Immunosuppressive elements within the tumor microenvironment, such as tumor-associated macrophages (TAM), can present a barrier to successful anti-tumor responses by cytolytic T cells. Here we employed preclinical syngeneic p53 null mouse models of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) to develop a treatment regimen that harnessed the immunostimulatory effects of low-dose cyclophosphamide coupled with the pharmacologic inhibition of TAMs using either a small molecule CSF1R inhibitor or an anti-CSF1R antibody. This therapeutic combination was effective in treating several highly aggressive TNBC murine mammary tumor and lung metastasis models. Single cell RNA sequencing characterized tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) including helper T cells and antigen-presenting …

Working Paper No. 55, An Inquiry Into The Assumptions And Tenets Of Neoclassical Economics That Lead Towards Income Inequality, Katharine Nester

Working Papers in Economics

This inquiry seeks to establish that key assumptions foundational to Neoclassical Economics contribute towards income inequality. A consideration of the Neoclassical interpretation and assumptions of the laissez-faire approach to market economies opens the inquiry. I examine the economic outcomes that result when the assumptions underpinning the Neoclassical application of laissez-faire are false, as they often are in the real world. The inquiry then turns to the theories and natural “laws” as advanced by Vilfredo Pareto (1848-1923) and John Bates (J. B.) Clark (1847-1938), which were built upon the Neoclassical adaptation of laissez-faire and became canon in the Neoclassical school. Finally, …

However, there are places in which the two sides are explained in this research, in which: some of its rulings arise from the composition; and the ‘lam’ of name …

Religion had an important role in the countries of the Nile Valley. There was no force controlling the life as religion did; they used religion to explain the phenomena surrounding them. Man's life is not affected by religion only, but it was mixed with the nature which was the first preacher of religion. Man interpreted the natural phenomena that he was unable to understand as belonging to supernatural powers far from the scope of his thinking; he feared from those phenomena which called him to respect them and offer the sacrifices. From here the religion arose.

Rumi And Sadi's Contribution To The Promotion Of The Humanistic ‎Culture, Ahmad Gholi

Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences

With its sweetness and bitterness, with its fantasy and reality, literature is the soul of human culture. It graces civilizations with beauty, morality, and the love of humanity. It seeks to prompt human culture to march towards excellence and elegance and maintain distance from vileness and wickedness. With its stress on diversity, it strives to curb violence and arrogance. Its ideal lies in bestowing love, peace, and integrity upon the chaotic and materialistic existence to deliver it from meaninglessness and vulgarity. Thus, this article invokes Mathew Arnold's idea of culture to bring into light the contribution of two classical Persian …

Disability Culture In Jim Ferris’S Hospital Poems, Anan Alkass Yousif Jun 2022

Disability Culture In Jim Ferris’S Hospital Poems, Anan Alkass Yousif

Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences

The advent of disability or crip poetry in the last decades of the twentieth century has become a crucial literary trend in contemporary American literature equally profound and socially influential as protest poetry against ethnic, racial, class, or gender discrimination. Within a culture that is dominated by identity politics, categorizing diverse communities based on their ethnicity, color, gender, or religious affiliation, disabled poets found in poetry a powerful instrument to express their bitter experiences and the suffering of their disabled bodies. Challenging the confinement of marginalization, contemporary American poets such as Larry Eigner (1927–1996), Vassar Miller (1924-1998), Laura Ann Hershey …

The tissue-specific drivers of neurosarcoidosis remain poorly defined. To identify cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specific, antigen-driven T and B cell responses, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing of CSF and blood cells from neurosarcoid participants coupled to T and B cell receptor sequencing. In contrast to pulmonary sarcoidosis, which is driven by CD4 T cells, we found CD8 T cell clonal expansion enriched in the neurosarcoid CSF. These CSF-enriched CD8 T cells were composed of two subsets with differential expression of EBI2, CXCR3, and CXCR4. Lastly, our data suggest that IFNγ signaling may distinguish neurosarcoidosis from other neurological disorders.

Bone metastases are frequent complications of malignant melanoma leading to reduced quality of life and significant morbidity. Regulation of immune cells by the gut microbiome influences cancer progression, but the role of the microbiome in tumor growth in bone is unknown. Using intracardiac or intratibial injections of B16-F10 melanoma cells into mice, we showed that gut microbiome depletion by broad-spectrum antibiotics accelerated intraosseous tumor growth and osteolysis. Microbiome depletion blunted melanoma-induced expansion of intestinal NK cells and Th1 cells and their migration from the gut to tumor-bearing bones. Demonstrating the functional relevance of immune cell trafficking from the gut to …
