Pseudomonas Aeruginosa: A Rare Cause Of Necrotizing Fasciitis, Carrine S. Kogulan, Oluwafemi Ajibola

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rare but life-threatening soft tissue infection characterized by rapid progression, systemic toxicity, and high mortality. While Group A Streptococcus is the most common pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an uncommon cause, typically reported in immunocompromised patients.

We present the case of a 77-year-old male with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), chronic kidney disease, and other comorbidities who initially presented to an outside facility with three days of fever and left lower extremity pain. He was admitted with presumed cellulitis, and blood cultures grew Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Despite appropriate antibiotic therapy with vancomycin and ceftriaxone, the patient developed …

Biological threats present unique challenges to traditional deterrence models due to their dual-use nature, difficulties in attribution, and rapidly evolving scientific landscape. In this commentary, the authors argue that deterrence by denial, while essential, is insufficient on its own to address contemporary biothreats. They propose a broader framework that integrates deterrence by disruption and capability diminishment to interfere with and reduce adversaries’ ability to develop and employ biological weapons. This approach emphasizes coordinated efforts across scientific, technological, economic, intelligence, and policy domains, as well as collaboration with public health and international partners. Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases in Indonesia that is closely related to obesity. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the association between central obesity and hypertension in a cohort study group in Bogor City, West Java from 2011 to 2021. A retrospective cohort study design was employed, with multivariate Cox regression analysis performed using secondary data from the Risk Factors for Non-Communicable Diseases (FRPTM) Cohort Study. Among 3,586 samples, 879 incident cases of hypertension were observed by the end of follow-up, accounting for 24.5% of the at-risk population. Mitchell and colleagues (Reference Mitchell, Haslam, Burke and Steffense2026) provide a well-reasoned, sound, and thought-provoking case for why HR practices can promote or discourage narcissistic tendencies in leaders. Acknowledging their contribution, we offer two points of pushback and one point of extension based on those areas of pushback. The first point of pushback is that counter to the authors, we contend that hypercompetitive selection methods that seek to identify the best leadership candidate, although not ideal, are necessary. Business leaders are concerned when project outcomes are misaligned with organizational objectives, as this can lead to decreased profitability and a loss of competitive advantage. Grounded in Porter’s Five Forces model, the purpose of this qualitative, pragmatic inquiry was to explore the strategies business leaders use to ensure project outcomes are profitable and aligned with organizational objectives. Background: Wearable fitness trackers have become a valuable tool in public health research due to their ability to collect large-scale, individual-level data at a low cost. This study examines the historical impact and representation of the Hephthalites in the context of the Vahaneanc uprising (482-484), a Christian rebellion against Sasanian rule in South Caucasia, as described in the work of Ğazar Pʿarpetsʿi, a 5th-century Armenian historian. Pʿarpetsʿi’s records of the events have been evaluated in comparison with other primary historical sources and attempted to be understood within the historical context of the period. This study is based on Grabarca’s critical edition, which relies on the 1891 Venice edition and the 1904 Tiflis edition of the work. This descriptive-phenomenological study examined the role of mentorship in shaping identity. There is limited literature that examines mentorship as an identity-shaping process among Black queer men (BQM). Intersectional and Black queer theory provided the theoretical framework for thematic analysis.

Within the workplace, BQM must negotiate the effects of double marginalization resulting from racism and anti-queer biases. The effects of racism and anti-queer biases can lead to adverse psychological and physical health outcomes, negatively impacting the careers of Black and queer individuals. The purpose of this disablement model case study was to outline a collegiate baseball player with an isolated hamate fracture including the injury evaluation, diagnosis, and acute management. During a tournament game, the collegiate career of the patient ended abruptly following an injury sustained while at bat. The patient attempted to bat again but encountered significant difficulty due to the increasing pain in his hand. Consequently, the athletic trainer was called out for an on-field examination. The patient presented with no edema or ecchymosis but severe pain in the hypothenar eminence. This patient also presented with decreased grip strength with …

This paper argues that the Supreme Court’s decision in TikTok Inc.v. Garland overlooked a critical opportunity to develop a robust First Amendment framework for evaluating national security threats in the context of modern digital speech. Although the Court upheld the TikTok bill under intermediate scrutiny and framed the legislation as a content-neutral regulation of foreign corporate ownership, it failed to meaningfully engage with the more profound and more complex national security concerns raised by continued foreign control over a central expressive platform. Accurate crowd counting remains a major challenge in computer vision due to perspective distortion, background clutter, occlusion, and poor illumination, which degrade feature representation and limit model generalization. This study introduces a robust and well-structured approach that integrates hybrid attention mechanisms with curriculum learning to enhance accuracy and stability in complex crowd scenarios. Gamma correction and CLAHE preprocessing enhance image visibility, facilitating the reliable detection of small and distant individuals under challenging lighting conditions.
