Exploring Sexual Health Literacy And Information Needs: A Qualitative Study Of Disadvantaged Youths In A Thai Welfare School, Chanat Paktanyasit, Suchita Sukonthasub

Background: Disadvantaged youths in Thailand are left critically exposed to sexual health risks due to systemic informational barriers that have been largely unaddressed by research. This qualitative study aimed to investigate the sexual health literacy and information needs of disadvantaged youths.

Method: The research utilized purposive sampling for in-depth interviews with 16 disadvantaged students at Rajaprajanugroh 58 School in Nonthaburi Province, Thailand and a focus group discussion with 10 of their teachers. Data was collected in August 2025.

Background: Balanced iron and ferritin levels are essential for many biological functions; unfortunately, smoking may disrupt these levels. The objective of this study was to investigate the association between smoking status with serum iron/ferritin levels among Jordanian adults.

Method: Participants were classified as active, passive, or non-smokers. Blood samples were analyzed to measure serum iron and ferritin levels. Statistical tests assessed differences in these levels among smoking groups.

Results: The study included 247 participants (25-64 years old). Active and passive smokers exhibited higher median iron/ferritin levels compared to non-smokers. But these differences were not statistically significant (iron: p=0.128, ferritin: …

Scutellarin, a flavonoid glycoside primarily derived from Scutellaria baicalensis, has garnered increasing scientific interest for its multifaceted pharmacological properties. This review summarizes recent advances in our understanding of scutellarin's therapeutic effects, including its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, cardioprotective and anticancer activities. Emphasis is placed on elucidating its molecular mechanisms of action, such as modulation of the NF-κB, Nrf2, and PI3K/Akt pathways, and its role in regulating oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. Additionally, we discuss formulation innovations, including nanoparticle and liposomal delivery systems, aimed at overcoming scutellarin's poor oral bioavailability and enhancing therapeutic performance. The goal of the Southern Ocean Fronts and Eddies project (SOFE) is to measure and diagnose ocean eddy heat fluxes in the lee of the Southeast Indian Ridge (SEIR) in the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC). This location stands out as one of the major ACC eddy flux hot spots and as a region where the three ACC fronts converge closely together as they encounter the ridge complex. This article introduces askancing as an epistemic strategy for the Global South to challenge the Global North’s construction of the Global South’s alterity. Askancing is a neologism we propose by engaging with Jacques Lacan’s speculations on the gaze as it pertains to the construction of “the other.” We argue that this strategy of askancing might already be implicit in postcolonial theories, from the notion of the subaltern, through “decoloniality,” to “ecologies of knowledge.” Central to askancing—and contrary to the decolonial call for an epistemic break with modernity—we agree with Dipesh Chakrabarty’s assertion that modernity’s rational discourse is both “indispensable and …

School social workers practice in a post-COVID-19 educational context where anxiety, depression, and emotional dysregulation are closely associated with chronic absenteeism among middle school students. This practice problem is central to clinical social work because distress-based avoidance is often misinterpreted as defiance, resulting in punitive responses that intensify disengagement. The purpose of this doctoral project was to explore how school social workers perceive and respond to the interconnected dynamics of student mental health and chronic absenteeism following COVID-19. Following a comprehensive review, the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) has developed an official position on the role of dietary antioxidants in exercise and sport. Antioxidants play a complex, context-dependent role in vivo; they can facilitate recovery from exercise but may also hinder training adaptations when consumed at supraphysiological doses. While endogenous antioxidant systems can effectively maintain redox balance, dietary sources, particularly whole foods, can help mitigate excessive oxidative stress following intense/heavy training or inadequate recovery. Dr. George Sturgeon was a chemistry professor at the University of Nebraska -Lincoln for 39 years, from 1964 to 2003. During his time at UNL, he spent 15 years as the vice chair. Something in his youth must have sparked an interest in chemistry because he earned a bachelor’s in that subject from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Then, he traveled 870 miles east to Michigan State University in East Lansing where he earned his doctorate. Animals must balance behavioral goals with the energetic costs of movement. How such trade-offs are implemented algorithmically during natural behavior, and how they adapt to changing energetic constraints, remains poorly understood. Here we show that larval zebrafish adjust their motor strategies during prey hunting to minimize energy expenditure. Using high-speed video tracking and 3D computational fluid dynamics simulations, we quantified the energy costs (in Joules) of different movement types across three developmental stages. While the structure of discrete movement types ("bouts") remained stable with age, their selection probabilities changed depending on their energetic cost, such that more expensive bouts were …

Objectives: This review aims to examine the overall effects of e-cigarettes on oral health, including its associations with xerostomia, dental caries, periodontal disease, and oral cancer.

Methods: A systematic review was conducted using databases like PubMed, ScienceDirect, NIH, and MDPI, analyzing many studies published between 2010-2025. Inclusion criteria consisted of peer-reviewed human and in-vitro studies that evaluated the oral effects of e-cigarettes. Studies were screened for correlation to caries formation, salivary changes, mucosal alterations, microbiome disruptions, and carcinogenic potential.

Results: A total of fifteen studies were included. Findings across studies showed that e-cigarettes reduce salivary flow rates and …

Antimicrobial resistance in food–animal environments threatens sustainable production and public health, yet small farms remain poorly characterized as potential reservoirs of antimicrobial resistant bacteria. To address this, we investigated the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance profiles of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., and Enterococcus spp. from small-scale cattle farms in Tennessee, USA. Methods: Over one year, 153 environmental samples (soil, manure, water) were collected from 17 farms. Target bacteria were isolated and confirmed using selective agar, biochemical tests, and PCR, and tested against 12 antibiotics using the Kirby–Bauer disk diffusion test. Background A more nuanced understanding of behavioural responses to incentives over time, particularly after they are removed, could guide more effective interventions. In this study, we build on the primary trial evaluation to explore the dynamic effectiveness of small, short-term monthly financial incentives on HIV care-seeking behaviours during and after incentive removal.

Methods We conducted a 32-site cluster-randomised controlled trial (NCT04201353) among adult antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiates (< 30 days) in four regions of Lake Zone, Tanzania. HIV care and treatment clinics were randomly assigned 1:1 to the intervention (up to 6 monthly cash transfers of 22 500 TZS each (~US$10), conditional on appointment attendance) or standard of care. Using time-to-event analysis, we assess the effect of incentives on three HIV-care seeking behaviours: missed appointment by >4 days, < 90% ART adherence and interruption in treatment of >28 days.

Results Among 1990 participants, we found large significant reductions in rate of missed appointments (hazard ratio (HR), 95% CI: 0.51, 0.39 to 0.68), < 90% ART adherence (HR, 95% CI: 0.58, 0.41 to 0.83) and interruption in treatment (>28 days without …

This article examines how the principle of non-waivability in labour law is being systematically eroded for migrant workers. It argues that a fundamental tension exists between labour law — which seeks to protect and empower workers — and migration law — which prioritises the welfare of citizens, instrumentalises migrant labour, and seeks to limit redistribution of a nation’s resources, benefits, and opportunities to non-citizens. The article demonstrates how consent-based arguments, rooted in migration law, are used to justify the exclusion of non-citizens from otherwise non-waivable labour protections. By analysing legislative, judicial, and policy decisions, it reveals how these arguments contribute …

Dengue virus (DENV) is a mosquito-transmitted flavivirus that circulates globally as four distinct serotypes and poses a substantial threat to public health. There are an estimated ~96 million symptomatic infections yearly, including severe cases of dengue fever, underscoring the urgency of identifying effective therapeutics targeting all four serotypes. Nucleoside analogs, which mimic endogenous nucleosides to inhibit viral RNA replication, offer a promising strategy for broad-spectrum antiviral development.
