The antifraud provisions of the federal securities laws are statutory sledgehammers. Those who violate them can face severe sanctions, including ruinous monetary penalties and others that can effectively bar firms and individuals from the securities industries. The Securities and Exchange Commission is authorized to enforce these provisions with the full weight of the federal government. And the SEC does so vigorously.

Inclusion in Postsecondary Education

Many college students with disabilities face invisible barriers that go beyond access to ramps or extra time on tests. This study asked: How do students with disabilities actually feel in higher education? Do they feel safe? Do they feel like they belong? Do they feel liked?

Six students at a small private university shared their stories and took photographs over several weeks, using a method called Photovoice. These images, combined with interviews, reveal how deeply ableism and exclusion impact their sense of safety, belonging, and worth.

The study used polyvagal theory, which explains how our nervous systems respond to environments. …

Inclusion in Postsecondary Education

The enrollment of students with disabilities in postsecondary education has continued to increase (U.S. Government Accountability Office, 2024). Nevertheless, these students’ stories often remain invisible. This Photovoice project centers the voices of students with disabilities in postsecondary education and uses polyvagal theory (Porges, 2011, 2021) to understand the importance of considering the nervous system when seeking to create and sustain inclusive higher education spaces.

This study revealed the ways the participants’ nervous system experienced life as college students with a disability, organized around the themes of their perceptions of felt safety, of belonging, and of being liked. Findings from this …

This document-based case study explains how land-use change along the Catawba River Corridor (Lancaster and York Counties, South Carolina) has been produced through the interaction of property rights (dominium) and rule-setting authority (imperium), showing why sovereignty continues to shape development even after land disputes appear “settled.” Through analyzing legal records (Treaty of Nation Ford, the 1959 Catawba Division of Assets Act, the 1986 Supreme Court timing decision, and the 1993 Settlement Act), planning documents, parcel records, and field observations, we trace how shifting jurisdiction and title certainty structured what kinds of land uses were possible and when. In this post-foreclosure holdover, the landlord sought possession of a condominium unit from an occupant who was not a tenant. The landlord acquired title through a referee's deed after a foreclosure sale. The occupant argued the foreclosure was a legal nullity, rendering the landlord's title invalid, and also raised defenses of defective service, retaliatory eviction, and harassment. The court rejected the occupant's standing challenge, finding the foreclosure judgment and deed valid, as the prior court's "nullity" finding was limited and did not vacate the judgment. Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is a mosquito-borne zoonotic orthoflavivirus that poses a significant global health threat. It causes severe neuroinflammatory disease in humans and reproductive failure in swine. Because of the broad host range and cell tropism of JEV, identifying animal cell lines resistant to infection has been a persistent challenge. In this study, we demonstrate that Madin–Darby bovine kidney (MDBK) cells are resistant to JEV infection yet remain fully permissive to viral replication when transfected with viral genomic RNA. Using immunoblotting, immunofluorescence, and flow cytometry, we show that MDBK cells, unlike the highly susceptible baby hamster kidney (BHK-21) cells …

Reduced winter hair shedding in beef cows through the spring and summer months may contribute to heat stress and reduced performance in spring-calving herds. This study evaluated the relationship of hair shedding with the fertility and maternal performance of 72 Dexter cows. Hair shedding data for 20 May, 3 June, 17 June, and 1 July in 2019 were used to classify cows as high or low hair shedders. Hair shedding levels were lower (p < 0.05) for 2-year-old cows than for cows 7+ years of age for the first three dates and lower (p ≤ 0.05) for lactating cows than for dry cows on the first two dates. Concurrent and four years of historical performance records were used to assess the associations between hair shedding and cow–calf performance. Data from 230 natural matings in July and August from 2015 to 2019 were analyzed. Birth to weaning weight data were recorded from 2016 to 2019 on 124 spring-born calves. Cow fertility was higher (p < 0.05) for high-shed cows than for low-shed cows for the 1 July classification. When the records from cows that were dry in 2019 were excluded from testing, fertility was higher (p < 0.05) for high-shed cows than for low-shed cows at all four scoring dates. The associations of cow hair shedding levels with preweaning calf performance were minimal. Dexter cows exhibiting higher hair shedding levels in the spring and summer expressed higher summer fertility.

INTRODUCTION: This study assessed the changes in functional connectivity from resting functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) given N-Acetylcysteine (NAC), the prodrug to L-cysteine and a precursor to the natural biological antioxidant glutathione (GSH). The aim of this study was to determine whether NAC is associated with changes in functional connectivity, particularly in the basal ganglia, and improvements in Parkinson's symptoms.

BACKGROUND: While delivery of supplemental oxygen is a life-saving therapy, exposure to high oxygen, called hyperoxia, leads to increased intensive care unit mortality. Hyperoxia induces oxidant-mediated acute lung injury (ALI) and pulmonary cell death, called hyperoxic ALI (HALI). Elucidating molecular mechanisms in HALI could identify therapeutic targets in ALI.

Observations by the Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization, and Ices Explorer (SPHEREx) are combined with counterpart Spitzer spectral map data to study the aromatic, aliphatic, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) size evolution across the northwest photodissociation region (PDR) of the Iris Nebula (NGC 7023). The 3.3–3.4 μm complex (I_3.3) and 11.2 μm (I_11.2) PAH band strength are determined through direct integration. Both U.S. and certain international taxpayers are eligible to utilize the free services, which will run on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6:30–9:30 p.m. beginning January 26 and continuing through March 24. Objectives: We aimed to investigate the effects of 6 weeks of leucine supplementation on athletic performance, central fatigue, and serum metabolome in endurance athletes, and to provide valuable insights into nutritional strategies for endurance athletes. Methods: Twenty cross-country skiers were recruited and randomized into 2 groups: the placebo (PLA) group and the leucine (LEU) group. Subjects were given leucine (8.5 g) + sucrose (14 g) or only sucrose (14 g) supplements twice each day from Monday to Saturday for 6 weeks. “Liturgies of the Self: Contemporary American Cult Fiction, Identity, and Narrative Evangelism,” examines how American novels from 1980 to the present stage cultic logic as a cultural grammar of belonging. Across two cohorts—1980–2000 and 2001–present—the project demonstrates how narratives of consumerism, violence, embodiment, race, and simulation reveal identity as liturgical performance rather than autonomous selfhood. The first cohort—Don DeLillo’s White Noise (1985), Chuck Palahniuk’s Fight Club (1996), Bret Easton Ellis’s American Psycho (1991), Douglas Coupland’s Generation X (1991), and Katherine Dunn’s Geek Love (1989)—dramatizes cultic rituals through spectacle, grotesque display, and overt performance. A Point-Cloud Data Analysis Framework For Early Deformation Detection, Avinash Pandey

Frost heave and thaw-related deformation threaten the performance of roads, runways, embankments, and buried utilities in cold regions, yet traditional inspections remain reactive and often miss early uplift. This study evaluates the capability of LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) to detect small-scale ground deformation and introduces a practical point-cloud framework designed for early-stage characterization. Controlled jack-lift experiments quantified handheld LiDAR accuracy at uplift increments of 6.35, 12.7, 19.05, and 25.4 mm, with corresponding detection accuracies of 88%, 86%, 93.33%, and 94%. Registration quality had a significant impact. The targetless scans showed slight misalignment, whereas spherical targets provided precise, repeatable outputs. …
