Investigating The Use Of 100% Rap In Airfield Mixtures For Contingency Pavement Repair In Remote Regions, Mahmoud Samara
Investigating The Use Of 100% Rap In Airfield Mixtures For Contingency Pavement Repair In Remote Regions, Mahmoud Samara
Theses and Dissertations
The goal of this study was to present a procedure for performance-related mix design of 100% recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) mixtures used in repair applications. In addition, the impact of rejuvenators (Corn Oil, Tall Oil, Modified Vegetable Oil, and Aromatic Extract) on the RAP materials' properties were also investigated on both levels (binder, and mixtures). Performance grade testing, frequency sweep test, critical temperature differential (delta Tc), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) tests were conducted to evaluate the rheological and chemical properties of extracted and rejuvenated RAP binders. Afterward, asphalt pavement analyzer (APA) and indirect tensile asphalt cracking (IDEAL-CT) tests …

Narratives Of Transnational Placemaking: Exploring Migrant Workers’ Hidden Histories Through Memory-Guided City Walks: A Migrant Woman’S Narrative, Monika Palmberger
Narrative Culture
Austria’s so-called guest workers (temporary labor migrants), who immigrated from the former Yugoslavia and Turkey in the 1960s and 1970s, have shaped Vienna for more than half a century, but their histories and present social realities remain politically and socially marginalized. This article uncovers these histories and pays attention to the narrativization of space and its performative dimension—as they emerged in narrative interviews and memory-guided city walks—on the basis of one selected case. It analyzes the intertwining of narratives and places in two ways: how narratives constitute and preserve places, but also how places shape and reinforce narratives about the …

Portland State And The Downtown Portland Plan - 50 Years Later With Ethan Seltzer, Ethan Seltzer
PDXPLORES Podcast
Fifty years ago, the City of Portland developed a plan for the downtown corridor with a radical vision of what a central city could be. The downtown we know today is the result of that plan. In this episode of PDXPLORES, Professor Emeritus Ethan Seltzer discusses the 1972 downtown plan and how Portland State evolved into an urban-serving university alongside the downtown corridor.

Purpose – dding dopants to a powder bed could be a cost-effective method for spatially varying the material properties in laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) or for evaluating new materials and processing relationships. However, these additions may impact the selection of processing parameters. Furthermore, these impacts may be different when depositing nanoparticles into the powder bed than when the same composition is incorporated into the powder particles as by ball milling of powders or mixing similarly sized powders. This study aims to measure the changes in the single bead characteristics with laser power, laser scan speed, laser spot size and …

Effect Of Change In Nursing Skill Mix On Patient And Organizational Outcomes In One Teaching Hospital, Sharon A. Eck Birmingham
Effect Of Change In Nursing Skill Mix On Patient And Organizational Outcomes In One Teaching Hospital, Sharon A. Eck Birmingham
Dissertations
This study examined the effect of a change in nursing skill mix, RN hours, and total caregiver hours on patient satisfaction, adverse occurrences, mortality, length of stay, and cost on 19 nursing units (N = 46, 664 patients) in one 810-bed teaching hospital that reduced nursing skill mix as part of a hospital redesign initiative. A quasi-experimental time series design used existing hospital data from January, 1994 to November, 1997. Data were examined across five time series points in three-month continuous intervals from six months prior to two years after the skill mix change.

Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) harbor rich assemblages of malaria parasites, including three species closely related to P. falciparum (sub-genus Laverania), the most malignant human malaria parasite. Here, we characterize the ecology and epidemiology of malaria infection in wild chimpanzee reservoirs. We used molecular assays to screen chimpanzee fecal samples, collected longitudinally and cross-sectionally from wild populations, for malaria parasite mitochondrial DNA. We found that chimpanzee malaria parasitism has an early age of onset and varies seasonally in prevalence. A subset of samples revealed Hepatocystis mitochondrial DNA, with phylogenetic analyses suggesting that Hepatocystis appears to cross species barriers more easily than Laverania. …

Collegiate Recovery Programs Serving As An Opportunity For Student Affairs, Marium Waqar
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to investigate the current Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) at Rowan University and the effects it had on the recovery student population. The study was designed to ask questions that would yield results about the effectiveness of the current CRP on Rowan's campus. Previous research indicates a need for more awareness about CRPs, and professionals in higher education need to be knowledgeable about students in recovery and their invisible disability. Findings suggest some Rowan students in recovery do not feel supported on campus, but many of them are not even aware of the resources that …

The Role Of The Individual Will In The Civil And Commercial Procedures Law As A New Source Of The Procedural Law: An Original And Analytical Study In The Omani Civil And Commercial Procedures Law, Ali Abouattia Heikal
Sultan Qaboos University Legal Studies Journal
This study sought to identify the role of individual will in procedural law. Therefore, it employed the descriptive approach of analyzing legal texts in which the procedural law related the application of its rules to the will of the opponents and attempted to root these texts. The paper discussed the topic in two sections; the role of the individual will in the Civil Transactions Law and the Procedural Law. The study concluded that individuals will is considered another source of the commercial and civil procedures law. To illustrate, some rules in the procedural law cannot operate to their full potential …
Sources Of Solidarity In Guarantee According To Omani Law: A Comparative Study, Mohamed Ibrahim Bendari
Sources Of Solidarity In Guarantee According To Omani Law: A Comparative Study, Mohamed Ibrahim Bendari
Sultan Qaboos University Legal Studies Journal
A solidarity guarantee is a type of guarantee in which the guarantor loses the reserve status of the debtor's commitment while their obligations remain subsidiary to the debtor, and as a result, it is not permissible for the guarantors to pay in installments, stripping, or claim them before claiming the debtor; it is, therefore, harsher than a simple guarantee. The solidarity guarantee is historically earlier than the simple guarantee because Roman law defined it in its early ages. It is also widely known in Islamic jurisprudence. Although the general rule is that solidarity is not supposed to be in guarantees, …
Unlawful Act Having A Continuing Character In The Context Of State Responsibility, Abdullah Elhabeeb Elmahjoub
Unlawful Act Having A Continuing Character In The Context Of State Responsibility, Abdullah Elhabeeb Elmahjoub
Sultan Qaboos University Legal Studies Journal
Objective State responsibility is based on two legal aspects; first, committing an internationally unlawful act by a state contrary to an international obligation; and second, the unlawful act is attributable to the State concerned. Specific and concrete damages are not required for the allocation of international responsibility to a State. Given these elements, the present article entitled “Unlawful act having a continuing character in the context of State responsibility” deals with the legal issues concerning the question of a breach of an international obligation that is in a state of continuity since it began from the first place without coming …

Waqf In Malaysia:The Development Of Legal And Institutional Framework, Fares Djafri, Mohamad Akram Laldin, Sharifah Zubaidah Syed Abdul Kader
Sultan Qaboos University Legal Studies Journal
Awqaf properties in Malaysia have evolved over the years from being in the nature of consumptive immoveable properties used for religious purposes like madrasahs and mosques into productive and mixed-use type real estate properties like hotels, office buildings and commercial type properties. The regulatory and legal frameworks have played a vital role in the evolution of waqf sector and its management through the State of Islamic Religious Councils (SIRCs), the Department of Waqf and Hajj (JAWHAR) and Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia (YWM). In fact, waqf in Malaysia operates under three separate laws, namely: Islamic Law, Federal Territory Act or State Enactments …
