Journal of Curriculum, Teaching, Learning and Leadership in Education

The Science of Reading (SoR) has become central to literacy research and practice, yet many early childhood classrooms struggle to integrate its principles in developmentally appropriate ways. Recent advances in cognitive science, culturally relevant pedagogy, and digital literacy highlight the need for instructional approaches that bridge research and practice. This manuscript examines how the five core components of reading—phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency—can be meaningfully implemented in early childhood education through structured literacy practices that remain play-based and culturally sustaining. Abstract Many kindergarten students continue to enter school below literacy readiness benchmarks, notably lacking Concepts of Print skills despite decades of research affirming their role as predictors of later reading achievement (Economic Policy Institute, 2015; Justice & Ezell, 2001; Justice & Sofka, 2010; National Survey of Children’s Health, 2022). Concepts of Print provide the foundation for children’s understanding of how print works, laying the groundwork for decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension (Lentsch, 2018; Moats, 2023a; National Research Council, 2000). A Snapshot Of Three High School, Female Students' Writing Knowledge, Apryl L. Poch

Journal of Curriculum, Teaching, Learning and Leadership in Education

This study explored the writing knowledge of three typically developing strong high school female writers. Students completed one semi-structured, individual interview. Interview questions were adopted from Lin et al. (2007) and Saddler and Graham (2007). Results indicated that students possess relatively mature conceptions of writing, focusing more on the collective expression of writing. However, students did struggle with understanding the meaning of expository writing. Further consideration of students’ writing knowledge may allow teachers to better scaffold and develop the ways in which they teach writing across the high school grades, and to advance students’ content acquisition.

National literacy reforms aim to improve students’ basic reading skills, yet adolescent readers and teachers have not been adequately included in the conversation. The purpose of this study was to explore perceptions of foundational reading skills at the secondary level among high school literacy practitioners. The study used a case study method to learn participant understanding of foundational skills and contextual factors surrounding their ability to teach them. Findings revealed how participants recognized the need for foundational reading skill development in their high school students. Student Choice And Strategy: Reviving Reading In The Language Arts Lab, Elin Petersen, Phu Vu

This action research study examined how student-centered reading strategies influenced engagement, motivation, and comprehension among high school students enrolled in a Language Arts Lab course. Over six weeks, eleven students participated in a collaboratively selected novel study supported by Readers’ Theater, teacher read-alouds with think-alouds, vocabulary activities, reading logs, and opportunities to analyze their own performance data. Data sources included standardized reading assessments, biweekly comprehension quizzes, student surveys, reading logs, informal interviews, and classroom observations. Classroom quizzes showed clear improvement over the course of the unit, while students’ survey responses and reflections indicated more frequent use of strategies such as …

This article explores the use of paired queer literature as a tool for fostering critical literacy and intersectional understanding in K–12 educational settings. Grounded in the belief that literature should serve as both a mirror and a window for students (Bishop, 1990), the paper argues for the inclusion of LGBTQ+ narratives to challenge dominant heteronormative frameworks that pervade U.S. school culture. By pairing texts that reflect diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and intersecting social identities, educators can cultivate inclusive classrooms that affirm all students’ experiences. This study contributes to the literacy scholarship by exploring the motivations for literacy learning of adult women in Northern Uganda, connecting to current trends in language and literacy studies and education in post-conflict contexts that center the peacebuilding potential of language, literacy, and women. To understand women’s motivations and the ways peace is languaged through their narrative, we adopt a chronotropic lens to the analysis of the embodied discourse. Accurate long-term forecasting of cumulative oil production (Np) is critical for effective reservoir management, reserve estimation, and field development planning. However, existing decline curve analysis (DCA) techniques have limited extrapolation capability, while data-driven artificial intelligence (AI) models tend to produce physically unreasonable cumulative production profiles when extrapolated beyond the data range. Specifically, conventional AI-based forecasting models may display unreasonable long-term forecasting characteristics because of their inability to leverage basic knowledge of reservoir physics. Applying Means–End Chain Theory To Online Buying And Understanding Consumers' Motivation To Disclose Private Information, Brikena Berisha, Maja Konečnik Ruzzier

Economic and Business Review

The purpose of this study is to define and understand the motives that influence consumers’ decisions to disclose personal data online. Using means–end chain theory as the main theoretical framework, 10 in-depth interviews conducted through soft laddering revealed how both utilitarian and hedonic motivations jointly shape disclosure behavior. The findings show that these motivations interact, demonstrating that data disclosure is driven not only by functional considerations but also by emotional and experiential factors embedded in consumers’ value systems. The study concludes that motivation plays a central and multifaceted role in online data disclosure decisions.

This study examines the relationship between bank-specific environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and credit risk in the European Union (EU), focusing on differences between euro area (EA) and non-EA banks, as well as developed versus emerging EU markets. Using panel data for 87 EU banks from 2014–2023 and static fixed-effects models, credit risk is measured via ratios of nonperforming loans to loans, assets, and equity, while ESG is assessed using both ESG and ESG combined scores. This study explores how institutional logics are enacted and recalibrated within corporate governance amid legitimacy challenges and organisational change. Set in Slovenia’s posttransition banking sector, it combines a symbolic–material ontology of institutions with a dual distinction between identity-based logics, grounded in values and organisational purpose, and activity-based logics, rooted in operational practice and performance. Drawing on elite–expert interviews and governance artefacts, the analysis traces how these logics interact across three phases of governance transformation—state stewardship, privatisation, and postprivatisation resilience. Manufacturing costs for System-on-Chip (SoC) devices increase as silicon process nodes advance. Using a single high-end SoC for both premium and entry-level product tiers often results in unused features and reduced margins for lower-tier devices. Conversely, designing separate SoCs for each tier may require multiple expensive tape-outs. This disclosure describes a method for creating multiple product variants from a single base silicon wafer using metal layer customization.
