Collective And Creative Learning To Enhance Interlibrary Loan, Lars Leon, Carol A. Kochan Aug 2022

Collective And Creative Learning To Enhance Interlibrary Loan, Lars Leon, Carol A. Kochan

Library Faculty & Staff Publications

The resource sharing community has a proud history of sharing knowledge through conferences, workshops, and online resources in support of training and development. People have enjoyed these opportunities and received various levels of benefit depending on access and whether instruction aligns with the methods they learn best. However, it is clear there aren't enough collective actions to meet the needs. We hosted a series of focus groups on training and development to find out from participants what has worked for them, what is still needed, how they learn best, and the types of training and information that will help them …

The Impact Of Delayed Surgical Care On Patient Outcomes With Alimentary Tract Perforation: Insight From A Low-Middle Income Country, Hasnain Zafar, Taha Ahmad Zaka-Ur-Rehman, Muhammad Sohaib Khan, Shayan Ahmed, Amir Hafeez Shariff Aug 2022

The Impact Of Delayed Surgical Care On Patient Outcomes With Alimentary Tract Perforation: Insight From A Low-Middle Income Country, Hasnain Zafar, Taha Ahmad Zaka-Ur-Rehman, Muhammad Sohaib Khan, Shayan Ahmed, Amir Hafeez Shariff

Section of General Surgery

Introduction: In-patient delay is associated with increased mortality in patients with alimentary tract perforations. Access to surgical care is a glaring health issue in low-middle income countries (LMICs), where patient presentation is also delayed for a myriad of reasons, which can be broadly categorized as social/cultural, financial, and structural in their nature. The impact these delays have on surgical outcomes in low-middle income countries is not known.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent emergency laparotomy for alimentary tract perforation from July 2015 to June 2018 was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Karachi, Pakistan. Time was …

Reviewing The External Factors That Influence Pv Output Performance In The Irish Climate, Chibuisi Chinasaokwu Okorieimoh, Brian Norton Prof, Michael Conlon Prof

Conference Papers

The literature review presented in this paper centres on the external factors that influence PV output performance in the Irish climate.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels show long-term performance degradation, resulting in lower like-per-like efficiencies and performance ratios. Manufacturers of solar photovoltaic modules typically guarantee a life span of more than 20 years. But to meet such guarantees, it is necessary to track and mitigate PV module degradation during this period, and identify maintenance and repair requirements beyond this period. Solar PV modules degrade over time, becoming less efficient, less reliable, and, eventually, inoperable.

External factors such as solar irradiance, dust …

Single-Cell Analysis Reveals Differences Among Inkt Cells Colonizing Peripheral Organs And Identifies Klf2 As A Key Gene For Inkt Emigration, Jie Wang, Ian Loveless, Indra Adrianto, Tingting Liu, Kalpana Subedi, Xiaojun Wu, Md Moazzem Hossain, Eric Sebzda, Li Zhou, Qing-Sheng Mi

Dermatology Articles

Invariant natural killer T cell (iNKT) subsets are differentially distributed in various immune organs. However, it remains unclear whether iNKT cells exhibit phenotypical and functional differences in different peripheral organs and how thymic iNKT cells emigrate to peripheral organs. Here, we used single-cell RNA-seq to map iNKT cells from peripheral organs. iNKT1 cells from liver, spleen, and lymph node appear to have distinct phenotypic profiles and functional capabilities. However, iNKT17 transcriptomes were comparable across peripheral organs. In addition, by integrating data with a thymic iNKT cell study, we uncovered a transient population of recent thymic emigrants, a cluster of peripheral …

The Development And Testing Of An Instrument To Measure Decision Making In Emergency Department Triage Nurses, Kelly J. Cone Aug 2022

The Development And Testing Of An Instrument To Measure Decision Making In Emergency Department Triage Nurses, Kelly J. Cone

Dissertations

An emergency department may be the initial entry site for health care for the critically ill client; the triage nurse is the frontline provider to prioritize care. Decision-making skills are important in the accurate direction of client care. To date, no published research was available about triage nurses' decision-making skills in the triage setting. The conceptual frameworks for this study were diagnostic reasoning and Benner's theory of novice to expert.

Planning Of Air Conditioner Cooling Load In The Dean Room Of The Faculty Of Engineering And Information Technology University Of Pgri Semarang, Slamet Supriyadi, Irna Farikhah, Suhartono Suhartono Aug 2022

Planning Of Air Conditioner Cooling Load In The Dean Room Of The Faculty Of Engineering And Information Technology University Of Pgri Semarang, Slamet Supriyadi, Irna Farikhah, Suhartono Suhartono

Journal of Materials Exploration and Findings

The specification of the cooling load or chiller in the FTI UPGRIS dean's room currently requires a review of the distribution of cooling air in the room due to the number of electronics and occupants in the room and the size of the air conditioner. Therefore, the room must be taken into account to prevent insufficient cooling load, As a result, it is impossible to reach the desired temperature and humidity set. The FTI Dean's room has an air conditioner with a cooling capacity of 1 unit. It should be able to cover the amount of cooling in the room. …

Afterword: Latcrit At Twenty-Five And Beyond – Organized Academic Activism And The Long Haul: Designing “Hybridized” Advocacy Projects For An Age Of Global Disruption, Systemic Injustice, And Bottom-Up Progress, Francisco Valdes, Steven Bender, Jennifer J. Hill Aug 2022

Hill

Denver Law Review

On the monumental occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary celebration of LatCrit (Latina and Latino Critical Legal Theory, Inc.) as a still thriving and persevering community of critical scholars and activists, this Article offers some reflections on where we have been, where we are now, and where we might go next together as academics and organizers of long-term collective action. Against the current disruptions of a global pandemic, aggravated by planetary climate collapse, disinformation campaigns, and the organized top-down sabotage of U.S. democracy itself, our community responses going forward must be both more democratic and decentralized than ever, as well as …

White Vigilantism And The Racism Of Race-Neutrality, Christian Powell Sundquist Aug 2022

White Vigilantism And The Racism Of Race-Neutrality, Christian Powell Sundquist

Denver Law Review

Race-neutrality has long been touted in American law as central to promoting racial equality while guarding against race-based ddiscrimination. And yet the legal doctrine of race-neutrality has perversely operated to shield claims of racial discrimination from judicial review while protecting discriminators from liability and punishment. This Article critiques the doctrine of race-neutrality by examining the law’s response to white vigilantism in the much-publicized criminal trials of Kyle Rittenhouse and that of Ahmaud Arbery’s assailants.

Yoga As Property: A Century Of United States Yoga Copyrights, 1937–2021, Roopa Bala Singh Aug 2022

Yoga As Property: A Century Of United States Yoga Copyrights, 1937–2021, Roopa Bala Singh

Denver Law Review

Public debate on yoga as property fixates on whether yoga should be owned, asking if yoga can be Indian property. Framed as such, the public discourse obscures a century-long, ravenous arc of yoga ownership in the United States, accumulated by whiteness, beginning in the early twentieth century. What do the stories of yoga in American law tell us and hide about property and intellectual property? In this critical intellectual property (IP) study, I present the first map of U.S. yoga copyrights grounded in quantitative data. The map reflects that yoga has been exponentially “propertized” by U.S. copyright law. My evidentiary …

The Black-White Paradigm’S Continuing Erasure Of Latinas: See Women Law Deans Of Color, Laura M. Padilla Aug 2022

The Black-White Paradigm’S Continuing Erasure Of Latinas: See Women Law Deans Of Color, Laura M. Padilla

Denver Law Review

The Black-white paradigm persists with unintended consequences. For example, there have been only six Latina law deans to date with only four presently serving. This Article provides data about women law deans of color, the dearth of Latina law deans, and explanations for the data. It focuses on the enduring Black-white paradigm, as well as other external and internal forces. This Article suggests how to increase the number of Latina law deans and emphasizes why it matters.

Artificial Intelligence Subordination: Consequence Of The Failure To Govern, Emile Loza De Siles Aug 2022

Artificial Intelligence Subordination: Consequence Of The Failure To Govern, Emile Loza De Siles

Denver Law Review

This Article considers the impacts of the ongoing failure to govern artificial intelligence (AI) systems and uses for which humans are the computational and decisional subjects. Ungoverned AI systems and uses can have profound, devastating impacts upon those humans, their families and communities, and society at large. Because the law in its current state is grossly inadequate for the Algorithmic Age, these AI systems and uses threaten a digital form of AI-mediated involuntary servitude and subordination. This Article proceeds in three Parts. First, it discusses the scope of involuntary servitude and other forms of enslavement as they have evolved from …

Foreword: Mapping Critical Geographies In Virtual Space, Shelley Cavalieri, Saru M. Matambanadzo, Lua Kamal Yuille

Denver Law Review

In this Foreword to the LatCrit Symposium, the authors introduce the work of the 2021 LatCrit Biennial Meeting. They frame the movement as one of critical and liberatory theorizing in a time of retrenchment of opposition to the antisubordination project, highlighting the many strands of Critical Legal Studies that find home in the big tent of the LatCrit community. They introduce and contextualize within the broader critical theory literature four Articles written by members of the LatCrit community. Finally, they assert their own challenge to the movement, calling on critical legal scholars to question more seriously the meritocratic and productivist …

Space-Time Block-Encoded 16-Apsk In Aeronautical Mobile Telemetry, Autumn Twitchell Aug 2022

Space-Time Block-Encoded 16-Apsk In Aeronautical Mobile Telemetry, Autumn Twitchell

Theses and Dissertations

The two-antenna problem in aeronautical mobile telemetry is created by the reception of two copies of the same RF waveform with different phases and time delays. Alamouti and Alamouti-like space time block codes can solve the two-antenna problem, but the decoder/detector needs to account for the different time delays between the signals received from the two transmit antennas. In this thesis, a comparison is made between the performance of Alamouti space-time block codes and time-reversed space-time block codes with 16-APSK to solve the two-antenna problem. The maximum likelihood decoder/detector for Alamouti-encoded 16-APSK is a sequence detector operating on a trellis …

Developing Ultra-High Resolution 3d Printing For Microfluidics, Kent Richard Hooper Aug 2022

Developing Ultra-High Resolution 3d Printing For Microfluidics, Kent Richard Hooper

Theses and Dissertations

Building upon previous research on Digital Light Projection (DLP) 3D printing for microfluidics, in this thesis I performed the detailed design and fabrication of a novel DLP 3D printer to increase resolution and device footprint flexibility. This new printer has a pixel resolution twice that of our group’s previous printers (3.8 μm vs 7.6 μm). I demonstrated a new state of the art for minimum channel width, reducing the minimum width to 15 μm wide (and 30 μm tall). This is an improvement over the previous smallest width of 20 μm. This printer also has the capacity to perform multiple …

Investigations Into Pressure Profile And Pressure Control In Wrist-Worn Health Monitoring Devices, Roger Mcallister Black Aug 2022

Investigations Into Pressure Profile And Pressure Control In Wrist-Worn Health Monitoring Devices, Roger Mcallister Black

Theses and Dissertations

To aid in the design of future wearable health devices (WHDs), contact pressure between the distal forearm (wrist) and two different wrist-worn devices was investigated in this work. The first device included eight force sensors arranged in series along the length of a wristband to measure the pressure profile. The band also included a tensioner device for manually tightening the band while on a wrist. Testing was done on dummy wrists and the results were statistically significant supporting the hypothesis that areas of the wrist with lower radius of curvature will experience higher contact pressures generally and a faster rate …

Increasing Access To Early College Programs At The Beginning Of High School, Jennifer Schmotzer Aug 2022

Increasing Access To Early College Programs At The Beginning Of High School, Jennifer Schmotzer

Masters Projects

Early College Programs (ECP) seek to increase the college pipeline for traditionally underrepresented students in a postsecondary environment: first-generation college students, minorities, and low-income families. While these programs have seen significant success and grown rapidly across the United States, some students are still not accessing an ECP due to real or perceived barriers. Some of these barriers include stereotype threat, academic resiliency, knowledge about higher education, academic achievement, and navigating the transition from a K12 environment to a postsecondary environment. This proposed project seeks to design a coaching curriculum similar to the success of a summer bridge program (Duncheon, 2020) …
