training and resources, triage accuracy among ED nurses remains suboptimal. The purpose of this three-manuscript dissertation was to examine factors associated with triage accuracy in the ED setting. Manuscript One was an integrative literature review of 14 studies published between 2011 and 2021, with reported triage accuracy rates ranging from 59.3% to 82%.
