As states look for ways to increase revenue, many are making attempts to increase the availability of legalized sport wagering. Extending previous work designed to further our understanding of how such actions could potentially impact sport fandom, the current study examined the impact of prior participation in fantasy sports, a pastime sharing much in common with sport gambling. The findings revealed that level of participation in fantasy sports were related to expectations of increased sport wagering, should such opportunities become more available. However, fantasy sport participation was not related to expected changes in sport interest or consumption.

It is not uncommon to see tears shed by players on both the winning and losing teams, particularly after a championship game. However, sport is also seen as an environment where competitors go to “put their game faces on” and keep their emotions in check, such as during the film A League of Their Own, when a manager tells a sobbing player that “there is no crying in baseball!” The current study sought to examine the extent to which individuals agree with this perspective. Specifically, participants rated the acceptability of crying by males and females in both sport and non-sport …

Q&A: Christian, Committed, And Called: An Interview, Linda Gray
Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for Christians in Higher Education
After teaching in a Christian University for more than 40 years, three professors who are retiring and have received emeritus status reflect on how students have changed over the decades and how they—as professors—have had to adapt to meet the needs of an ever-changing student body. The three professors were asked four questions: (1) how have students changed during the last four decades, (2) how have the professors adapted to meet the changing needs of students, (3) what was one unexpected thing each professor learned once they started teaching, (4) what advice do the professors have for those still teaching …
Transitions In Collegiate Church Music Pedagogy: Developing A Pedagogy For Undergraduate Modern Worship Curriculum, Christopher Andrew Brown
Transitions In Collegiate Church Music Pedagogy: Developing A Pedagogy For Undergraduate Modern Worship Curriculum, Christopher Andrew Brown
Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for Christians in Higher Education
Church music pedagogy has a rich history dating back to the 9th century and is rooted in scripture and ancient traditions. Changes over the centuries have been gradual with incremental transitions; however, since the introduction of pop and rock musical stylings to church settings almost sixty years ago, changes have been swift and dramatic. The advent of modern worship has left Christian higher learning institutions scrambling to find a place where the curriculum would be useful and relevant to the modern 21st century Church. This paper seeks to examine the historical background of Christian church music pedagogy while …
Developing Critical Consciousness In Students For Cultural Transformation, Carolyn F. Stubbs, Hallett Hullinger
Developing Critical Consciousness In Students For Cultural Transformation, Carolyn F. Stubbs, Hallett Hullinger
Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for Christians in Higher Education
In this paper, we address the need for developing critical consciousness in students in institutions of learning. Grounded in Freire’s thoughts on critical pedagogy and drawing from studies and research on critical consciousness, we contend that developing students who transform culture must involve raising their level of critical awareness and increasing social engagement and critical action. This paper examines the literature on critical consciousness development and draws attention to factors that are necessary for developing critical consciousness in students. Special attention is given to creating a curriculum and school culture that result in students who are critically aware and engaged …

Evaluating The Potential Of Genotype And Feeding Strategy On Reducing Age At Slaughter In Dairy Beef Systems, Jamie O'Driscoll
Evaluating The Potential Of Genotype And Feeding Strategy On Reducing Age At Slaughter In Dairy Beef Systems, Jamie O'Driscoll
ORBioM (Open Research BioSciences Meeting)
Background
Agriculture is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in Ireland with enteric fermentation from ruminants accounting for 58% of Ireland’s methane emissions. Research has shown that beef cattle excrete on average, approximately 230g of methane per day, if the national slaughter age reduced by one month, methane output would reduce by over 12,000 tonnes of methane annually. Therefore, a reduction in age at slaughter will lessen the contribution of Irish agriculture to global emissions and enhance its social acceptance and competitiveness.
Aims
The objective of this study is to investigate the potential of reducing age at slaughter through …
Farming For The Future; Managing Lowland Grassland For Biodiversity, Sally Griffin
Farming For The Future; Managing Lowland Grassland For Biodiversity, Sally Griffin
ORBioM (Open Research BioSciences Meeting)
Grassland is Ireland’s most expansive terrestrial habitat type covering >58% of the land cover but its biodiversity is under serious threat of agricultural intensification or land abandonment. While the decline in Irish grassland biodiversity has been recognised, there is a paucity of research into the restoration of lowland mesotrophic grassland. Most of Ireland’s grasslands are privately farmed mainly for pasture, therefore, appropriate agricultural management techniques for biodiversity restoration are vital. The purpose of this research was to first classify the lowland grassland vegetation in Killarney National Park, Co. Kerry in the west of Ireland (Approx. 244ha). Then to investigate selected …

Re-Assessing The Importance Of Linear Type Traits In Predicting Genetic Merit For Survival In An Aging Holstein-Friesian Dairy Cow Population., Maeve Williams
Re-Assessing The Importance Of Linear Type Traits In Predicting Genetic Merit For Survival In An Aging Holstein-Friesian Dairy Cow Population., Maeve Williams
ORBioM (Open Research BioSciences Meeting)
Background
Linear type traits were originally scored as a means of predicting functionality manifesting itself as greater cow longevity. Existing studies relating linear type traits to dairy cow longevity were generally restricted to young cows. Improved reproductive performance, however, is contributing to an aging cow population. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate if the genetic correlations between linear type traits and survival in each parity changes as cows age.
Methods
After edits, 152,894 lactation survival records (1st to 9th parity) were available from 52,447 Holstein-Friesian dairy cows, along with linear type trait records from 52,121 Holstein-Friesian dairy …
