Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains one of the deadliest malignancies, with a 5-year survival rate of just 13%. While the development and early clinical use of small molecules targeting oncogenic KRAS mutations, key drivers of PDAC, have shown promise, resistance to these targeted therapies remains a significant challenge. We recently identified Syndecan-1 (SDC1), a highly expressed heparan sulfate proteoglycan, as a critical KRAS effector protein that promotes nutrient salvage and tumor growth. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) exhibits heterogeneous treatment responses, yet molecular subtypes based on predefined biological pathways show limited prognostic value. We introduce tumor-specific total mRNA expression (TmS), a pathway-agnostic deconvolution metric derived from matched RNA/DNA sequencing, as a robust stratification tool. Analyzing 575 TNBC patients across Western and East Asian populations, TmS outperforms established subtypes in predicting chemotherapy outcomes, stratifying patients into high TmS with favorable prognosis and low TmS with poor prognosis. Stromal enrichment with immune exclusion emerges as a universal feature of chemotherapy-resistant low-TmS tumors across all cohorts. Importance: The management of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in preterm infants is controversial.

Objective: To determine whether expectant management compared with active treatment of a protocol-defined PDA in preterm infants decreases the incidence of death or bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD).

Design, setting, and participants: A randomized clinical trial including infants born at 22 to 28 weeks' gestation and diagnosed with a protocol-defined PDA between the age of 48 hours and 21 days at screening. The trial was conducted from December 2018 to December 2024 at 33 hospitals within the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Neonatal Research Network. The …

In this holdover proceeding concerning an HDFC, the Civil Court of the City of New York granted the tenant's motion for summary judgment, dismissing the case. The landlord sought to evict the long-term tenant, alleging good cause based on consistent failure to pay rent. However, after applying DRIE credits, the landlord's records only showed three months of unpaid rent totaling $1,500 from 2020. The court, citing precedent and emphasizing the affordable housing purpose of HDFCs, found that this minor, unpursued debt from several years prior did not constitute good cause for eviction. The tenant's counterclaim for harassment was severed.

PURPOSE: Low-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (LGSOC) is a distinct form of ovarian cancer characterized by younger patient age and relative chemoresistance. The GOG281/LOGS trial (NCT02101788) investigated the efficacy of the MEK inhibitor trametinib compared with physician's choice standard-of-care (SOC) in patients with LGSOC with persistent/recurrent disease. The study demonstrated significantly improved progression-free survival (PFS) in the trametinib-treated arm.

Optimization of prophylactic vaccine regimens to elicit strong, long-lasting immunity is an urgent need highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Stronger vaccine immunogenicity is frequently reported in individuals living in high-income countries compared to individuals living in low- and middle-income countries. Bacterial dissemination across tissues is a critically important process influencing infection outcomes. Monitoring within-host dissemination is challenging because conventional measures of bulk bacterial burden cannot distinguish between lineages that are shared between tissues and those that replicate locally. This limitation can be overcome using barcoded bacteria, where deep sequencing of the barcode locus and comparisons of barcodes between tissues define which lineages spread within the host. Numerous studies have used barcoded bacteria to generate high-resolution maps of dissemination. The Relationship Between Mindful Awareness And Acculturative Stress For International Undergraduate Students In America, Nandini Narula Bajpai, Mary Stone

International Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities

This study examines mindful awareness and its role in acculturative stress experienced by international undergraduate students in American colleges. Data from 101 students from 37 countries attending 35 colleges revealed a significant negative correlation between mindful awareness and acculturative stress (r[99] = -0.51, p < 0.001). Higher mindful awareness predicted lower general acculturative stress and specific subdomains. These findings aim to refine cultural adaptation frameworks and inform evidence-based support systems for international students.
